Randomly Generated Colors - Create A Button With The Name Of The Color It Is Going To Turn The Background To
Sep 28, 2011
Alright so for a school assignment I need to create a button with the name of the color it is going to turn the background to. the assignment says nothing about naming the buttons the hex numbers for the color therefore: I was curious if someone could show me how to create a button in java script that would generate a random hex number for a color ie: #+()+()+()+()+()+() and the text shown on the button would be the same as the hex number generated.

I want to have <div> cells that the background-color css style dynamically change between 4 colors depending on how many times they are clicked. The options are none, yellow, red and green then repeat. So when the page loads, they are all at none, and if you click once it goes to green, twice to yellow, three times to red, then back to none.

I'm using a javascript to alternate table rows and it works fine by table id, and on the first loop. This is all inside a conditional, in which the table tag is repeated.
On the second and subsequent loops, the alternating row color fails because there can only be one unique id call to a page. Right?
What's the script that will allow unlimited reiterations of tables with alternating row colors, using class?

I am trying to do the following.
While the background color of a div is changing when i click on a button, the image in the other div must change.
Now i have placed a bg image in a div and when i click on my menu link it changes so that works, but i would love to give it a transition, but is that even possible with the background image.
Or do i need to write some other code?
The colors and images change, but really would love a bounce in transition, cant figure it out though maybe it would be better with a list and placing the images just in the slider div?

I'm trying to create a cell in a table which changes color depending which radio button is checked.
I found the following code which works for different cells but it doesn't work when the buttons are in the same cell. Think you'll see what i mean. I'm not too hot when it comes to Javascript though so i don't know how to adapt what I've got so far. Code:

I'm trying to make buttons that change from one color to another when you click them and change back when you click them a third time. I wrote this page (http://cf.lehigh.edu/ems/test.html) but it only works on Firefox(Not IE or Chome, untested on safari or Opera). I'm using javascript to change the button colors. Is there another way to do this that works universal or another tool such as CSS?

I am currently successfully using the following code to randomly change the color of specified text ("quotations" - see below) each time the page is reloaded. The only problem is that the colors are too random. Instead of the code I now have, I'm looking for code that would allow me to define a distinct list of colors through which the text would randomly rotate each time the page loads. In other words, I want to choose each of the randomly loaded colors of my text.
<html><head>
<script type="text/javascript">
var quotations = new Array()
quotations[1]= "text1"
quotations[2]= "text2"
quotations[3]= "text3"
quotations[4]= "text4"
quotations[5]= "text5"
function display(){
a=Math.floor(Math.random()*quotations.length)
document.getElementById('quotation').innerHTML=quotations[a]
setTimeout("display()",500000) .....
}
</script>
<script language="Javascript">
function rancolour(){
var red = Math.floor(Math.random() * 255);
var green = Math.floor(Math.random() * 255);
var blue = Math.floor(Math.random() * 255);
document.all.main.style.color = 'rgb('+red+','+green+','+blue+')';
}
</script>
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="/style.css">
</head><body>
<body onLoad="rancolour();">
<div id="main" style="color:#FF0062">
<div id="quotation"><SCRIPT type="text/javascript">display()</SCRIPT></div>
<form onchange="display(this.value)">
<input type="submit" id="style3" value="M O R E" />
</form></div></div></body></html>

I have a form which displays correctly in FireFox. In IE, 2 of the 3 fields appear with a pale yellow (#FCFEA4) background color. Why is this, and how can I fix it?
There is only 1 style sheet, and everything else conforms to the sheet. Remember: this problem is in IE, not FireFox. My task is to make it render correctly in IE.

Out of pure curiosity: Assuming tabulated data in HTML is being generated by a PHP script, would it be better to alternate each row's background color with PHP or rely on JS to do it? One is run client-side and the other server-side so my guess you have to take the whole web app as a whole and see which side should be spared the additional workload. Is it situational or is there an absolute rule? In a vacuum, I guess you could argue PHP would be better since it cannot be turned off in the way JS can (unless plugins like NoScript can block PHP as well), but I don't have enough experience with either to be sure.

I seem to be having a slight problem.
Code:
<script type="text/javascript">
<!--
document.bgColor='#33CCFF';
var x = 300;
while (x < 1500)
[Code]...
Basically, this makes the background flicker for a brief second. Great. However, if I set a background color using CSS (so the page isn't white if javascript is turned off) the flicker won't work.

have been trying to rework this to call additional, independent sets of colors to cycle through (so it would loop thru a set of grays, a set of primary colors, etc). I would use perhaps a different function name in the HTML to call different sets of colors. If this is more complex than I think it is, I think 3 sets would be plenty. demo link of script in current state at bottom)

<script language=javascript>
colors = ["#cacdca", "#b2b4b2", "#969896", "#7d7f7d", "#ffff00"];

I have a form which contains FOUR text fields (e.g. TEXTFIELD1, TEXTFIELD2, TEXTFIELD3 & TEXTFIELD4). Each text field holds a HEX,DEC color value. ABOVE this form I have a table with TWO ROWS (ROW1 and ROW2). ROW1 should correspond with TEXTFIELD1, so that when the VALUE in TEXTFEILD1 is changed the background color of ROW1 will change to match the HEX,DEC VALUE entered in TEXTFIELD1. The same would happen with TEXTFIELD2 and ROW2. TEXTFIELD3 should be used to change the color of the TEXT inside ROW1 and TEXTFIELD4 should change the color of the TEXT in ROW2. I also wanted to know if it would be possible to achieve this without clicking any button.

| ROW2 | TEXT IN ROW 2

I'm trying to create an unordered list dynamically and then turn it into jQuery UI tabs... I think I'm having problem with syntax here, I managed to create the list and turn it into the widget, but those tabs don't look right, they have the outline of the widget but the content doesn't have actual tabs, so my guess is it only 'kind of worked'
$

"#doc3"
).
append

is this the way to do it? (for now its just the test, eventually i want to use for loop to create the list and pull data from an array)

I'm having some trouble with my dynamically generated form fields.
As you can see I'm generating new form fields, but the problem lies within the grade field. I have it set up now so that when you change the grade the color of the <select> box changes relative to the grade. A-D are green, F is black with white text, Not Taken is just regular white with black text and In Progress is lightly shaded grey.
I want it so that each one can be changed individually, but I can't seem to be able to figure out how to do that. Heck if you change the first one's grade field, that colour follows the rest of the clones.
This is the jQuery I'm using to change the color of the thing.
$("select").change(function()
{
$(this).each(function () {
