I have a simple AJAX script set up where the XML retrieved populates a DIV.
One XML field can be quite large. For example, one is 35,961 characters
long.
When viewed, the data seems cut off. Is there a limit to how many
characters Javascript can read into a string variable and pass to
innerHTML?
If so, what is that limit? Not to mention...any ideas on a workaround?

I have run into a bit of a problem. If I want to set the html of an element via an ajax call but the content page has a peculiar apostrophe, it's sort of curved, not like a ' but a ’ (slight difference there) . When I view it in my browser it looks ok but if I try to get it via ajax all the ’ chars end up being question marks in black diamonds. How can I avoid this?
Umm and also could anyone tell me the origin of the curved type apostrophe? I feel stupid asking but I really am at a loss for what it is, I can't seem to actually make the character on my keyboard. I am thinking it could be Mac specific but that is a total guess.

I have a HTML form which takes some values including a password field. I have a JS function to check and alert when a user enters some particular special characters(this is bcoz only these characters are not allowed in the back end of the html form, all the other special characters are allowed). following is the code for it.
function checklen()
{
var iChars = "`<>";
for (var i = 0; i < document.ipform.password.value.length; i++) {
[Code]...
now i want a feature which does'nt allow the user to enter an uppercase letter or a special character(only these are allowed~@#$%^&*()-_+|) as the the first character of the password field. Since i am newbie to JS, It would be a great help if some one can help me to sort out this..

I know its primary function is to request information from the server, but can it also submit information? For example I have a page in which the user can drag and drop objects around (using DHTML) and I'd like to be able to dynamically store the coordinates of where they place the objects in the database without them having to click a "Save Changes" button ......

What i'd like is a simple converter to allow a user to input the distance travelled
in miles and the time in hours and minutes, the result being an average speed. What i'd appreciate is for someone to write the script for me and post here if possible.

I need to create a conversion tool. On one side of the tool are 4 form boxes. On the other, just text (not in form boxes). Under the covers, I have formulas for converting the numbers -- mostly basic math functions. So, the user types in numbers, clicks convert and the text changes.For some reason, I'm having a hard time getting this to go. How can I get the results of these calculations to show up as text within a DIV tag and not inside a form element? There are lots of examples of getting these calculations to appear within form boxes, but not within DIVs. This page is already using the Dojo toolkit for some other functionality, is this something I could leverage here to build my Javascript?

I've been reading my JS book, have done a 'Degrees Converter' which converts fahrenheit into centigrade. There is a prompt box which automatically loads when the website is loaded. I am pressuming this is because I have my script in the body.How do I get my script as a link? I wanted to put the words 'Degrees Converter' onto my page(as a link), so that when people click the link, it loads up the prompt box.

I am trying to write a string variable containing XML in the form of text into an iframe such that it shows up as formatted XML with the expand(+) and collapse (-) options that default in IE when opening an XML file.
The first thing I tried is writing the string to a file with .xml extension and setting the iFrame src to that file. This works well normally, however in this case, the file does not get created where I want to due to some security restrictions in IE which I cannot edit as I dont have admin rights.
Secondly I tried appending the string as innerHTML to that iframe but only the content within the XML tags without any formatting shows up which is not intended.
Thirdly I cannot use any server side scripting as this is a very controlled environment and I am not allowed to host servers or edit server scripts at will. This is totally out of question, so I guess Ajax or calling a costom defined web service wont help.
At best I can say, I am limited to HTML, Javascript and vbScript.
I am receiving the string as a responseText from an ajax request which is consuming a web service. If I use responseXML, it doesn't work.
The solution I am looking at is to either display it as formatted XML in an iFrame or to just throw it into a textarea which I am already doing and simultaneously write it to an XML file or do both. If not automatically, atleast have the user press a button and do it.

Is it possible to use javascript and AJAX together to write to a text file or modify an existing text file?
I know that it is not possible with JS alone.
If yes, are there any example code or tutorials available to review?

I am totally new to jQuery and no good knowledge on javascript. However, I was assigned a task, to convert a javascript program to jQuery due to compatibility problem on browsers like Chrome and Safari. My program originally use javascript xmlDoc.load('....') to read XML file, and then use document.write statement to write html tables on client side. Something like this (the sample below may got lots of syntax problem as I jut want to show the major part):
Code:
document.write('<TABLE >');
var y=x[0].getElementsByTagName('NoOfRows');
for (i=0; i<=noofrows-1 && i<=y.length-1; i++){
document.write(' <TD>');
document.write(z[j].getElementsByTagName('RecordDetails')[0].childNodes[0].nodeValue;
}
Now I changed to use jQuery, I can read the XML file elements. However, when I try to write the table, it failed:

Why doesn't this work? The input field doesn't show up at all. I know I'm just missing something really simple here.
<script type="text/javascript">
day = day.getDay()+1;
month = day.getMonth()+1;
year = day.getYear();
newdate= month + '/' + day + '/' + year;
document.write('<INPUT name=Date value='+ newdate + '>');
</script>
