Change The Text On Page Dynamically Using GetElementById

May 8, 2010

I'm trying to change the text on my page dynamically using getElementById etc. Just not quite sure how to do it.

<script>
function changeIt() {
document.getElementById('change').innerHTML = '*i want the stuff below here (from 'var' to 'text')*';
}
var Result= ((correct / 5) * 100) + '%';
document.write('<p>Result<b>' + score + '</b></p>');
[Code]...

Just need to know how to put the variables and stuff in the 'innerhtml' part?

Dynamically Change The Font Family Of The Loaded Html Page Of The Main Page?

Nov 4, 2010

On my webpage, I dynamically create an iFrame when a button is pressed, then load a html page from within my own domain into the iframe, based on what html page is loaded into a variable. My question is, can I dynamically change the font family of the loaded html page from the javascript of the main page? My code to create the iframe is:

function setSubTxt(){
var par = document.getElementById('parentDiv');
par.innerHTML = '<iframe src="'+subTxt+'" style="width: 375px; position: fixed; height: 365px; left: 400px; top: 145px; border=none;" name="subIframe" frameBorder=0></iframe>';
frames['subIframe'].window.location=subTxt;
document.subIframe.document.body.style.fontFamily = "Arial";
[Code]....

the variable "subTxt" has the url of the html page to be loaded (always on the same domain). The code: document.subIframe.document.body.style.fontFamily = "Arial"; was my attempt to dynamically change the font, but it didn't work. Also, it should be noted that there is no font family set in the html pages which would override this.

How To Dynamically Change Text In A Table's TD Cell?

Jul 23, 2005

Can someone tell me how to do this if it is possible?

I have a table based web site, and I would like to dynamically change the
text that is shown in a particular cell of a table. I give the cell the
unique ID label1 so I can get a hold of it, and I can get a javascript to
display the data in an alert box (this is just to see if I can access the
text) with:

mycel = document.getElementById('label1');
myceltext = mycel.childNodes.item(0);
currenttext = myceltext.data;
alert(currenttext);

But how do I exchange the text in this cell for something else?

Dynamically Change Text In A Radio Button

Oct 12, 2007

I'm trying to write a Javascript quiz. The idea being that each question has 4 possible answers. The answers being in the form of multiple choice radio button. Instead of having either a long list of radio buttons and questions or loads of pages with tons of duplicated code, I'd like to make the quiz as one page. Pulling the questions, and possible answers from an array. All this I can do, except for changing the text on the radio buttons. In the past I've used.. getElementById with regular text to good effect, but can't manage it with the radio button. Here is part of my test code..

Cannot Locate Dynamically Loaded Control With GetElementById

Aug 3, 2011

I'm having a problem with some dynamically loaded content.
1. Ajax request returns some content that goes in a div. Inside that content, there's a text box with the id "coupon"
2. Also inside that content is a script called add_coupon that sends another ajax request. Use pushes a button, function gets called, all is well.
3. Inside the function, "document.getElementById ( 'coupon' )" returns undefined.

Behold:
<script language='javascript'>
function add_coupon() {
document.getElementById('cart_cc').innerHTML = "<img src='spinner.gif'>";
var coupon = document.getElementById('coupon');
if ( !coupon )
alert ( 'no coupon box' );
$(function() {
$.ajax({
type: 'POST',
url: '/store/ajax_add_coupon/'+$('#coupon').val(),
success: function(data) { $('#cart_cc').html(data); }
});
});
}
</script>
<span style='float: left;'>Coupon: <input type='text' id='coupon' size=15/> <input type='button' value='Add' onclick='add_coupon();' class='btnGreenCSS'/></span>

Dynamically Change Row Colour On Dynamically Generated Table Rows

Nov 25, 2005

At this point I have been able to add the row. But what I want to do and am having trouble with is alternating the row colour to the dynamically added row element.

Sample of code I am using:

Code:
var tbody = document.getElementById('tableItems');

var row = document.createElement("tr");

var remainder = tbody.rows.length % 2;
if(remainder) {
row.setAttribute("class", "rowLightGreen");
}

var td1 = document.createElement("td");
td1.appendChild(document.createTextNode(qty));
td1.setAttribute("class","qty");
row.appendChild(td1);
tbody.appendChild(row);
One thing that puzzles me, is that even after adding a row the table my table.rows.length still = 0.

Does anyone know how I can determine the appropriate amount of rows so that I can apply the appropriate class?

Or is there just something blatantly wrong in my approach?

Change GetElementById To Class?

how to change getElementById to a 'class' equivalent? This script works, however, I need to use it 3 times on a page but it uses ID instead of class. The two IDs that I wrap around the images that would scroll are: #marqueecontainer and #vmarquee.

I tried getElementByClass but it doesn't work.

Code:
#marqueecontainer{
position: relative;
width: 270px; /*marquee width */

Change Alert To Text On Page?

Apr 21, 2011

I'm writing a calculator script that will need user input (how much they pay on internet, phone or cable bill) and then multiply those numbers by a known rate and then show the customer the new number.

I have the math setup (working right now), and the script works to spit out the answers in an alert.

Instead of the alert (which is the only thing I can do correctly at this point), I need the script to give the answers for each bill and then a total answer at the bottom.

The script is here, it's all in the index file. [URL]

Change Displayed Text In Paragraph Without Reloading Page?

Dec 6, 2011

I have a list of paragraphs that all need to say the same thing. Each has it's own ID and class (each one has a different font color) and I need a co-worker to be able to type a phrase or name into a form field & hit "go" and have it update all of the paragraphs to reflect that text in the various colors. I also need it to have a predetermined default phrase.

Example:
Welcome Home (in blue)
Welcome Home (in red)
Welcome Home (in green)
Welcome Home (in black)
Welcome Home (in yellow) etc.

I already have the framework set up (with the colors and everything) it's just a matter of changing the contents of the paragraph-tag.

Basic Text Resize Breaks On GetElementById

Mar 24, 2009

I'm reusing a basic text sizer script and want it to focus on an element of my choice. What is fundamentally wrong with this code? The only issue is that document.getElementById(container); comes back 'not defined' in firebug, and the script doesn't make it to the alert(c) call.

The var container is passed in as 'caseDetail'. Which is a div element generated dynamically with PHP, and has the id "caseDetail". I've loaded the script dynamically inside this element itself (shame on me).

var min=8;
var max=18;
function increaseFontSize(container) {
var c = document.getElementById(container);

Element.getElementById Instead Of Document.getElementById

May 13, 2004

I want to restrict getElementById to search children of a specific element instead of searching the entire document, in the same way that I can do getElementsByTagName using a specific element as the parent.

In this particular instance the parent is a table and the elements I'm interested in are all TDs, so I did the basic getElementsByTagName('TD') off the table and looped through this array checking the IDs. However, I'm suspecting that the browser can do getElementById faster than I can do a loop in javascript. Is there a neater way to do this? For now, I'll settle for IE-only solutions, though it would be nice to have things work in generic browsers.

Dynamically Change A Property ?

Jun 8, 2009

I have a bunch of input rows, each with id in the form of something like.. item:characteristics:age or item:setting:type1:blah. It's kind of like going down folders to get to the item I want. So as you can see in the code, I am splitting each id and trying to rebuild it in the form item[characteristics][age] then set it to the value of the input field. This is modifying the properties of the item. We already have the item object passed into my code and i'm simply modifying the properties to the new values from the user's input.

Does anyone know how I can do this without eval? I'm mainly using it because the variable name can't be hard coded, it is dynamic.

Here's the code I have so far.
