Confirm Buttons -beyond 'OK' & 'Cancel'

Jan 23, 2007

I've found articles/posts on creating custom confirm pops utilizing hidden <div> etc,
but adding 40 odd lines of code just to offer Yes or No buttons seems absurd.
Short of creating a complete confirmation div and script, is it possible
to EASILY change the button values of a confirmation pop-up?
For Example, "There is a related value not selected in the form.
Would you like to select it now?"

Need To Cancel A Javascript Alert/confirm Box

Jul 23, 2005

A description of the problem:
1) Go to a page with various settings and a timeout (forces re-login
if over 10 minutes)
2) Before the timeout, make some changes to settings.
3) Press a "reset to defaults" button that uses a confirmation box to
let the user know what is about to be reset (lists items).
4) Walk away while the confirm box is displayed and come back after
the page timeout.
5) My screen now has the page, a confirm popup on top of that, and a
timeout alert on top of that.
6) Press OK to dismiss the timeout alert. The underlying page goes to
the login screen, but the confirm box remains.

How can I clear any javascript alert/confirm popups in this situation
automatically?

Confirm Dialog With Ok And Cancel On Browser Close

Nov 25, 2011

I have an popup which is an aspx page and when I click on browser close button..., the system should check if there is any unsaved data in the form or not. If there is any unsaved data then the message should be displayed (Do you want to leave..?) with OK and Cancel button... On click of the OK button, the data should not be saved and the user should be returned parent form ie popup should be closed and return to the parent form. On click of the cancel button, the control should return to the Pop.

I had tried the below code...
window.onbeforeunload = close;
function close() {
var result=confirm("Do you really want to close this window");
if (result) {
return true;
} else {
location.href = document.URL;
}}

The above code is not working i.e. the popup is getting closed even on click of close button....
and when clicked on OK it is displaying another msgbox with leave this page and Stay on this page buttons...

Confirm A Deletion Action

Nov 20, 2004

To confirm that a CMS user really wants to delete a record, I have added some Java Script that was originally intended to confirm if a user wants to visit a new web page that takes a long time to download. The script provided two location.replace() options: 1) to visit the new page or 2) to return to the previous page. I want to modify it so that the options are 1) to continue on to the following deletion script or 2) reurn to the previous page. How do I set up option 1) to do this in the following script? Probably something else than location.replace().

Right now I have option 1) set to direct the user to the same deletion page where this script resides. But this will just loop the user back thru the same JavaScript. Again, I want the first option to just allow the user to continue on thru the rest of the deletion script. Code:

'Cancel' On Alert Doesn't Stop Action / Sort It?

Feb 11, 2009

I want to give a warning to user when she tries to navigate away from the page. So I am using a 'Confirm' dialogue. Pressing cancel should stop her from leaving the page.

This is my function which is called from the onUnload of the body tag of the page. code...

When I click on 'Cancel' button (part of the form within the same page), then this code is called and if I press cancel in the dialogue, user stays on same page.

However, I press any outside link, which takes user to some other page, then pressing cancel in the dialogue doesn't stop user moving away from the page.

OnClick Confirm, With .NET Troubles

Nov 19, 2002

I'm developing in .NET, so my form's submit button is created by the framework, not me. .NET automatically controls the submit buttons onClick attribute. So it's not real easy for me to just pop in "return confirm('whatever');" in front of the script that .NET has put in there. (I've read some articles, and it's pretty much a bug in the current version of .NET)

If you scroll down to the last post on this page and read a post by Mike Moore, it explains a workaround for sharing the onClick attribute with .NET.

Now, my problem:
Unlike, Mike's example, I'm wanting to get a confirm, but I don't know how to have JavaScript "listen" for the return without putting it directly into the onClick -- which I can't do.

This is what I have at the moment (running of the page onload event):

Code:

var OldClick;

function window_onload() {
OldClick = document.forms[0].BackButton.onclick;
document.forms[0].BackButton.onclick = MyClick;
}

function MyClick() {
if (confirm('This will NOT submit any changes you've made to Customer Information.
If there are changes to be saved, click CANCEL and use the "Subit Changes" Button.
Otherwise, click OK to return to the Ticket.')){
if (typeof(OldClick) == 'function') OldClick();
}
else {
/* do nothing */
}
}
The problem is that it doesn't listen for any return, and executes the function OldClick() everytime...

I've tried things like this (and many variations), but I guess I don't know what I'm doing, because it doesn't work:

Code:
function window_onload() {
OldClick = document.forms[0].BackButton.onclick;
document.forms[0].BackButton.onclick = "return MyClick();"
}
Can anyone help me with this?

JQuery :: OnClick Prompt With Buttons For 'Ok' Or 'Cancel' Without A Plugin?

Mar 19, 2010

I'm sure this is really simple, but I can't figure out how to prompt a user before they delete an entry in my database-driven website.

I have this:

$("a.deleteprompt").click(function()
alert("Are you sure you want to delete this entry?");
});

But the only option there is 'Ok'. I need to set this up with a 'Cancel' option as well, but don't want to use a plugin like Impromptu to do so as it's overkill.

Onclick Event - Js And ASP.NET - Cancel Button To Prompt The User To Verify Cancellation?

Dec 7, 2009

Doing web page with ASP/VB.NET. Have text boxes for UI on page. Two command buttons - Submit (for db update) and Cancel. I need the Cancel button to prompt the user to verify cancellation. Need OK/Cancel buttons on alert. If user selects Cancel-no action. If user selects OK then I want the text boxes cleared of user text input and focus returned to first text box. I think this may be the code but do not know how to apply it.

function Clear()
{
var res=window.confirm("Please confirm cancellation-text boxes will be cleared"); [code].....

Is this code valid or invalid for the events I need? How do I set it to fire when user clicks the ASP Cancel button?

OnClick Action Within H2

Oct 29, 2007

The goal for this page is to have different news feeds load in different tabs. When MSNBC is clicked, I want the RSS feed to load. Right now, you have to click the MSNBC tab and then click "Hello" right below it.

I have applied the same onClick to the "MSNBC" tab as in the "Hello" link but the onClick doesn't work.

Is this a javascript issue or a CSS issue? Do I have to have the link within the same p?
Any workarounds or is there something I'm doing wrong?

JQuery :: Append A Button/onclick Action?

This is probably something simple that I am not aware of, but when I use append to add a <div> containing a button the button does not work. I've tried to test the appended div with an alert but the results come back as null as if there is nothing there even though the new div is visible on the page. Looking at the page source there is no new div present. Does this have something to do with the appended div not being registered with the DOM?

var newCartItem = "<div class='cartItem'>" + $(this).attr('id') + "<input class='deleteCartItem' type='button' value='Remove' /></div>";
$('#shoppingCartContents').append(newCartItem);
$('input.deleteCartItem').click(function()

IE Set Onclick Object Doesn't Support This Action / Fix It?

Sep 15, 2011

I have looked at the various posts about setting onclick in IE and I cannot see any that exactly describe the problem I am having.

Firstly I am not trying to set onclick by calling setAttribute, which most of the posts describe. I am simply assigning a value to the onclick attribute of the element, which those posts seem to imply.

Specifically I am getting "Object doesn't support this action" on the following line:
editButton.onclick= editCitation;
editCitation is already a function, so I do not see why I should have to wrap it in an anonymous function wrapper to get IE to permit the assignment.

Changing The Action Of A Form With An Input Named Action?

Feb 16, 2009

I have come across a very interesting problem that seems to be impossible to solve. Basically a web application that I am working on relies on a JavaScript function called go to change the input named view to the page name and submit the form. This form's type is post, so no values are included in the actual URL string. There is also another input called action and it's value is view. This is to tell the application that the user would like to view a page. The problem is because of the variables being of method post, page refreshes and back and forwards return errors because the post variables view and action aren't sent with the required data. To somewhat solve this problem I have created a feature that tells the application that if the post value page is empty then to try and get a GET var called page. To insert this var into the go javascript function I simple add this code

document.go.action = document.go.action+"&page="+page;

This line basically adds &page=[page] to the action of the form. The problem is, this code doesn't work because action is also the name of a form element. Referencing document.go.action refers to the input element named action and not to the form's action. Changing the named of the action input value is out of the question (Way to much changing of code, and possible room for error). What can I do to change the action of the form without referencing the input named action. Here is my go form and the JavaScript code:

<form name="go" action"index.php?sid=123" method="post">
<input type="hidden" name="action" value="view" />
<input type="hidden" name="view" value="" />
</form>
