Variable Not Changing On Pageload

Dec 21, 2010

[Code]...

What's happening: - On pageload the div with id="energytimer" shows the $timer variable - After one second (or more seconds) the amount of seconds is still the same - If I refresh the page the amount of seconds dropped (as should have been) Note: - The PHP is correct (or should be, just needs to be extended) - If I put an alert("test"); in the function timers() it shows every second Am I missing something really important? I posted this here because I thought my problem should be JavaScript related.

This is the code:

<script type="text/javascript">
// jQuery fadeToggle plugin
jQuery.fn.fadeToggle = function(s, fn){

Odd Variable Behavior - Changing One Variable Changes Another

Oct 16, 2009

I'm trying to create an array of dates two weeks apart from an arbitrary startDate, and I've noticed some odd behavior in my variables. I did a little experiment on my JS console and here's what I got. My inputs are in blue, the output is in black.

Code:

Everything's good so far, but here's where it gets odd. I try to add 14 days to cur.

Code:

Why is it that when I make changes to cur, the same changes are made to startDate?

My code is pretty simple:

var runUpdate = true;
$.get("FirmMaintServlet?action=checkfirmid&firm_id="+$('#new_firm_id).val(), function(data) {
if(data) {

[Code]......

When this runs, if the first alert shows it is supposed to set runUpdate to false, as you can see. But when the second alert shows it is still equal to true.

Changing Variable Value With OnClick?

Nov 13, 2011

I am building a site where I want all links to partial page reload using xmlhttprequest and innerhtml. I have done this before, butI always had to have a seperate xmlhttprequest function for each link. So this time I am trying to write just one function, and have the onClick change which document the request is getting. It is not working and I appear to novice to figure out why. Here is the code, i have bolded some relevant lines:

<script type="text/javascript">
function ChangeContent()
{
var whichPHP;

[Code]....

Also, if I use the innerhtml function to write another of these hrefs, will that link be able to access the function if it is in the header, or should I put the entire function in a .js file on the server? The point of all this would be that the entire page never reloads and all the text content is swapped out on demand.

Changing Variable Value Based On <option> Selection

Aug 20, 2011

I need to change the value of a variable on a <select> question.

Code:

Currently the variable choses either 1or 2 so when I execute the function it will sum the value ie..3,6 ect.

I would like it to add the value in the text part of the option ie.. 5000,10000,15000.

I realize if I could I could change the value to be the same as the text value but the backend of this software needs the values to stay 1 or 2.

I was trying to do an "if else" statement but I am not sure how to format the syntax to work:

Jquery :: Php - Variable Not Changing Inside Click Function

Dec 22, 2010

I have a list of most 17 recent entries from a db table and wanna use jquery/ajax to have a next button that loads the next 17 entries when you click it. It passes the 17 variable to the .load which works fine first time around (this is later used as mysql limit), but then I try to increase the start variable with 17 so that next time I click it would pass 34 to the .load (so it loads next 17 again) but this doesn't work, it simply loads same 17 again on 2nd, 3rd ect. click (so nothing changes). use global variables by setting it with var and using it without var inside the function.

<script>
var start = 17;
var loadUrl = '<?php echo site_url('welcome/battles'); ?>';
$("#latestbattlesnext").click(function () {

JQuery :: Changing The Value Of An Input Field With Val() Is Not Changing The Posted Value?

Feb 2, 2011

I am trying to dynamically clear the value of a form input field and then submit the form.When I used $('#my_field').val('') to clear the field, it was cleared on the screen but when the form was submitted the original value of the input field was posted.My browser is FireFox and I can see using FireBug that when the field is cleared, firebug is still showing the html code with the old value. E.G. <input type="text" value="old_value" />The same situation occurred if I used $('#my_field').attr('value', '') to clear the field.The same situation occurred if I actually changed the value of the field rather than just clearing it.To work around this problem I ended up using the $('#my_field').removeAttr('value') to clear the field before it was submitted.

Changing Text With Changing Random Images?

May 7, 2009

I am a complete novice when it come to Javascript. I copied the script for displaying random images at a specific interval (from javascriptkit.com). I would appreciate knowing whether the following is possible:

The pages are based on tables, so the parts that change are all cells.

1. Can I define text instead of an image in the array? i.e. can I have the image change to say an apple in one cell and the next cell have text explaining what an apple is?

2. Would it be possible to put a countdown timer for when the image/text is going to change?

Image Changing And Changing InnerHTML With JS : Query

Jul 6, 2011

Ive got a small image of a power button and when pressed the inner section on the button changes to yellow, but when its pressed down Im also trying to get part of my H1 (main header logo title) to change to yellow.

Ive created a span with an id surrounding the letters of the H1 that I want to change, the id being : "power";

The javascript that I have come up with so far and works is as follows:

<img id="poweron" src="http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/images/power.png" alt="Power on button" onmousedown="this.src='images/poweron.png';" onmouseup="this.src='images/power.png';"/>

I understand Im not really supposed to be using inline JS, and I know Ive got to create a function for the onmousedown event to trigger changing the H1 text, so am I under the right impression that the JS so far written is redundant and will have to be re-written so thats contained within a script placed just before the closing </body> and an external script for invoking the main function ?

Declare A Variable Inside A Function - Returns White Space - Not Variable Value

Aug 17, 2010

I am trying to declare a variable inside a function and use it later on in my code... but it just already returns white space... i.e. not variable value. I am setting it within this function:

function show_video1(){
document.getElementById('video1').style.display="block";
var video1Name = "Education World News (Part 1)";
document.getElementById('video2').style.display="none";
document.getElementById('video3').style.display="none";
document.getElementById('video4').style.display="none";
[Code]...

and trying to call it later on with this: <script type="text/javascript">document.write(video1Name)</script> It might be worth noting that each one of my 11 videos will hace a different name.

Onclick Defined Variable - Print Variable Some Place In Document

May 28, 2007

i'm not really sure how to explain this, since I know nothing about javascript, so i'll try and illustrate by the use of php (hope it makes sence)

I have a set of different links, like:

<a href="link.com?page=text1">text 1</a>
<a href="link.com?page=text2">text 2</a>
<a href="link.com?page=text3">text 3</a>
etc, where page is dynamic and can be anything I chose..

Another place in the same document, I echo out what the page variable is, like:

echo "$page";
so when clicking "text 1" the echo will output what i've defined the page to be, in this case "text1" ..

So I want to be able to click the links and change the output of the echo all depending on what i've defined in the link - without refreshing the page!

Is there any easy way to do this?

ChangeYear - GetFullYear - SetFullYear Functions - Extract The 4-digit Value From The Today Variable And Store The Value In A Variable Named Year

Oct 13, 2009

a.) specify two parameters for the changeYear function: today and holiday.

function changeYear(today)(holiday){

b.) in the first line of the above function, use the getFullYear() date method to extract the 4-digit value from the today variable and store the value in a variable named year.

first line

c.) in the second line; use the setFullYear() date method to set the full year of the holiday date object to the value of the year variable.

second line

d.) in the third line, use a conditional operator on the year variable. The test condition is whether the value of the holiday date object is less than the today date object. If it is, this means that the event has already passed in the current year and the value of the year variable should be increased by 1.

third line

e.) in the fourth line of the function, again set the full year value of the holiday date object to the value of the year variable.
