View 1 RepliesI'm designing a one page portfolio site. I was able to make this work when I redid it last year but I'm having problems again. I have a fixed header with the content scrolling underneath it. I want the user to be able to click a link and it eases to that point. I got this script from web designers wall. I am such a novice with jquery I don't know where to begin to make this work. I'm not sure how to call from the link in the header to the element on the page. The thing is, inside the contain div underneath the header I have split it into two columns and i've had to rename the divs, I don't know if this is what is causing the problem. For example, in the navigation it is called "work" but I need to call it to I'm guessing "content-work"?? Also would the fact that the jquery loading in the page from google is 1.7.0 while the script is only written in 1.4.2...does that matter?? If I need to post my css I will.

how do they program the "social sharing" div (you'll see it over on the left side), so that it scrolls until it reaches the top of the viewport, then its fixed until it reaches the footer?

View 2 Replies View Relatedis there a way to rid of the page header (usually it's the page title and url) and the page footer (usually it's the page number and date) without having user to change from the web browser's the page setup ?
Can this be done using javascript or just html meta tags?
Also we control the contents of what is printed from a web page without having to redirect the page? Example, I have three paragraphs on a web page and I don't want the middle paragraph to be printed.
I've been using JavaScript for a few years now I'm not a huge expert I rely more of JQuery. I am just wondering what best solutions are there to call Javascript files (and to make pages load faster):
Normally I request all these in the Header like you normally would but I have seen and heard people to call their Javascript files in the footer to make page load faster and have all their Javascript functions all in the footer as well.
Is this a good idea? What are the downside? Should I just keep all my JS in the Header as usual?
What I would like to do is create header and footer information for my
webpages which are created by calling from a referenced .js page . . . for
example in Header.js:
<script language="JavaScript">
function CreateHeader
{
document.writeln("<table>")
document.writeln("<tr>")
document.writeln("<td>")
document.writeln("Stuff")
document.writeln("</td>")
document.writeln("</tr>")
document.writeln("</table>")
}
</script>
in Index.htm:
<body>
<script type="text/javascript">
onLoad="CreateHeader()"
</script>
</body>
Which would give me in this case a Stuff in a one celled table.
Scrollable table widget with fixed header is there such thing ?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to create a table that has a fixed header but the table contents can be scrolled and also sorted by column headings.I'm already using sortable.js (http://www.surfmind.com/musings/2003/12/01/) library to sort the columns.I can find examples where I can scroll the table with fixed headers, but most of these use a dual table approach, with sortable.js, I think only one table is required. I've found examples how to scroll within a table element using autoflow and scrolling using CSS that I can't follow (I'm new to all of this).How can I get the contents to flow with a single table? Forgive me if it's too easy. If you can help me with a solution, you can ridicule me 'til the cows come home...I'm ok with that. Here is the basic table I have layed out.
<table id="viewKeysetTable" class="sortable">

View 1 Replies View RelatedI wanted to start my research on the topic of slideshows here and ask if anyone knows what's the best method for creating a slideshow that should have the ability to display images and videos (and bookmark them)? It can be a plug-in, but this is for a client so it has to be okay for commercial use (and free).It should also be able to support other content like ads and polls/questionaires, in the form of a div. Also HTML 5 compatible with all the cross-browser compatibility one would expect.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am working on a website that uses a random header. I have been trying to figure out how to adjust the code so that the header also serves as a clickable link.
Here is the code that I have:
What do I need to add in order for the header to also serve as a link? I am completely new to JavaScript and I don't understand it very well.
I read a lot on how to make in Javascript programs in a OOP way. After
I download
many third-party library (like YUI, prototype ecc.) and I have seen
that almost
all the function (class) are designed like literal object notation and
not in a normal
way like I learned ... now I'm confusing
on how to design my classes... I came to a Java/C++ experience ...
It seems that with object literal notation we cannot make all the OOP
constructs
that we can make with normal Javacript class creation constructs... so
why is it so largely used?
I'm using a script to display a floating menu. I don't know how to set an offset for the footer so that it does not go all the way to the bottom. I'd like a 100px margin to the bottom of the screen. Here's my code:

I am having a tough time coming up with a good design for a webpage.
The following is a brief description of what i am trying to achieve.
The requirement is for an insurance company and the goal is to gather
insurance policy information to give its users a quote.
The user can add/edit/delete policies before submitting it and going to
the next step.
Each Policy can have 1 Amount (required) and 0 to 3 fees associated
with it.
At a given time a user can add a maximum of 8 rows.where each
amount/fee is considered a row. So if user enters all rows (1 Amount
and 3 Fees) for the policies then the user can add a maximum of 2
ploicies. On the other hand if the user wants to enter just the Amount
then he can go to 8 policies. I have developed the webpage for this
requirement using layers but there I had to write a lot of code for
that. I am sure there is a better way to handle such a situation and
that is what i am looking for.
I am unable to include the code with this post due to its size. If
anyone is interested in looking at the code i can email it to them.
I need a html Form to accept user's input, and before the user clicks the button "submit", the user also has to select one more option (a Radio Button) to call different JSPs depending upon the user's selection.
For example, if the user selects Radio Button 1, the Submit operation will call X.jsp; if the user selects Radio Button 2, the Submit operation will call Y.jsp and so on.
I was writing my classes in an old fashion until today when I came across a new design pattern. Javascript is not an established OOP like C++ or Java. It doesn't have any easy way to create classes and to make private/public methods or properties as well as class-constructor. But it could be done in many ways.
My old way of OO design in Javascript was like following:
Code:
Those who were trying to write constructor and access public vars from private or vice versa, you would have probably faced some minor difficulties. But it was doable.
Now, the challenge is how can we make things cleaner and better. Here's the procedure I came up with:
Code:

Just wondering what the current size standard is for web-page design ... it used to be 800 x 600 pxls (which seems quite small these days).
View 21 Replies View RelatedI was asked an interesting question today: what is the best design pattern for form validation? This got me thinking. Form validation, on a theoretical level, is pretty simple, you: listen for events from the form, pass inputted data from the form through some validation functions, then react accordingly. I haven't really thought about design patterns on such a macro level. This does seem like a pretty standard mvc setup when I think about it, but is there a better option? Some pattern I haven't though of or heard about?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've got this very simple jquery script for creating a sticky footer below:
$().ready(function() {
[Code]...
This works just fine in most circumstances. However, i'm noticing one significant bug. Lets say I have my website autosaved to a tab. I start the browser and the website automatically loads. When this occurs the above script does not work.Instead the footer appears a 1/3 up the page behind the main content. After the page loads incorrectly if I refresh the browser it then loads properly. All future pages in this browser session will then be ok. Its just the first time the webpage loads when I start-up my browser that I experience this bug.
Firefox - Occurs everytime browser loads IE - Occurs when browser loads if cache has been reset
I'm using this small js to scroll a div, the problem is that it goes all the way to the bottom of the page and overlapping my footer, I need it to stop before the footer. [URL]
$(function () {
var msie6 = $.browser == 'msie' && $.browser.version > 7;
if (!msie6) {
var top = $('#contact').offset().top - parseFloat($('#contact').css('margin-top').replace(/auto/, 0));
$(window).scroll(function (event) {
// what the y position of the scroll is
var y = $(this).scrollTop();
// whether that's below the form
if (y >= top) {
// if so, ad the fixed class
$('#contact').addClass('fixed');
} else {
// otherwise remove it
$('#contact').removeClass('fixed');
}});
}});
