I am working with a activeX widget that has a method that produces an image which is saved to a users local machine. All the method requires is the path on the local machine. I need to obtain this path (hopefully utilizing a "save as" file dialog) and store its value to a variable so I can pass it to the method. It does work with an input type="file" but they are branded for file uploads an dit is a little misleading and confusing for the user.

I'm using a script to include images into a slide show using direct URLs to the image files, but I am using fckeditor (PHP) for my users to edit their content. The script in the .js file that pulls the images into the slide show.The user's image file is going to be named something like, "userImage01.php". Inside that file would be their image location path ~ "images/user/image1.jpg".Therefore, I need the above javascript to pull-in "userImage01.php" INSTEAD OF the image's location path.
I have a js file embedded into additional files to make up the extension.
I want to run a single executable file, but I can't figure out what the relative path is. The path must remain relative, because the user will set the directory.

In my site I show low quality pictures. When someone right clicks an image and selects 'Save Picture As...', I wish to let him save the high quality picture.
I have a confirmation page, we would like to have a SAVE button option for our customer to save the page, is it possible to SAVE only the message or page, not for the entire site?

What I'm trying to do is have a 'Save As' dialog box pop up when I click an anchor tag.What's hidden in the anchor tag is base64 information, so my anchors look like this:
So when I click on this, it gives me the option of downloading my base64 info just fine, but the problem is, the name of it looks to be just the entire base64 string. I was wondering if there was a way I could set this name? I can get the file name, so I'd love to just put 'blah.jpg' as the name that the user downloads.The reason I'm asking is because when I download the file, it comes out as (random characters).bin.part, and if I know the download is a pdf, I try opening it with a pdf viewer, but get yelled at by the MIME type... however, if I simply change '.bin.part' to '.pdf', I can open the file just fine, so I'd love for an automatic naming system, but not sure how to implement that.I've tried the document.execCommand('saveAs', '1', '<filename here>'), but I think this is for an actual file that you serve from the server... I don't have the actual file, just the base64.
Now lets assume that the text itself contains characters outside of the normal ISO-8859-1 character set (like asian or russian characters). Would the individual char values be stored as one byte or two bytes?
"hello" -> 5 * 1 bytes = 5 (normal 8859 character sets) "hello" -> 5 * 2 bytes = 10 (unicode or an extended character set size).
Is ISO-8859-1 still stored like ASCII once was as 8 bits? Or is it 16? If I was to use a 2 byte character set then would that cut the size of my allocated local storage space by half?
I'm trying to put in place a file upload validation check. So at the client-side, the User selects a file. Before uploading, at the GUI, if the file exceeds an imposed limit, it will prompt the User that it exceeds the permitted size for upload.
And if it is within the permitted size, the full file path of the file to be uploaded will then be obtained and then used for the actual upload to the Server.
My program is built on EXTJS and Java, running using Tomcat. Browser restricted to Internet Explorer 7 only.
I have one html-file where the user inserts a search path for an excel file. When the user clicks the button the data in the excel file should be presented in a <TABLE>. (Yeah, I know, activex only works in IE .. but that's good enough for this project)
The problem is .. I started out with a "fixed" search path for the excel file, so I didn't have the code in a function. That worked just fine. Once I added the function {} around the code it wouldn't work, it works just fine if I comment out the form-part and the function-part, and give the search path, of course. It also works just fine if I use the function and form, but remove the <TABLE>- and <TR>-rows
I use NETSCAPE established a catalog page in XML, which uses Javascript-DOM to add, remove and sort the products by their prices. But which Javascript function should I use in order to save the modified page into local hard disk? to sort products as well.
I'm trying to get the full path of a file with a file uploader form with FF. I see HTML5 permits this but I cannot find any concrete examples to access this value from a normal html file uploader form.
I want to be able to do is to have a button that when the user clicks on it, it will open a "save as" dialog box so they can save a file (a separate file, not the html one that they are looking at) from my server. Is this really not possible using javascript, or am I just completely confused again?

When download.htm file executes, it shoud set the path to the download file as the path for my data file and then opens the save as dialog box when user can then select storage location.
I am using ASP.net and javascript. Presently I have a link on the web page, which opens an image....if the user wants to save it , he has to right click the image and then save it. But,I don't want the user to right-click and choose the option "Save Picture As" or "Save Image" of the browser. Instead I want the user to click a link or button that is displayed just under the image. After clicking the link/button, the user should be able to save the image in his/her local hard disk/machine in a particular folder or just under C: or bringing up the file directory dialog box where the user can save in his/her own folder.

If I switch the w3schools' file with the same local file, it will not work with firefox.Does anybody know why the local file is not displayed correctly?
I have a .js file, we want to make it to load a html file right next to it, both files are on client system. I couldn't find any such examples and some posts talked about JavaScript security issues, I wonder if it is related to what I want.
Someone said .js file is not really JaveScript file, though Microsoft named it 'JavaScript'.
note that I am trying to "call" .html file from the .js file, not embed html code in .js.
Now blah .jsp is included INSIDE index.jsp. In blah.jsp I have a button that calls a function inside b.js. In index.jsp I have following code inside head tags:
and I figured since blah.jsp is included inside index.jsp, I should be able to access the javascript methods with ease. But its not happening that way. I get an error (object expected in the line that has button in it). BTW, its not a problem in my JS or JSP code, because if I put the js file's contents inside blah.jsp, then it works like a charm!
So what am I doing wrong?
