YouTube Embed Code And JS
Nov 5, 2010
I am trying to figure out how to use the YouTube embed code but allow the user to paste the specific url to the video he wants to show on the Flash player. I think that to make this work that I will have to either load the information into a SQL database and call it from there or have javascript write the entire embed code with the value video1 as the source but I don't have very much experience with either.

I'm not using any framework so I'm not looking for any jquery shorthand. I just need to change the youtube video with a click.
Code:
<script type="text/javascript">
function changeVideo(vidSrc){
var link = vidSrc.href + "?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0";
var movie = document.getElementById('embeddedMovie');
movie.setAttribute("src", link);
alert('SRC: ' + document.getElementById('embeddedMovie').src);
return false;
}
And the html:
Code:
<object width="560" height="315">
<param name="movie" id="embeddedParam" value="[URL]"></param>
<param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param>
<param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param>
<embed id="embeddedMovie" src="[URL]" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true">
</embed></object>
The alert shows that the source is changing however the page just goes blank and the src is not updated in the markup. I also tried updating the parameter along with the movie but still no luck. Does the same on all browsers. If I use the same technique for images it works so I don't believe it to be any DOM loading issue.

I am currently writing a CMS and I need a few minor variable values from the YouTube Api. I wish to embed a YouTube video into a page and then extract key information about that video such as:
1. The Title
2. The duration
3. The number of hits

So I've come across something which I need to find for a project which would also be very useful in general. How can I create the embed code which has the ability to be copied? I require something similar to the youtube embed code snippet, where you can click on the embed area, it highlights the content for you to copy. I've been doing some searching but can't find much as yet.

I am trying to set up some simple Javascript that takes the text value from a form submission (textarea A), and dynamically inserts that text into another textarea on the same page (textarea B).I need the text from textarea "A" to go in the *middle* of pre-existing text inside textarea B (instead of replacing it).

I want to give a code snippet to partnering websites, so that the script on their page draws from a page on my server. I think "quote of the day" type widgets use this.I copied this code from a site and it works for them, but when I switch the url to a php page (containing only text wrapped in a div) on my site, it doesn't work. I realize this might also be a php question, but I didn't want to cross-post. Does it have something to do with the "jscript=1" variable being passed?

I found an issue with using embed code and jquery's show()/hide () method. I am using embed code inside of a div. So it looks something like this:
<div id="test">
<embed>
whatever here
</embed>
</div>
Now on that I want a user to be able to click a button to show/hide the content. So I create a function like this:
<script type="text/javascript">
function showEmbed(){
if($("#test").show()){
$("#test").hide();
} else {
$("#test").show();
}}
</script>
I then binded that to just a basic text link:
<a href="javascript:void(0);" onclick="showEmbed();">show/hide</a>
Now that works fine as far as showing/hiding the embed code. However, there is one issue with this. When I click the link it reloads the data. I do not want it to reload the data. Say for instance there is a video playing in there. If you click the link it will stop the video
and when you click it again to show it will start again. How to get it not to reload the data.

I review music clips and dance clips. I would like to see a "clapometer"
tool which recorded my reactions as the clip progressed. It could be a
thimbs up and thumbs down icons, recording a timeline of mouseover events as
the clip progressed. This could be useful as feedback to the author, showing
which bits were rated and which not. It could be a useful feature on music
sites and sites like youtube.

I'm a total javascript noob, and new to web development in general, so I'm not sure how to use the API for the YouTube Chromeless player. So far here's my code:
Quote:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">
<html>
<head>
<title>Mary North Travel | Full Service Retail Travel Agency Specializing in Leisure, Corporate, and Cruise Travel</Title>
[Code]...
The loadNewVideo method currently does nothing. According to the API I need to use the getElementById in order to call the API methods. How do I incorporate that to make the methods work? Also, the API says I need to have a javascript function called onYouTubePlayerReady on my HTML page, which I've tried to incorporate based on seeing it used in someone else's code, but I'm pretty sure I'm not doing it right. How and where should this really incorporated?
I've been able to get the video to play when I exchange apiplayer in the URL with the YouTube video ID, and the play, pause, and stop links will control the video. However I'm having trouble incorporating the API methods loadNewVideo, cueNewVideo, etc.

I have a YouTube channel with many videos. The links to these Flash videos are talking to a page within my web site. On the web site, the video pops up in a tiny window on entry of the page, and it closes when you click the close button or it will fade away after it has played its way through.
So the scenario is this: The site looks great, but it doesn't on an iPad. Because I am linking to a Flash YouTube URL, it doesn't load on the non-Flash iPad device. I have done a lot of online reading for a week and discussed on many forums. However, everywhere I turn, I read articles about how what I'm trying to do is not possible--that no YouTube URL will ever play on the iPad. Is this true? If so, why can they play on the iPad YouTube app? What is the difference between the app and my web page?
I found many articles and videos referencing this fallback: [URL]
However, my problem with this fallback is that my videos are on YouTube. I am using a URL to talk to it, more specifically an ID. The client has done this purposely to save bandwidth on their server. I have the start of the Javascript looking like this:
function loadPlayer() {
var params = { allowScriptAccess: "always" };
var atts = { id: "myytplayer" };
[Code].....
Within the loadPlayer function, can I add fallbacks in here (after line 4)? If so, how do I go about writing one? I suppose I'm just lost on how to get the HTML5 video option to work with my project. I have heard YouTube is using HTML5 video in beta, and it may be running in a few months. Would this auto-correct my problem do you think?
Is there a way to find the native file in the YouTube channel and bypass the .swf reference?

I am embedding several youtube videos on a page, by default, youtube videos do not autoplay.
To get them to autoplay, one simply appends &autoplay=1 to the youtube url.
E.g. http://www.youtube.com/v/6YR0LGK_HHA&autoplay=1
(will autoplay)
As opposed to:
http://www.youtube.com/v/6YR0LGK_HHA
(will not autoplay)
Does anyone know of a cool trick for being able to do this when the client clicks on a JS link labelled Play Video (without refreshing the page)? Code:
