Adding Onkeyup To Input Field
Oct 20, 2006
I have this function that doesn't work. I pass it the td element and
an id, and it makes an input field inside the td. That part workds.
What doesn't work is that I want to add an "onkeyup" on the input
field. Any help? Please??? I don't get any error on my javascript
console in firefox, and I am not seeing any errors in IE.
// makes an input field that submits itself using setCalendarValue()
when it's blurred (it will be blurred if [enter] is pressed)
function makeCalendarInputField(el,hoursId,which){
var id=el.id; ......

I am working on an iPhone Web App using HTML & CSS. I have currently got the JavaScript/HTML5 Geolocation picking up my current location and showing me it on a Google Map using Lat & Long values. I also want to add these Lat & Long Values into the 'address' text field on the page so I can submit the details.
Here is the link: [URL]
When I click 'find me' I would like the lat and long to be added to the 'address' input field.

I have two text fields, 1) Page Title and 2) URI. As and when the user types in the Page Title, I want the text to be copied straight into the URI text field, but after having made all letters small and replacing ' ' (space) with '-' minus sign.
This is what I have so far:
<script type = "text/javascript">
function transfer(which) {
reg = /s+/;
[code]....
case lowering works fine, but with space replacement, it only replaced the first space with '-', and leaves the rest of the spaces as they are.Hence, this is how it looks:
Page Title: This is my Pompous Page Title
URI: this-is my pompous page title
How can I get it to continue replacing all spaces and not just the first one?

I have an AJAX script and the input field uses:
<input name="domainname" type="text" class="domainform" onkeyup="javascript:get(this.parentNode);">
to display the search results as the user is typing.
I pretty much know there is a way to do this, but how would I go about making it so that instead of activating the script as soon as a key is typed (onkeyup), it would wait 1/2 second or maybe 1 second before actually going forward with javascript:get(this.parentNode);
This would reduce server stress so that its not taxing the server every time the user hits a key to type something.

I have a field that use the 'remote' option to call a server sidescript to check the field value.If the field value is wrong, after each new key pressed, the remoteserver side is called.This could be very ennoying and increase the load on our server.There is a way to disable the "onkeyup" event only for a specificfield ?I have tried :
jQuery.validator.setDefaults({
myField: {
onkeyup: false,

I'm trying to access a value from an input form. I know this works without the onkeyup event but with it it says the that document.formname.elementid.value is undefined! Its extremely frustrating. As the user types into the input, I am using AJAX to generate some more options which works but I need to be able to access the input type=text value.

I'm using a text field to insert images into a table cell. I have 360 images. the text field uses the onkeyup to change the image. when I type the number 1, the appropriate image appears. But when I type another number, giving me say 17 nothing happens.
The function uses parseInt to access the value int the text field. I'm fairly sure the onkeyup function is not retricted the the first character typed. Why would the onkeyup not execute after the second character is typed?

I am having a form with two input fields. I want to enter some text in the first input field and then the second field should get the same text. Is there a simple way (maybe a plugin) to do this with jQuery? It would be perfect if I even could output all these input fields values as normal text in <p> or <li> tags.

So I have to ask some stupid questions and make sure that there is not something wrong in this simple syntax. I am trying to get input field attributes type and tagname by field ID. Heres the code..
Code JavaScript:
var type = $('#' + input_id).attr('type');
var tag = $('#' + input_id).attr('tagName');
When I look in firebug I see there is the correct ID in input_id variable and that the input field with that id exists. But for tag and type variables I just get 'undefined' for reason unknown.. syntax is correct or?

