Sortable And Scrollable Table With Fixed Header?
Feb 2, 2006
I'm trying to create a table that has a fixed header but the table contents can be scrolled and also sorted by column headings.I'm already using sortable.js (http://www.surfmind.com/musings/2003/12/01/) library to sort the columns.I can find examples where I can scroll the table with fixed headers, but most of these use a dual table approach, with sortable.js, I think only one table is required. I've found examples how to scroll within a table element using autoflow and scrolling using CSS that I can't follow (I'm new to all of this).How can I get the contents to flow with a single table? Forgive me if it's too easy. If you can help me with a solution, you can ridicule me 'til the cows come home...I'm ok with that. Here is the basic table I have layed out.
<table id="viewKeysetTable" class="sortable">
<tbody>

I'm designing a one page portfolio site. I was able to make this work when I redid it last year but I'm having problems again. I have a fixed header with the content scrolling underneath it. I want the user to be able to click a link and it eases to that point. I got this script from web designers wall. I am such a novice with jquery I don't know where to begin to make this work. I'm not sure how to call from the link in the header to the element on the page. The thing is, inside the contain div underneath the header I have split it into two columns and i've had to rename the divs, I don't know if this is what is causing the problem. For example, in the navigation it is called "work" but I need to call it to I'm guessing "content-work"?? Also would the fact that the jquery loading in the page from google is 1.7.0 while the script is only written in 1.4.2...does that matter?? If I need to post my css I will.

how I can limit the "dragability" of an sortable item, to ex. a element inside the item. Meaning, I only want the item to sort when the header of the item is draged. Is there a simple way to do this, or do I have to modify core code/ create a helper to accomplish this functionallity? Have read the docs, but haven't found anything that mentions this..

I have a jquery function for loading links from my navigation on the left to the content div on the right. I also have a function for applying a class called active to that anchor link's list item parent. I later found that going through other included files in the template that there was already a function for adding that class in one of the included files (js/titanium.js) however when I take off my add class function it doesn't apply it. I thought the function from the titanium.js file would apply it but it doesn't. I have all the included javascript files included in the head of my page but for some reason it's still not using what's inside them I guess.
Another issue is that in the template file there is a jquery sortable function for any table, also included in another javascript file, and I'm not sure why its not working with my tables to make them sortable? [URL]

found a script here that allows for sortable tables in HTML, and for the most part, it works great. But with my date field, it either sorts alphabetically (Aug->Sept), or, if I change Names to Numbers (Jan=1, Feb=2, etc) the sort order becomes 1, 10, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 (I only have Jan-Oct dates). I think I have to tell my script to interpret my numbered dates as text, but like I said I'm new to JS and wouldn't know where to begin. Javascript [URL]

I am using the following code to make a sortable table on my website. I got the code from [URL] (I admit it is not my code but it suits my needs well). Since I know most people do not what to click on links to random sites, this is the code I am using :
HTML Code:
<HEAD> <script LANGUAGE="Javascript"> <!-- This script and many more are available free online at --> <!-- The Javascript Source!! [URL] --> <!-- Begin function setDataType(cValue) { // THIS FUNCTION CONVERTS DATES AND NUMBERS FOR PROPER ARRAY // SORTING WHEN IN THE SORT FUNCTION var isDate = new Date(cValue); if (isDate == "NaN") { if (isNaN(cValue)) { // THE VALUE IS A STRING, MAKE ALL CHARACTERS IN // STRING UPPER CASE TO ASSURE PROPER A-Z SORT cValue = cValue.toUpperCase(); return cValue; } .....
For some reason the code only works for IE, is there an easy way to get this code to work for other browsers such as Firefox or safari?

I have a table as shown:
Day010203040506070809101112131415161718192021222324252627282930DutyYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYNNNNNNN
When a particular 'Y' is clicked I need the header value. I can detect the click but I am not sure how to get the header (the day value). It appears that the click event is passing the 'Y'. Does the click event pass other information that can be used to get the header value?

I'd like to know if there is a way to keep a table header fixed on top of a div while I scroll the table rows. I have a div high 200px and the table itself is around 300px so when I scroll down I'd like to always see the header on top. I already use for the table tablesorter so the solution must be
compatible with that plug-in.

My script is the same as this http://www.w3schools.com/php/php_ajax_database.asp
When the data comes back to me its using
document.getElementById("txtHint").innerHTML=xmlHttp.responseText
I get the data back fine. However inside getuser.php my data is in a sortable list. If i use this code above. My data comes back but I can no longer sort my list and move things around (I'm guessing because its returned as HTML only). Can anybody give me a solution of what i need to change so my list is also sortable again?

I am looking for a way to highlight the row and column header cells as the cursor moves over a cell within the HTML table. This is the code I'm using, but I'm not sure how to identify the TH node of a current (highlighted) cell.
Code:
var table = document.getElementByID("tableId");
var row = table.parentNode();
var col = table.childNodes();
I am wondering if "this" would help in that regard, as in

This is a common requirement - "freeze panes" in a table, so that some
header rows and some columns on the left are frozen while the body content
scrolls. This makes large tables more usable on screen.

I am looking for a javascript way to make a table header visible as the user scrolls down my web page. The table header is produced by php from a mysql db. The table is populated by results based on the user filter inputs.
see: [URL]
The table cells can be any width depending on the search results. I think a copy of the table header needs to be made and this would then float at the top of the page staying at the top no matter how far the user scrolls down, so that it's position would depend on the scroll bar position.

The scenario is, a scrollable DIV on a webpage. Within the DIV is a scrollable textarea. Beside the DIV is a button whose onclick event creates and places another scrollable textarea below the first. Any subsequent onclick events places another scrollable textarea below the previous. I'm fairly sure that CSS will come into play for positioning of additional textarea's. My thinking is to create an array for the first textarea ID, then increase the array by 1 on any subsequent onclick event, then assign contents (values) of textarea(s) to ID's using innerHTML. Is this approach plausable, or is there a simpler method to this madness? Is there a method/function for calculating the height (px)of a textarea with overflow set to auto, regardless of text length within.
