Cancel The 'unload' Action In 'onbeforeunload' Event
Jul 23, 2005
What code can I put in the 'onbeforeunload' event to cancel the 'unload'
action (when user closes browser) and then present the user with an
alert saying that he/she must use the logout button.
URL...What I am trying to do is be able to click and hold the button and be able to drag around the little plus and stop when the mouse is let go. Now it works fine in Firefox, however, in Internet Exploder it tries to do the browsers default drag and drop and ruins my whole thing.[code]I know its qutie messy in there but right now im just trying to debug and get it working out properly.
I have a problem to add confirmation function to my script. I have a table with data from database. "Delete" button is in each row of table to delete whole row from database (based on ID).I need to after click on "Delete" button there was confirmation to delete it or cancel. I made some tries but no matter I clicked "OK" or "CANCEL" delete was made.
I want to give a warning to user when she tries to navigate away from the page. So I am using a 'Confirm' dialogue. Pressing cancel should stop her from leaving the page.
This is my function which is called from the onUnload of the body tag of the page. code...
When I click on 'Cancel' button (part of the form within the same page), then this code is called and if I press cancel in the dialogue, user stays on same page.
However, I press any outside link, which takes user to some other page, then pressing cancel in the dialogue doesn't stop user moving away from the page.
I have a query related to the life cycle of the java web page. When does the javascript page unload event gets invoked exactly?
Say suppose I am on page 1 and submit the page 1 or click on some link to view the page 2. The dollowing sequence of events will happen:
1. The user (on page 1) clicks on some link (pointing to page 2) on page 1 OR submits the page
2. The browser would send the request to the app server for page 2
3. The app server processes the request
4. The app server sends the resposne to the browser
5. The browser loads/displays the page 2
6. Invokes JS page load event on the browser
Now the question is - when does the JS unload event get invoked? As per my it is after Step 4 & Step 6. Is it always fired in this sequence OR is there any possibility that page unload event would be triggered before Step 4?
I have aded window unload event handler to my code. my page calls some function that takes few secs and page then loads in 5-6 secs. while ths page is loading, if user clicks 'x' on browser window, then code inside unload event handler doesnt get executed. if user waits for page to be loaded fully and hten clicks 'x', then unload event handler gets executed. but i want if during loading user decides to click 'x' button, then also unload handler shold get exucted.
I am pasting a sample code that simulates my situation:
I want to know that how can we fire unload event of body tag using javascript and I want to it for safari browser.I goole this many times but I am not getting the right.I know this is a very simple question for many users but I am a begginer of javascript.
I am using window.unload for some use case in my code. But windows.unload fires on every event. I know to controller it on event like button click or link, but how do I prevent Unload event to fire on refresh or back button event?
Do I have a way (when I get the unload) to distinguish between X button and another cases(for example when moving writing another URL address)? I want to decide what message to display to the user when I get to the unload event, if this possible to do?
I am trying to initiate fancybox popup on page unload (i.e. when the user closes the browser window). I managed to find the following script which does the opposite (launches when the page loads). How can I reverse this code so that it executes on body unload?
I have this function I'm firing to execute the "delete" of an entry
Code JavaScript: $(document).ready(function() { $(".post_tools a.deletelink").click(function() { var container = $(this).parents('.comment').attr("id"); var scriptLoc = $(this).attr("href"); [Code]...
The function executes the alert and if the user selects "OK" it completes successfully. However, if the user chooses to back out of the process when the alert fires by closing the alert, the function does not get canceled, it completes the delete of the comment. What do I need to do to make sure the user can successfully cancel this process when the warring is delivered?
I Have a text box in a jsp that is pre populated. The text box should accept only numbers and it should be greater than a minimum value (this value depends on the user settings). If the user enters a value less than the minimum value, i should pop up an alert saying that the value entered is incorrect and reset it back to previous correct value. How could i do it using onchange event of the text box.
I've been trying to do something and it's killing me because I can't figure out how to do it properly. I have an input box. I'm validating as the user types. Basically deleting forbidden characters as they type. I'm doing it with the onkeyup event. Problem is this looks kinda crappy because the character they type appears briefly and then get's deleted. I want to know how can I cancel the event that writes on the input box so that instead of deleting the character myself, I just cancel the event. I have no idea if the input box or the window is the one responsible for doing this.
building a tree using UL,LI tags as below. Issue seems with cancelling event bubbling. trying to cancel dragenter event to avoid dragenter firing for root LI. dragenter on image cancels bubbling. But dragenter on the child text bubbles and fires for Root. Whole purpose is to identify LI where its dropped. Edit: Noticed this is working as expected in IE6 and not working with IE8.
I'm trying to cancel out a mouse click event on a specific div so that it does nothing, (although there is a link to a pdf in the div that needs to work). this div's container div is an overlay has a jQuery function assigned to it that fades it out, but it fades out itself and this contaned div, (the one that i want to cancel the mouse click event), how can i do this?!?
Doing web page with ASP/VB.NET. Have text boxes for UI on page. Two command buttons - Submit (for db update) and Cancel. I need the Cancel button to prompt the user to verify cancellation. Need OK/Cancel buttons on alert. If user selects Cancel-no action. If user selects OK then I want the text boxes cleared of user text input and focus returned to first text box. I think this may be the code but do not know how to apply it.
function Clear() { var res=window.confirm("Please confirm cancellation-text boxes will be cleared"); [code].....
Is this code valid or invalid for the events I need? How do I set it to fire when user clicks the ASP Cancel button?
is there a way to set up a page so that a event handler function is bound to a DOM object and event but it runs _after_ the browser's default action is complete?
I'm really just playing around, trying to be as unobtrusive as possible, meaning that I didn't want to just do the standard on mouseover/onmouseout event actions inline in my html. My attempt was relatively close, I just need a way to be able to capture the event action without passing it into a function?
Code: <script> var getTabs = function(){ var allTabs = document.getElementsByTagName("div"); for (var i=0;i<allTabs.length;i++){ if (allTabs[i].className == "tabs"){ if (allTabs[i].id == this.id){ if (this.onmouseover != null){ //alert("MouseOVer"); document.getElementById(this.id).style.backgroundColor = "#465D77"; } else if (this.onmouseout != null) { //alert("MouseOOut"); document.getElementById(this.id).style.backgroundColor = "#1a3757"; }}}}} onload = function(){ document.getElementById("tabHR").onmouseover = getTabs; document.getElementById("tabHR").onmouseout = getTabs; } </script>
HTML Code: <!-- Begin Tabs Container --> <div id="tabsContainer"> <div id="tabGlobal" class="tabsActive"> Home </div> <div id="tabHR" class="tabs"> HR Edit </div> <div id="tabReports" class="tabs"> Reporting </div> <div id="tabData" class="tabs"> Data </div> </div> <!-- End Tabs Container -->
