Iframe Problem: Can Read Contents With InnerHTML, But Cannot Insert.
Oct 15, 2007
I can read the contents of an iframe:
HTML Code:
var iframe = document.getElementById("message");
var iframeContents = iframe.contentDocument.body.innerHTML;
var txtarea = document.getElementById('message2');
txtarea.value = iframeContents;
This will read the contents of an iframe, and write it to a textarea.
iframe is editable, and content is entered by the user. Still, this works.
But, below code is not working. Trying to put some content to an iframe, with the same innerHTML method above. It returns no errors or warnings. Even last alert() displays "<div>lorem ipsum</div>", but iframe is empty, it displays nothing..
HTML Code:
var textContent = "lorem ipsum";
var iframe2 = document.getElementById('message');
iframe2.contentDocument.body.innerHTML = '<div>'+textContent+'</div>'
alert(iframe.contentDocument.body.innerHTML);

I need to make a javascript that when I am at a page within a game I play and click the javascript, it will get the value of a table cell, separate them to x and y variables and then put the values into a link that opens. The open link is of a php script that uses $_GET for the values of the variables to query my database.I am terrible at javascript and have been trying to do this for 2 days now with no success.Here's the scripts so it is easier to understand:This is part of the html page that is from the game. I need to have the javascript get 432|608 and assign x=432 and y=608 in this case, although those number change, the place in the table that that they are displayed do not change.
<td>Coordinates:</td>
<td><a href="game.php?village=19392&s=map&x=432&y=608">432|608</a></td>

I have a form that I am using .innerHTML to view the contents of one div in another div. When the user clicks the button, they should be able to view their template. However I am dragging a tree from an XML file and even though the code runs, I get undefined as an output.

Is there a way to resize an iframe dynamically so that you never get the scroll bar and essentially hide that there is an iframe? Better integration really.Basically I want to iframe a forum into my site so that the design down the sides and top which my friend does using iweb are not messed with.We have a central area which can be longer or shorter depending on the forum.

I'm using an i-frame to grab a server-side text file and display its content
elsewhere in the html document. On change of the i-frame source, I want to
access its innerHTML.
The i-frame source changes just fine and even displays the source; the glitch
is in accessing the innerHTML for that new i-frame src file. It requires *TWO*
clicks of the onClick element to get the correct innerHTML (with just one
click, the source will change, and display the new file in the html document;
however, the innerHTML is still that of the old source file for the i-frame).
This does not appear to be a loading problem with the new src file into the
i-frame. (ie: setTimeout on a function to get the innerHTML after the src file
loads does not work).
So the question is: how can I get the i-frame source to change AND access the
new src file's innerHTML with one click?? Code:

I am nOOb to Javascript and wanted to extract HTML from another website. I tried this by using an iframe that opened up the desired webpage and called a script to read the innerhtml of the frame using the onLoad event.
It fails however with a Permission Denied error when trying to extract the html via the script (see code below).
Not sure if I am doing something worng, or if this is just not allowed on ClientSide scripting (I can appreciate writing isn't) but not being able to read.
Anyway, assuming this can't be done in this manner, is there another way in which it might short of using server side scripting?
<SCRIPT language = "Javascript">
function readFile()
{
doc=window["myframe"].document.body.innerHTML;
//TBD...
}
</SCRIPT>

I have been trying to insert xml into an iframe. I can do it kinda. The problem is the iframe has <html></html> tags and if the xml has items that look like <head> tags like <title> etc they end up in the head. For example I have a atom file that looks like this:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<feed version="0.3" xmlns="http://purl.org/atom/ns#">
<title>Gmail - Inbox for bartonphillips@gmail.com</title>

I am needing to build a contact form in an iframe that will change the email address the content will go to depending on the id clicked from another page. So far I am using a switch statement to choose email address based on the id clicked.
var artist
function Artist_switch(selectName) {
switch(selectName.value) {
case "p_01":
artist = xxx@xxx.com
break
case "p_02":
artist = xxx@xxx.com
break
case "p_03":
artist = xxx@xxx.com
break
case "p_04":
artist = xxx@xxx.com
break
case "p_05":
artist = xxx@xxx.com
break
}
My contact field looks like this:
<label><img src="/photo_site/artist_name.png" alt="Artist name" height="30" class="bright"/><br/></label><input type="text" class="input" name="artist_name" size="30" disabled="disabled" value="artist"/><br/>
The button on the other page:
<img src="contact.png" name="p_01"/>
How to set this up more properly?

I have this javascript
Code:
function frameURL() {
var address = document.getElementById("address");
var iframe = document.getElementById("iframe");
var frame = iframe.src;
address.value = frame;
}
HTML Code:
<input type="text" size="100%" id="address" />
<iframe src="" id="iframe" width="100%" height="100%" scrolling="auto" onload="frameURL()" ></iframe>
Basically this is just like a web browser you type into the text input box and it changes the iframe src I have all that working but I want it so that when you click on a link in the frame the address box to automatically change to the new url. I thought the code above would do it but it doesn't.

I have a some information opened in an IFRAME.
What I want is to copy this information. How is this done?
What I have (and doesn't work) is:
print "<script>
function copyit(theField) {
var tempval=eval('document.'+theField)
therange=tempval.createTextRange()
therange.execCommand('Copy')

<body onLoad="copyit('it.TEST');">

<BR><BR>
<textarea name='TEST2' cols=40 rows=10>APPEL</textarea>
</form>
</body>
<html>";
Now, the IFRAME does show something, so it's not empty.
The javascript-error I get reads:

This doesnt work:
top.frames[0].document.getElementByID('chat').innerHTML+= "new content"

I know I'm referring to the right frame, because
top.frames[0].document.location.href = "someotherpage.html"

And I have the CGI take a guess at the size of the content when it generates it. Then I have a call to resizeIframe() with the guessed height in it. This seems to work, but I'm not confident that the guess at the new height is correct. So the other question is: how can I get the correct size of the content of the iframe so I can pass it to the parent function?
