How can i change the the innerhtml from another iframe?

I'm using an i-frame to grab a server-side text file and display its content
elsewhere in the html document. On change of the i-frame source, I want to
access its innerHTML.
The i-frame source changes just fine and even displays the source; the glitch
is in accessing the innerHTML for that new i-frame src file. It requires *TWO*
clicks of the onClick element to get the correct innerHTML (with just one
click, the source will change, and display the new file in the html document;
however, the innerHTML is still that of the old source file for the i-frame).
This does not appear to be a loading problem with the new src file into the
i-frame. (ie: setTimeout on a function to get the innerHTML after the src file
loads does not work).
So the question is: how can I get the i-frame source to change AND access the
new src file's innerHTML with one click?? Code:
I am nOOb to Javascript and wanted to extract HTML from another website. I tried this by using an iframe that opened up the desired webpage and called a script to read the innerhtml of the frame using the onLoad event.
It fails however with a Permission Denied error when trying to extract the html via the script (see code below).
Not sure if I am doing something worng, or if this is just not allowed on ClientSide scripting (I can appreciate writing isn't) but not being able to read.
Anyway, assuming this can't be done in this manner, is there another way in which it might short of using server side scripting?

I have a page, with 3 IFRAMEs on it. From one of these IFRAMES, i am trying to append to the content of another IFRAME.
This doesnt work:
top.frames[0].document.getElementByID('chat').innerHTML+= "new content"
any thoughts?
I know I'm referring to the right frame, because
top.frames[0].document.location.href = "someotherpage.html"

I created a page that has an iframe on it. Within this iframe I call an asp page. The asp page is supposed to do some work and then update the innerHTML of a <div> object on the parent page to indicate that processing of the page in the iframe is complete. The code works in IE but not FireFox. I am wondering what is the best way to make the script work for both browsers?

This will read the contents of an iframe, and write it to a textarea.
iframe is editable, and content is entered by the user. Still, this works.
But, below code is not working. Trying to put some content to an iframe, with the same innerHTML method above. It returns no errors or warnings. Even last alert() displays "<div>lorem ipsum</div>", but iframe is empty, it displays nothing..

I used one of their already made sites as the basis for mine which has some divs named maincontent and sidebar. I have a nav bar at the top with buttons I made. I want the buttons (when clicked) to change the contents of my maincontent div and sidebar div.

I just want the contents of the div to be overwritten. I tried using innerHTML=resultDocument but that just results in a message that says "[object DocumentFragment]".

Getting to the poiint; I have a 'index.html' document that creates 3 iframes, each within a row of a 1 column, 3 row table. So I have a top (frame1), middle,(frame2) and bottom(frame3). Frame1 src="header.html" is a descriptive banner. Frame2 src="Start.html" is where the real application does all the work. Frame3 src="footer.html" is a footer, that may contain 1 or more images or small buttons.

What I can't seem to do is have "start.html" change the content or src of frame1, recall start.html is the src of frame2. When a button within a form within start.html is pressed (onclick), a cgi (c program) outputs new html into frame2, a mainmenu of buttons. Now frame2 contains a list of buttons, and I want frame1 to contain text "Main Menu". Likewise, in the mainmenu, when the settings button is pressed a cgi program will output the settings HTML to frame2, and I want frame1 to contain the text "Settings".
Sure, the cgi program could change/re-write the contents of "header.html", but whats the best method, and then, how to reload the iframe, or change it's src.

And it features a lot of handy little web gadgets and apps for users. I was interested in creating a page, where two iframes are shown side-by-side both with the width of 50% and the height of 100%, with adressbars on top of each of them.
So, essentially, what I need is just a code that allows the user to edit the iframe's src and get it to a different site.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhat I am codeing is essentialy some digital signaage for my office. I will have a calender that updates through several screens with information in them. The basic page stays the same but the content is loaded into a large iframe in the center of the page and each html file loaded into the iframe is changed using meta tags. This is a touch screen so I want control along the bottom of the screen. I have did this very crudely with css and html. But I would like to refine it a little more with javascript.
I want javascript to control the content of the iframe and javascript to control the buttons along the bottom to manual switch to a diffferent screen along with a button that stops the auto reloading of the page. Here is where I am so far. I have the javascript to automatilly change the iframe src but I need help with the nav buttons and the stop button. Right now the nav buttons are still using the regular <a> tags targeting the iframe.
