Read GET Values In An IFRAME?
Jul 8, 2009
I have an IFRAME that I am working with to post values into a form from another website. What I need to do now is how to read the GET values that are contained in the URL of the refering page. I want to turn them into variables that get saved into my database so I can refer back to them later. Any ideas how I can do this?

I can read the contents of an iframe:
HTML Code:
var iframe = document.getElementById("message");
var iframeContents = iframe.contentDocument.body.innerHTML;
var txtarea = document.getElementById('message2');
txtarea.value = iframeContents;
This will read the contents of an iframe, and write it to a textarea.
iframe is editable, and content is entered by the user. Still, this works.
But, below code is not working. Trying to put some content to an iframe, with the same innerHTML method above. It returns no errors or warnings. Even last alert() displays "<div>lorem ipsum</div>", but iframe is empty, it displays nothing..
HTML Code:
var textContent = "lorem ipsum";
var iframe2 = document.getElementById('message');
iframe2.contentDocument.body.innerHTML = '<div>'+textContent+'</div>'
alert(iframe.contentDocument.body.innerHTML);

I have a list of images on the left side of the screen. On the right
side I have an iframe for the picture and some text to be displayed.
I can create individual pages for this, however I would rather create
dynamic pages for this. I would love to be able to have a link on the
left side that will send an image filename along with some text to the
iframe, so I don't have to create so many smaller files. Has anyone
done this?

I need to copy input (checkbox) values from a form inside my iframe to the form in my parent frame using javascript and I'm not sure how to modify my current code to accomplish this! I'm using cold fusion to display the values from a database inside the iframe. Once all the values are loaded into the iframe, I need to be able to select as many as necessary and then submit the form from the parent frame which then runs a report that utilizes those values, but I can't do that because my code is written so that the values load in the iframe form and the action to run the report that requires those values is executed from the form in my parent frame. Here are the code snipits:
Main "Parent" Frame Code
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<cfparam name="WordFlag" default="0">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

I'm thinking that loading the values into some sort of hidden comma delimited string structure in the parent frame would do the trick, if I'm on the right track, how would I go about doing that?

I have a parent page containing an iframe. The parent page has a menu in it which opens links in the iframe. I want to highlight different bits of the menu according to which page has loaded in the iframe.
So I would like to do something like this:
1. Use PHP to extract the file name (minus 'php' at the end, of the page loaded within the iframe (which I can do fine).
2. Use javascript onload so that the iframe sends this value (say 'pagename') to the parent page when it loads any page in the iframe.
3. The parent page, having received that variable into its header, will adjust a line of css to something like: .pagename {background-color:red;}
And so the menu link for pagename.php will be colored red
4. When pagename1.php is loaded into the iframe, that will send 'pagename1' to the parent page, change the CSS in the head, and therefore change the highlighted menu item from pagename to pagename1
Is this possible? And easy? There seems to be a lot of stuff online about moving variables from iframes, but mainly in the context of form entries from an iframe to a parent, eg here:
[URL]
parent.function_name(); seems to be needed along the way. But I am not sure how to proceed.

To sum up this issue, I have a parent page, which holds some values in hidden input fields passed to them from the url. On this page, I have an iframe with a form in it, to which I want to pass values from these hidden fields to be displayed for the user in the iframe form. In IE, it works. To accomplish this, im just simply doing a <body onload="GetInput()">. The GetInput function does the following, but for about 10 fields:
Fnamefield=document.getElementById('firstname').value = parent.document.getElementById('firstname').value; Thats it. Once the page loads, i see my values. In firefox it does not work. I know the hidden fields are getting their values, but thats as far as it makes it. I have tried calling the GetInput function after the form is written out and not in the body tag, which still works for IE, but not FF.

I put the following line in the onchange tag of a listbox to use the values to manipulate an iframe:
document.getElementById('viewer').src=('Location_Files/')+(this.value)+('.htm') There it works perfectly but I wanted to do more so I decided to build a function around it:
function display()
{
document.getElementById('viewer').src=('Location_Files/')+(this.value)+('.htm')
}
When I put the function in the onchange tag instead, the iframe tries to work but I get a "can't load page" message like the src is broken. Now when I first made that line it took me hours to figure out that I can't use a "" because if I do it fails. So I went with "/" and that works but I wonder if that rules change when I specify it in the java script instead of in the onchange tag itself. Either way it still breaks if I try to use "".

I run a online gaming website, and I'm having problems with certain websites iframing our games.
Actually I'm ok with iframing, as long as they include the banner ad located just beneath our games. But often times unscrupulous webmasters will iframe only the game, preventing us from generating any revenue from the banner ad (and costing us additional bandwidth charges).
I'm hoping to find a way to detect the dimensions of the iframe, so that I may dynamically resize the game, in order to include the banner ad within the iframe. Does anybody know how to extract the "height" and "width" attribute values from an <iframe> tag sitting on a different site?

I have a list of products where they have minimum quantities in a hidden input. Some products have multiple colours, though the same minimum quantity and I'm trying to implement a jQuery check that entries made are at least equal to the minimum.
Blank or '0' entries are fine but if it's below the minimum quantity it should set to the minimum.
HTML:
Is there something obviously wrong with this? It isn't performing the minimum check and I'm really not sure why.

In part of my form, I have 3 inputs (one textarea and two text inputs),I am validating their value format using AJAX (each input triggers error message on its label in case format is wrong). Also I have one button, "NOT submit button" (type = button).Now, when clicking on the button it must enter the value of those three inputs in my database in case they are true then all inputs values must be cleared. In case AJAX validation is wrong and in case the user clicked on that button, the value of fields must kept as it is.
Actually I can not use submit button because I have it for the whole form and what I am taking about is a part of the form and it's not possible to make nested forms as I know it violates html rules. It's easy to make it if I am taking about submitting button as I can view session values on fields after submission in case ajax returns error.I can clear inputs from Javascript, but it will be cleared on both cases if AJAX validation true or wrong. Each input field has AJAX Error message that will be triggered when the input format is wrong.
