Detect When A User Leaves Site?

Aug 3, 2009

I need to take some action when the user leaves my website. By leave I mean one of the following two cases:

1) Closes the browser
2) Goes to some other site (different domain)

Is there a way to detect this? I know that the event onbeforeunload and onunload gets fired when the user leaves the page, but these also get fired when the user leaves page A in my site and just goes to page B in my site. I don't want to alter every link within my site to fire the onclick event and in such event to "remember" in a JavaScript variable this is a navigation within my site. I am looking for some clean solution if one exists. For example, is there a way to get the information in the DOM where the user is going to when the onbeforeunload or onunload are fired?

Form Validation - Should Return Message Like "should Not Be Empty" When User Leaves Field Blank

Oct 8, 2010

I have html code like this

Now I want to know how can i display alert message to the user saying that the particular label name should not be empty..

For eg.. here I want to display alert as "Did you find this article useful? field should not be empty".... (Assuming this is mandatory)

I have so many fields like this in my form(checkbox, radio buttons, etc...) and i want to display alert with label name...

How can I do this using javascript.. (I know how to do validation in javascript popping up the alert(without label name), But I am not sure how to display alert with label name))))

How To Detect That User Closes The User-agent Window ?

Dec 2, 2005

I have read all posts about how to detect that url have changed to new
page and trigger the event handler then eg.

function aidLogout(evt) {
if(evt) {
/* maybe via analyse of evt object i can detect the close of the
browser window */
}
if(window.event) {
/* maybe via analyse of window.event object i can detect the close of
the browser window */
}
var i = new Image();
i.src = "aidlogout.asp?uid=1562&SessionID=ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOP"
} /* assuming that aidlogout.asp will return nothing or empty image */

window.unload = aidLogout;
/* or via
if(window.addEventListener) {
window.addEventListener("unload", aidLogout, false);
} else
if(window.attachEvent) {
window.attachEvent("unload", aidLogout);
}

PS i know about super Gecko onclose event which fires when browser
window is closed, but i could not find such method in IE.

How To Detect Navigating Away From A Site

Jun 19, 2006

I have a web application that has basic authentication turned on (IIS).
What I would like to accomplish is detect whether user is navigating
away from the site or simply going to the different page using
JavaScript. I am aware that it is easy to detect where you came from
(referrer), but I haven't been able to find a way to where you're going
to. I did my fair amount of research online, but I couldn't find a
solution for this.

However, my boss told me that he has seen a website that detects the
fact that you're navigating away from your site. Does anyone know
anything about this?

Detect If User Has Authenticated

Oct 26, 2006

How can Javascript code detect if a user has been authenticated to see
a page, that is, if he has entered a username and password for HTTP
authentification to see the current page. Possibly that can be
determined from the HTTP request header, but how to access this data
for the current page in Javascript?

Plus: how can it detect if the current page is encrypted? Is looking at
the protocol ( https:// ) enough to determine this?

I need it to work in a Firefox extension and why I need this is because
I don't want to process pages that may contain sensitive information.

User Defined Info. Throughout The Site?

Aug 1, 2001

I don't know if I can/should do this w/ JavaScript on the client or can/should this be done on the server - and if so what language would be best?

Here's my goal:
I am asking users 4 questions - depending on the one selected - that answer creates a profile and that profiles stays with them throughout the site.

E.G.; if (women under 30) is selected this information will stay on the site throughout w/ content detailed for this group.

JQuery :: Good Way To Detect That User Hasn't Typed Anything For 200 Ms?

Apr 24, 2009

my page allows the user to enter a number in a text box and a search request is sent to the server (if the user stops typing for 200ms) using AJAX. The following is the desired behavior.

(1)User starts typing a number in the text box. As the user is typing, no search requests are sent to the server.

(2)Once the user stops typing (i.e. no key events for 200 ms), use $.post() to execute a search.What is a good way to detect that the user hasn't typed anything for 200 ms?Is there anything in JQuery that I can use?

Close Tabs And Or Windows When 2nd User Tries To Sign In To Site

Feb 21, 2011

Imagine a wife has signed on to a web site in a browser tab. She does not sign off and walks away to do something else. Her husband sits at the computer and seeing her signed on, opens a new tab and tries to sign on to the same site.

I am trying to write a script that will close other tabs/windows when the husband goes to the same site to sign on.

So, on the sign on page (or even better, the sign off page), when the sign on button is clicked, a piece of Javascript code is run first. The javascript simply goes through all tabs on the browser, and checks to see if any such tabs has an HTML document that came from the same domain as the sign on page. If such tabs exist, then before POSTing the user name and password to the server, the Javascript code will close those tabs that contain HTML documents came from the same domain.

So, I understand I need to set the window.name to a specific value. But does anyone know what the code on the sign on/sign off page to close the other tabs/windows would look like?

Jquery :: Modal Window Displays When User Visit Site

Jun 26, 2010

I want to have a jquery modal window which displays automatically when a user visits the site (preferably at any page). This modal window would then contain a disclaimer message with an 'OK' button to acknowledge the user has read the disclaimer. When the OK button is pressed, the modal window closes and the user is free to browse the rest of the site - the modal window would not display again on any other page, nor if the user visits the site at another time. Now, in theory, I know I need some code for a jquery window that automatically displays, and then have to set a cookie to ensure that the browser doesn't display it again, but I'm just not sure which is the best method to go about it.
