I don't know if I can/should do this w/ JavaScript on the client or can/should this be done on the server - and if so what language would be best?
Here's my goal:
I am asking users 4 questions - depending on the one selected - that answer creates a profile and that profiles stays with them throughout the site.
E.G.; if (women under 30) is selected this information will stay on the site throughout w/ content detailed for this group.
I'm making a fansite for a game called RuneScape and I'm a bit stuck on this part.
What I need for my website is, a page that will have the prices (min, middle, and max) of things from this [URL] or other items, which will be chosen later on.

Just wondering what the current size standard is for web-page design ... it used to be 800 x 600 pxls (which seems quite small these days).

Im trying to add a cross browser event listener to an element so i made my own function that detects weather the browser is IE or Firefox, then add the appropriate eventListener function to the element.
Code JavaScript:

but when i run the code inside Firefox i get a error message "name.addCrossBrowserEventListener is not a function".
So I'm wondering is it possible to add custom functions to elements directly or is there any special way of doing it.
I've been writing a slideshow script that I've had working perfectly on my mac in Chrome and Safari, however I went to look at it in IE8 and lo and behold it falls over. It says 'object doesn't support this property or method' in relation to the new SlideShow line in the main() function.

The "dw" function writes nothing. Suggestion on how to get "shorthand document.write" function working. In the meantime I'm going to see if I can get Protype to provide a shorthand function.
i'm trying to make a script which display all the info user has chose on the form before submission. now every thing is working as i expected, i have only one problem and it's with the checkbox element. the script is displaying only 1 option and not all the option that has been chosen .
this is the code for the specific checkbox -

When the user clicks on one of the radio button, it will trigger the AJAX call and return another html file in the "div" content that I set in the main html page. The other html file contains a user defined JS function (e.g. "updateContent()") which use the onclick event handler to call the function. When I'm running the app, and click on the button. I had seen the firebug was complaining the "updateContent() is not defined" error. The function itself works fine and must be defined properly.

I'm just starting up in web design and I have an interesting challenge that I'm hoping can be solved w/java script. I have a site with an application form. When the form is to be submitted, the form data needs to be emailed to the correct person to handle that particular application. However, that can't be determined by anything specific in the form. It can only be determined by the link that they clicked on to get to the form. I really don't want to have 22 identical forms with just a different EmailTo addie, which is what the previous site developer did. Someone please tell me this can be done w/java script? View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm currently working on an AJAX chat room (jpfchat), which is basically phpfreechat integrated with Joomla. The right column of the room shows current users in the room and refreshes dynamically via AJAX so when new users come in, everyone's session shows the new visitor. I want to be able to customize the script so it pulls custom user info from the Joomla DB. I'm attempting to do this using AJAX.
I located the part of the script that generates the list of usernames. Basically it's a 'for' loop that spits out html using javascript and the JSON response. I've appended a line to this section to execute my custom script. The problem I'm having is that while everything works great on IE, it only works on Safari if I DON'T use asynchronous and it DOESN'T work on EITHER Safari or Firefox if I DO use asynchronous.

I'd like to create a quick and dirty validation method for a form. It's not meant to be very secure.
The way I picture it working is this - there is an input field that asks for a password. If the user types in the password correctly, the "submit" div tag will change from "none" to "block". , which will display the submit button. I just am not familiar with JS enough to know if that's possible.

Is there any way that an Apache server can recognise that a users browser has changed from your web site to another site. ie. is there a way of executing a CGI based on when the address bar no longer has your FDQN.

I need to take some action when the user leaves my website. By leave I mean one of the following two cases:
1) Closes the browser
2) Goes to some other site (different domain)
Is there a way to detect this? I know that the event onbeforeunload and onunload gets fired when the user leaves the page, but these also get fired when the user leaves page A in my site and just goes to page B in my site. I don't want to alter every link within my site to fire the onclick event and in such event to "remember" in a JavaScript variable this is a navigation within my site. I am looking for some clean solution if one exists. For example, is there a way to get the information in the DOM where the user is going to when the onbeforeunload or onunload are fired?
Imagine a wife has signed on to a web site in a browser tab. She does not sign off and walks away to do something else. Her husband sits at the computer and seeing her signed on, opens a new tab and tries to sign on to the same site.
I am trying to write a script that will close other tabs/windows when the husband goes to the same site to sign on.
So, on the sign on page (or even better, the sign off page), when the sign on button is clicked, a piece of Javascript code is run first. The javascript simply goes through all tabs on the browser, and checks to see if any such tabs has an HTML document that came from the same domain as the sign on page. If such tabs exist, then before POSTing the user name and password to the server, the Javascript code will close those tabs that contain HTML documents came from the same domain.
So, I understand I need to set the window.name to a specific value. But does anyone know what the code on the sign on/sign off page to close the other tabs/windows would look like?