I'm trying to replicate a feature found in hotmail, facebook, etc. When you type or select a recipient from an auto-suggest box for your message/email that recipient's name is put into the "To" field box and is encased (usually a blue rounded corner box) with a X to the far right. If the "X" is clicked the recipient is removed.
How can do you put the selected recipient into the encasing and insert it in the "To" field box? If there are multiple recipients how are they differentiated? For example, if there were a ";" between the recipients the semi-colon would separate the values.

var last = all_inputs[last_item].id;

I have a problem created by my complete [rookie] status – only second time venturing into jQuery. I created a simple shopping cart using php and the PayPal buttons (1: buy now, 2: add to cart). The php back end does it great, it generates the table and the buttons and everything works just like it’s supposed to; Except, I forgot to add sizes. So I found out what I need to add, and I realize that the way the buttons work, I will have two different text boxes for size. Not very visually appealing, and since I’m not submitting this to the server before it goes to PayPal to pay, I cannot modify it with php the way I normally would. jQuery / javascript are my only hope of making this work. What I want to do:Have a single textbox where [size] is entered by the user.
Copy the value from the [correct] text box to the Value=”” section of the now hidden field in the PayPal form That way, no matter whether they [BUY NOW] or [ADD to CART] the right size is submitted to the PayPal shopping cart. This is the actual PayPal code that I’m trying to change
<table>
<tr>
<td>
<input type="hidden" name="on1" value="Size" maxlength="200">Size</td>
[code].....
I got this far, and then decided to find how to insert the "enteredVALUE" into the right place in the input text field (what I called output) and I've not been able to figure out how to stuff it in there.

I'm trying to add a text box to a form that has some other complications. My "mcomment" in the code below does work but will only accept numbers, and the whole idea was text.
Code:
function n_od(type) {
var f = document.forms.create_account;
$("#id_od").html("<img src='images/nr_loading1.gif' border=0>");
subcat3 = escape($("#subcat3").val());
if (type == 2)
$("#id_od").load("n_autos.php?step=115&w="+f.width.value+
"&fractionw="+$("#fractionw").val()+"&length_in="+f.length_in.value+
"&fractionl="+$("#fractionl").val()+"&mcomment="+f.mcomment.value+
"&mcat="+$("#mcat").val()+"&subcat="+$("#subcat").val()+"&subcat3="+subcat3);
else {
$("#id_od").load("n_autos.php?step=116&w="+f.width.value+"&fractionw="+
$("#fractionw").val()+"&length_in="+f.length_in.value+"&fractionl="+
$("#fractionl").val()+"&mcomment="+f.mcomment.value+"&mcat="+$("#mcat").val());
}
}

I'm inexperienced with Javascript and I found this script, but I'm not sure how to alter it to do what I want. I have a PHP script that creates forms in a loop. $z in this case could equal 3, and 3 forms each containing 1 Position/Office field will be created including 1 Candidate field. If a user wants to add a new candidate for that specific position, I want to be able to add a Candidate text field just relevant to that Office/Position. With this script, I've only been able to pop up a text field under one Office/Position and not under any other Office/Position. I think it has something to do with my divs.
Javascript:
var inival=0; // Initialise starting element number
// Call this function to add textbox
function addTextBox()
{
[Code].....

I am writing a web application and had a question regarding the best was to append values to an HTTP Post.
For my get requests, I am using jQuery to append auxiliary data using .load as indicated here:
As you can see I am sending along extra value's with my get requests that controller Servlet uses to send back the right data.
In addition to the get requests, I would like to add some extra data to my forms so that I can have Servlet controller perform the appropriate tasks.
Is the best way to do this by adding a hidden field to HTML?
Code HTML4Strict:
If it helps, here is what I am doing with my jQuery submits ....

I am trying to make it where someone can upload a .csv file, and I want to allow them to add multiple ones if they need more than the two that are already there.
What I did was add a div field:
Code:
<div id="fields" style="display: none;">
<p><label>File Field:</label><br /><input type=file name=file size=45 class=formfield /></p>
[Code].....
The problem with that is once they choose a file or two on those first two, then click the add a new field, it does add the new field so it works, but then the files they chose are gone, so now they have to rechoose them. every time.
