Detect A User's URL String With Embedded
Aug 30, 2011
I currently use Google's and Quantcast's javascript includes on my site. I want to do the same thing for users of my site except on a much easier level. I want users to include a javascript that detects the URL of the page where the script is included... Should be easy but I don't know where to start.

I have read all posts about how to detect that url have changed to new
page and trigger the event handler then eg.
function aidLogout(evt) {
if(evt) {
/* maybe via analyse of evt object i can detect the close of the
browser window */
}
if(window.event) {
/* maybe via analyse of window.event object i can detect the close of
the browser window */
}
var i = new Image();
i.src = "aidlogout.asp?uid=1562&SessionID=ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOP"
} /* assuming that aidlogout.asp will return nothing or empty image */
window.unload = aidLogout;
/* or via
if(window.addEventListener) {
window.addEventListener("unload", aidLogout, false);
} else
if(window.attachEvent) {
window.attachEvent("unload", aidLogout);
}
PS i know about super Gecko onclose event which fires when browser
window is closed, but i could not find such method in IE.

How can Javascript code detect if a user has been authenticated to see
a page, that is, if he has entered a username and password for HTTP
authentification to see the current page. Possibly that can be
determined from the HTTP request header, but how to access this data
for the current page in Javascript?
Plus: how can it detect if the current page is encrypted? Is looking at
the protocol ( https:// ) enough to determine this?
I need it to work in a Firefox extension and why I need this is because
I don't want to process pages that may contain sensitive information.

Is there any way that an Apache server can recognise that a users browser has changed from your web site to another site. ie. is there a way of executing a CGI based on when the address bar no longer has your FDQN.
Would this be via Javascript [if possible?] or ???

I need to take some action when the user leaves my website. By leave I mean one of the following two cases:
1) Closes the browser
2) Goes to some other site (different domain)
Is there a way to detect this? I know that the event onbeforeunload and onunload gets fired when the user leaves the page, but these also get fired when the user leaves page A in my site and just goes to page B in my site. I don't want to alter every link within my site to fire the onclick event and in such event to "remember" in a JavaScript variable this is a navigation within my site. I am looking for some clean solution if one exists. For example, is there a way to get the information in the DOM where the user is going to when the onbeforeunload or onunload are fired?

I'm trying to make a script which will check if the string which the user sent from a form contains ONLY letters. The problem is if the user entered something like this "25 years old" it allow that to be submitted. It only blocks submissions of the form if the user submits NO letters like this "12345". I want it to block submissions if at least one character isn't a letter. Here's my code:
var message = document.myform.formtest.value;
var allowed = /[A-z+]/;
if(!allowed.test(message)) {
alert("The field only allows letters (a-z).");
return false;
}

my page allows the user to enter a number in a text box and a search request is sent to the server (if the user stops typing for 200ms) using AJAX. The following is the desired behavior.
(1)User starts typing a number in the text box. As the user is typing, no search requests are sent to the server.
(2)Once the user stops typing (i.e. no key events for 200 ms), use $.post() to execute a search.What is a good way to detect that the user hasn't typed anything for 200 ms?Is there anything in JQuery that I can use?

Does anyone know of a list of browser user agent strings, produced by the navigator object? - navigator.userAgent
Like every other web developer, I'm writing some browser-specific code, but don't have the means to test it on every browser out there. However, if I had access to the user agent strings produced by each browser (or at least the *main* browsers) I could figure it out without the need for actual testing.

Can Javascript be used to detect a certain url and then "not" write some html according to that url and also detect something on the page and "then" display some html?.
Example: I'm working on a volusion site that uses asp. There's basically only one page that's changed dynamically. I would like to display some html when and only if the cart has any items in it. But also not to show up on the check-out pages.
The page dynamically displays "Your cart has 1 item in it..." when the visitors puts something in their cart.
So could javascript detect when this is displayed then write some html and then also detect if the url is showing the cart and then not show the html?

I'm using CDO to send information by e-mail to the users of an intranet system.
By embedding a asp page via objMail.CreateMHTMLBody, I can send them dynamic content like info on db..
The point is: Since I tested and realized the embedded page can't perform a recordset to populate itself with db content, I'm sending this info as parameters and retrieving at the embeeded page before beeing attached on e-mail by quesrystring.
The tests I'm doing is gathering info from recordset (on a CDO page) like this:

I've created an ad unit which is to be embedded on other sites. In this ad unit are links which when clicked upon, as supposed to lightbox the link using lightview over the whole page, not just inside the ad unit embed.
I've used iframe and object tags and the result is that the content always opens inside the object frame. Is there any way, other than a flash embed which expands, to do this? Basically, what I'm looking for is a non-Flash ability to overlay something over the whole page (or at least expanded outside of the embed)
