I am trying to find a script that basically does the following:
-I have a list of quotes
-A script that chooses one by random
-The quote fades in (through opacity). Is displayed for 10 seconds then fades out.
-Repeats by selecting a new random quote.
For my website I would like to create a famous last words generator (randomized), and random page generator (within my site). What is the code for random quotes and random links?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am new to javascript but have been using java for quite a while. I am looking to make a random quote (out of ten possible quotes) appear in my h2 tag in a page i am working on. In java, i would make a random number generator, in javascript it looks like this:

This little snippet of code produces random quotes but sometimes gives a missing quote between two quote marks.

I got stuck in getting this to work (show random element of the array as a link with description)

The whole thing started when we decided it would be neat if the web page looked slightly different everytime you visited.The functionality I'm looking for will fade the CSS associated to the html body tag. The tiled background image in particular. I have over 50 seamless tile background images of various dimensions stored in my default image folder. I'm hoping to find some script that will select and display one of the images at random and then fade to a new one every 10 or 20 seconds.It might work if I had some script that replaced the background attribute of the body tag with an animation.. selecting from an array of image paths?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to use jQuery to produce something similar to this flash example [url]although I'd like the effect to be somewhat more controlled.
In a nutshell, what I'm trying to achieve is a 3 x 4 grid of (12) images which appears to load in a random order and then 1 by 1 (again in random order) fade out to be replaced by another image. I'd like the effect to be quite subtle, smooth and calming with the timing between image fades to be fairly even.
All images would be pulled from a folder on my webserver. I don't want the same image to be visible more than once at any time, although I don't mind repeating images as long as they're not already in the grid - hopefully that makes sense?
Ideally I'd like only one image to be changing at any given time with a pause before the next image starts to fade into new image.
The way I've been trying to tackle this so far is to use 12 different instances of a jquery image fade laid out in a CSS grid.
There are a few problems with my approach so far;
Doesn't appear random
Timing - multiple squares change at same time. (I only want one image to change at a time)
Same image often repeated at same time within grid
Its not long before a pattern emerges and you can tell which image will change next.
I'm sure this must be possibly, but my math or scripting skills aren't quite there yet.

I have a problem of escaping quotes in javascript.
Ex:

both gives me an error. How would I escape this?
how does document.write interpret "" and '' (double quotes and single quotes).what is the significance of &Url (does it signify the current url) colon : is it represented as %3A ? and backslash represented as %2F ?

I have a gallery style page with rectangular images on laid out like a grid of nine. When the user looks at the page there is just the images and no information, but when they hover over the image I would like some text and a bar underneath to show up over the top so the user can read some information.my images sit in "a" tags. There is also a div tag in there which has it's z-index and position (absolute) set up so that it sits over the top of the image element in the "a" tag. stripped down e.g.

I need the div tag withinin the "a" tag to be set to 0 opacity. When the user hovers over the image the div tag slowly fades in to 100% opacity. Once the user moves the mouse away from the image the div tag slowly disappears again.I need each one to work independently so that it only changes the one currently being hovered over.

I'm having problems with my text appearing aliased and turning blue when it fades in and out. I've tried using the Newsticker plugin and the Easyticker plugin, and I'm getting the same result in IE7 and Firefox 3.6. I'm using jQuery 1.2.6-min Specifying a background color doesn't fix it. The examples on the plugin websites look fine, but when I try and implement the effect myself, my orange text becomes aliased and fades to a light blue color before dipping to white. Same thing happens on the fade in. attached is a screenshot of what I'm seeing.

I'm trying to use Javascript to have an array of images that load randomly AND work in a slideshow manner so change every 3 seconds (in a logical order). The code I have below presents a random image but how do I get them to continue from the random image and change to the next every 3 seconds?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've looked for a solution to this issue, but it seems like a little different scenario than other situations. I made a system for generating friend requests on Facebook. I have a grid that is 6 x 3, for a total of 18 cells. Each cell has a picture in it, and the picture is linked to the Facebook friend request page. My problem is that since each cell is populated at random from the array, I'm getting lots of repeats. For example, some picutures are in 5 cells, and some are in none. I'm trying to figure out how to make it so that once a picture is used once in the grid, it does not get used again in the same grid.I still want every cell filled at random on each page load, I just want to prevent the repeating.

I'm having some problem trying to escape single quotes. basically, I got some text on the database. if text contains double or single quotes, these are replaced with " and ' respectively. I'm using PHP to alert a portion of the text, let's say "hello, y'all!", this way:

well, the js code breaks, just as if ''' were converted to the 'single quote' character. how so?

could it not be just written like this:

Simple question really. The cross fade option used by default with cycle is not a linear one...it looks like it uses some kind of S curve because during the crossfade animation the background (meaning the area behind the images being cross-faded) becomes visible. Example screenshot taken mid-transition. The pink should never be visible behind the grey, but it is:
