Change Text On A Page
Jul 20, 2005
Using JavaScript, can I tag a block of text and then change the text
appearing in that block?
I'm doing a type of calculator and I'd like to display the resulting
number in a <td> (or div or whatever works) on the page. I'd like to
avoid using a text form field for the output.

I'm writing a calculator script that will need user input (how much they pay on internet, phone or cable bill) and then multiply those numbers by a known rate and then show the customer the new number.
I have the math setup (working right now), and the script works to spit out the answers in an alert.
Instead of the alert (which is the only thing I can do correctly at this point), I need the script to give the answers for each bill and then a total answer at the bottom.
The script is here, it's all in the index file. [URL]

I'm trying to change the text on my page dynamically using getElementById etc. Just not quite sure how to do it.
<script>
function changeIt() {
document.getElementById('change').innerHTML = '*i want the stuff below here (from 'var' to 'text')*';
}
var Result= ((correct / 5) * 100) + '%';
document.write('<p>Result<b>' + score + '</b></p>');
[Code]...
Just need to know how to put the variables and stuff in the 'innerhtml' part?

I have a list of paragraphs that all need to say the same thing. Each has it's own ID and class (each one has a different font color) and I need a co-worker to be able to type a phrase or name into a form field & hit "go" and have it update all of the paragraphs to reflect that text in the various colors. I also need it to have a predetermined default phrase.
Example:
Welcome Home (in blue)
Welcome Home (in red)
Welcome Home (in green)
Welcome Home (in black)
Welcome Home (in yellow) etc.
I already have the framework set up (with the colors and everything) it's just a matter of changing the contents of the paragraph-tag.

I'm a real newbie with Javascript, but I'm having fun. I just bought the book, "Simply Javascript" (have only just cracked it so far). I'm reasonably familiar with PHP (I use a lot of it to do simple things). I'm a Web desinger and do custom CSS Websites (I'm fairly new to that too couple of years or more working with CSS and I've never done a table based layout.
[Code]...
But when the button is clicked, nothing will call the showCaption() function again, and I can't figure out how to call that function as the images advance. I have tried a lot of things with a lot of weird results, one being the tne next caption will display in a blank browser window, without the Webpage! I'm not sure why that happens, but I have a clue.
Is there an easier way to do what I want to do? I only want to show a few lines of text that will describe each image. Seems simple enough to me, but I'm just too new to make it work.

I am not very familiar with AJax, and for simplicity sake, I am trying a simple code. When I click the text box it should change the text and display "hello there", but it did not change. Is there something wrong with the code? I know this can be done with out using AJAX, but I want to test AJAX.page1.php
PHP Code:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">

I am trying to learn SVG and I have alot of the basics including javascript manipulation. But I am really stuck on trying to manipulate the actual text itself.
<text id="text1" x="300" y="200" font-size="60" font-family="tempus sans itc" stroke="red" stroke-width="2" onmouseover="changeText()">
OMG
</text>
I am trying to change the text "OMG" to say something else when you hover over it. For example: It says OMG, I want to hover over the text and have it change to WTF. Like you could do with innerHTML. anybody have any experience with SVG

On my webpage, I dynamically create an iFrame when a button is pressed, then load a html page from within my own domain into the iframe, based on what html page is loaded into a variable. My question is, can I dynamically change the font family of the loaded html page from the javascript of the main page? My code to create the iframe is:
function setSubTxt(){
var par = document.getElementById('parentDiv');
par.innerHTML = '<iframe src="'+subTxt+'" style="width: 375px; position: fixed; height: 365px; left: 400px; top: 145px; border=none;" name="subIframe" frameBorder=0></iframe>';
frames['subIframe'].window.location=subTxt;
document.subIframe.document.body.style.fontFamily = "Arial";
[Code]....
the variable "subTxt" has the url of the html page to be loaded (always on the same domain). The code: document.subIframe.document.body.style.fontFamily = "Arial"; was my attempt to dynamically change the font, but it didn't work. Also, it should be noted that there is no font family set in the html pages which would override this.

I have a text field (field1) already displayed on the HTML page. However, there's a link where you can add additional text fields to the page as well. When the link is clicked, the second text field is added successfully (field2), and when the link is clicked again, the third text field (field3) is added successfully. However, the third field does not add itself to the page, and the text for anything greater than a third field also isn't displayed after. This obviously means that my "fields" variable is not working right
<script language="javascript">
fields = 1;
function addMore() {
if (fields = 1) {
document.getElementById('addedMore').innerHTML = "<input type='text' name='field2' size='25' /> <span>Field 2.</span>";
[Code]....

Is it possible to have a text box input searching for the entered text on another webpage in the same way Find In Page would do? I have a webpage that I want users to input an item, and that this will open the targeted webpage and bring you to (and highlight) the matched item(s) like find in page does. Is this possible or is the easiest way to just make users open the link to the target page and just complete the find in page search there?

I want to make the date at the top right darker blue. But when I do that, all the light blue text next to the pictures also changes.
How can I control the color of the result of document.write output without changing the forground color of the entire page? Note my document write includes variables, so I was hesitant to imbed an html command in the document.write.

I have a forum with over 5000 topics (lots of content in each topic) and I have a wiki-website with over 4000 articles. Both share the same database and are similar in context.
Now, I was wondering if there is a JavaScript out there that can could scan my forum page and underline words on that page that are articles on the wiki. For instance, if I have an article in the wiki entitled "Heart", where ever "Heart" appears in the forum, it is underlined and linked to that exact article on the wiki.
This conceptual idea is very similar to In-Text advertisements, such as Kontera, but I can't seem to find the scripting they use.

I have an issue on the following page: [url]
If you look on the right panel, at the heading "What our clients / journalists say", you will notice that it fades into another set of text. However when the page first loads because it takes a few seconds loading in the twitter feed, you will see a big lump of text running down the page.
Only when the Twitter feed has loaded does the lump of text disappear. Can i overcome this somehow?

I'm building a web page with pictures I've taken with my digital camera. I
have succeded making a javacript that, when clicking on a thumbnail, it
changes the main image.
Now, I would like to put an explanation (and date and some EXIF-info) to
each photo so some text is shown next to the main photo when loaded.
I don't know how to change the text without reloading the whole page, and I
don't want that.

I am looking into web creation and have started making a site just to see how the coding of websites work and how the files link to each other. So, what I am trying to do is when the page loads it prompts "What is your name?" with a default value of "John". Then, when the user hits 'okay' it displays 'Hello John!' or whatever the name is. However, the variable is not being added to the <p> text. Here are the three files (.htm, .css, .js):
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">
<html>
<head>
<title>JavaScript Test One</title>
[code]....
document.write(name) shows that 'John' is, in fact, saved in the var 'name', but for some reason it is not being displayed in the paragraph text. I tried deleting all of the style code from the 'helloText' paragraph, but that still did not display the variable.

I need to change all the links on my site that say "more information"
to something else. Unfortunately I don't have access to change the
component that places these links in the first place, so I need to use
Javascript at runtime to go through, find each instance of a link with
the above string and change it. Is there a good cross-browser way of
achieving this? Is HTMLAnchorElement a good place to start?

I've found out that I can use <div id = "variable"><div> to change text and
pictures on mouseovers.
All I have to do is change "variable" to be the HTML text I want.
I can even change the text to have images.
Is this method recommended?
Should I be doing it another way?
