Storing Data In LI Elements?
Feb 6, 2011
I have an unordered listWhen clicking one of them, I want to do somethingEasy so far.Now, I also want each list element to have some unique data associated with it so my JavaScript could treat each list element individually.As I see it, my options are:Add a custom non-sanctioned attribute to the LI element (probably not a good idea).Add an ID to each LI element, and name the ID such that the data can be extracted (also, probably not a good idea).Add a hidden input in each LI element and store the data there (seems like there's got to be an easier way).

just a very basic question. Have a div (id - photos) with multiple images. 1) Does this select them all? $('#photos img') 2)If so, how can i capture this information? Like so -> var bunchOfStuff = ($('#photos img')); and 3) if so, why can't i do something like alert(bunchOfStuff.length)into code tags...

I'm building an online auction system. Each participant will be allowed to post one bid per minute for about 3 hours. Each person's "bid history" must remain visible to him during the entire auction in a scrollable list, and this list must be sorted from high to low bid. These auctions will have upwards of 10,000 bidders and the server will be seriously stressed in dealing with so many bidders posting another new bid every minute. Therefore I want to alleviate any additional stress on the server by storing and sorting each bidder's "bid history" in his own browser -- perhaps in a cookie or maybe there is a better javascript-based data storage container available for this purpose ... ?
This seems like a natural application for javascript because of the fact that only the individual bidder needs to see his own list of submitted bids -- sorted from high to low -- and I'm hoping that javascript can be employed to do this.
1- A bidder enters his bid into a form (example 12345.67) and posts the form to the server;
2- Javascript grabs the posted value and appends it to the cookie or whatever container is storing the bids in the browser;
3- Javascript re-sorts the values and displays them again, perhaps in an iFrame or maybe in another kind of scrolling list on the main page.
Note that these bids will NOT be placed in ascending or descending order (this auction is different from most) and this means the values must be re-sorted each time a new value is posted -- so they always appear sorted from high to low in the list.

I'd like to setup a drag and drop interface for organising menu items in a WordPress plugin I wrote. Unfortunately I know next to nothing about Javascript so don't even know where to start.I've found the following link which demonstrates the sort of interface I'd like:However, I have no idea what to do with the boxes once I have them set up. How would I detect where they are on the page and perhaps add that information to an input box?I don't need pixel perfect information, just knowing that box 1 is stacked on top of box 2, or box 4 is the first box in the middle column etc. would be enough.Then if it could add that information to a hidden input box, or maybe an input box for each box, then when the user hits a submit button the data would be stored. I'm sure this is very simple but I don't even know where to begin

I was wondering if there way a way to loop through elements that contain a data key applied by data(). I couldn't find a selector for data keys.
This for instance, I would like to give me the value of 'foo' for where ever it has been applied.
$(document).ready(function() {
$('body').data('foo', 52);
$('head').data('foo', 32);
});
[Code].....

This div is the only div. Inside it has images that are clickable. I want to be able to first grab the left position of the elements and when they like a left arrow want to take this left number value and subtract it by a number and if the the right arrow is pressed then it will add a number to the left number value.Is this possible and if so how can I do this? I am guessing i can use the .css with the .child in jquery.

I've gone back and forth on the best way to store data in HTML elements which is used to support JavaScript. For instance, I might have a bunch of rows each associated with a SQL ID, and upon clicking the delete element, want to grab the id, and send it to the server. I've successfully used the following three solutions, but would like to standardize on just the best.
Option 1 is technically valid, but seems excessive. Option 2 will work fine, but is considered by some as bad practice. Option 3 requires the extra step of splitting the ID from some identifier string, and care not to have the same record twice on the page.
HTML Code:

After appending the data (received from ajax) to <ul><li> I want to perform some .click() on these appended elements .. but i can't seem to get it working. Is this a bug or the .click() function should be placed somewhere else.

I am developing a web application in java (jsp's and servlets). For the project I am working on I will need to develop an html data entry screen and the code to load data into the screen, and then save the data back to the back-end database.
How to do the following:
Read the data out of the database (JDBC, no problem) in a servlet.
Put the data into the appropriate form for returning to the data entry screen, which will be a jsp. (Is JSON the right choice for passing the data from the servlet to the jsp?)
In the jsp, parse the returned data and populate the HTML form elements (text fields and combo boxes). When a button is clicked, pull the data out of the form elements and return to a servlet for saving back in the database.

I have some DIV elements having some ID and content in it .. for example
I have submit button when I click this ... I should generate a JSON data structure like this
I need to POST this on submit button clicking.... I have seen some serializeArray() function but it works well for form based elements, I have created some string based structure in which I am printing the single quotes and double quotes like this fashion by creating a array and pushing itvar result = new Array();

I was wondering if it was somehow possible to store the complete content of a div for the following scenario.
I have a div (#container) that contains an image with a link. If you click that image the contents of the div should be replaced with content I load from an external page. --> $('#container').load('test.html');
In test.html I have a close button that should unload the data and retrieve the original image with link.
I want to be able to do this with several divs, so that when one button is pressed, a previously opened one returns to it's 'closed' state.
So basicly
1. I want to show an imagebutton
2. when clicked show external content
3. And be able to unload that external content so the original image returns.

I just recently started getting into JavaScript (2 days ago) after seeing how limited HTML and CSS by itself is, and I created a game where you have a certain amount of time to click as much as you can. The game works fine but the problem is with my leaderboard. I want to be able to store the high scores and names so that everybody see's the same thing. I know cookies save data but is that only clientside? All I need to do is save 6 variables so that the leaderboard is always updated.

JSPs seem to offer more than one way of storing Objects to a session context for session tracking purposes.
Both these seem to work Ok in my JSP code on Tomcat 5.0.x:
// using pageContext with session scope
pageContext.setAttribute("name", myObject, PageContext.SESSION_SCOPE);
// using the session context of HttpServlet
session.setAttribute("name",myObject);
Whats the difference here? Is there a preferred way to do this?
