Setting HTML Element's "coordinates"?
Jul 23, 2009
I have some images I'd like to include.This first image is of one of two user input forms. Notice in the top left of the picture, the second tab is selected.The arrow is pointing to the little calendar icon. This icon, when clicked, will display a calendar date-picker tool right beside the icon.To achieve this, I'm using the following code:
calendar = document.getElementById("calendar_popup");
icon = document.getElementById(icon);
//alert(icon.offsetParent.tagName);[code]..........
This works wonderfully in THIS form, as shown below: However, when I go to the tab to the right (3rd from the right of all 3 tabs). I come to another form that's identical to the one shown above. When I click on the calendar icon though, the calendar popup is displayed in the incorrect area.In this case, the popup is covering the calendar button. This will occur all the time between the two. It doesn't matter if one icon is selected prior to the other one.The icons both have different ID to prevent cross-id issues.

Is it possible to have a draggable div that will only be draggable between certain coordinates? in other words create a window through which the draggable div is visible and draggable. Would you use a stop drag when cursor hits a certain point? my div is a map and will be about 2000px by 2000px and want to have a fixed position and size of 500px by 500px so that that is all the user will see or be able to interact with. I know in image slider plugins that the divs scroll to the side or up and down through what appears to be a window so it should be possible?

I have the non-standard element
<testele></testele>
In every browser except IE, this bit of JavaScript will successfully change the content of the above element:
document.getElementsByTagName("testele")[0].innerHTML = 'hi';
However, if I change the <testele> to just a <span> (in the HTML and the JavaScript), it now successfully changes the content of the element in every browser, including IE.

For complex reasons, I have to use HTML with JavaScript to set a cookie. I know it is easy to set and get cookies PHP but I have to put the code in HTML. I ran this Javascript code:
Code:
<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
function putCookie(){
cookie_name = "specialcookiehuge";
if(document.cookie != document.cookie){
index = document.cookie.indexOf(cookie_name);
}else{
index = -1;
}if (index == -1){
document.cookie=cookie_name+"; expires=Monday, 04-Apr-2020 05:00:00 GMT";
}}
</SCRIPT>
I tested this code by placing alert statements and I know that the line:
Code:
document.cookie=cookie_name+"; expires=Monday, 04-Apr-2020 05:00:00 GMT";
gets run. I tried to find this cookie (Tools -> Internet Options -> Browsing History ->Settings) And I did not find anything named "specialcookiehuge" in "View Objects" or "View Files".

n the following script, I am trying to set selection to a select
option element, that is newly created within the script. It works fine
on IE installations on Windows 2000 and some XP machines. But on some
XP machines, the selection doesn't happen and it defaults to the first
element in the options array. Has anybody come across this problem ?
Any known workarounds?

In order to design a custom select element look in my site, I was messing with the css and opacity value to fade the actual select box and put a background image in a div right above the select element. The functionality of the select box is preserved no matter if opacity is set to 0, so I was able to accomkplish my goal.But, that worked for every other browser around except IE6.Is there a please someone there that encountered this problem and possibly knows some kind of workaround?

I am dynamically building a part of my HTML page by setting the innerHTML of a DIV element. Immediately after I do that I try to retrieve the clientHeight and clientWidth of the DIV element in order to determine what height and width the element actually ended up being. But I always get 0 as both the height and width. The contents of the DIV, i.e. the HTML code that I inserted into it via the innerHTML, does indeed get displayed on the page. But I suspect that the browser doesn't actually update the page until AFTER my JavaScript code has completed and "returns control" to the browser.
Does that make sense? Is there any way I can force the browser to update the page BEFORE my code completes its processing, so that I can properly retrieve the width and height of the element I just inserted into the page?

I am using $.post to send an HTTP Post Request to my web page and I receive the generated HTML code within the corresponding callback function. Unfortunately, the browser does not reload the web page automatically to see the changes of the request. For sure, I could use document.window.reloaed() to make them visible, but instead I simply wanna use the returned HTML code to change web page.
I have tried several javascript statements, such as window.childNodes[0].innerHTML = data or window.clear() but nothing works. Then, I saw the option of using $(document).html(data) but this is also not the approriate one.

I'm having some problems understanding the append() function. What I'd like to do is select an element using it's ID and add a row to the table with a HTML form element. The table is dynamically generated using a Django template ( form.as_table() ) so I'm not able to alter the original HTML markup too much.
If I had a table like this...

.change() is only for form elements minus check boxes/radio buttons, etc.Are any of you aware of a script that does this already? Hopefully one that is easy to implement.I just want to monitor things like height, number of inner elements, or any change in the inner HTML.

EDIT: After some more testing, the After method seems to strip out any closing elements not yet opened (</div>) and automatically closes any elements opened but not closed (<div class="subMenu">). Anyone know of a way to stop this from happening?

I am creating a <select> with options, and I want to include such html entities as the Ohm/Omega symbol (Ω)When I say
$select.append($("<option>").text("Ω"));
it leaves that as plain text instead of turing it into the Ohm symbol -- specifically, it turns the & into an &, so that the rest of it doesn't get resolved.
