I want to create an associative array dynamically pulling the index values from an array (propertyArray); Associative array is created inside create function and then returned. But after it is returned, I cant use index names to retrieve values. It returns undefined as below code shows.
Code JavaScript:
var propertyArray=["a","b","c"];
function create(){
var array=[];

I have this software that returns an array like this:
[{"Id":148,"Text":"excellent","Percentage":18},{"Id":166,"Text":"good","Percentage":25},{"Id":167,"Te xt":"fair","Percentage":30},{"Id":168,"Text":"poor","Percentage":25}]
How can I go about turning it into an array that looks like this (just the last integers)?
[18,25,30,25]
I have an array containing 100 different values. How would I randomly pick 25 of them for display? For now I do: for (var i=0; i<markers.length && i<25; i++) {
html += markers[i].name + '<br />';
}
Which of course returns 25 values but always in the same order which is not what I want. PS. My array could also contain only 20 values, in which case I would like the function to display the 20 values randomly sorted.
I am creating a template generator page that generates a webpage based on what I fill in for certain elements like image name, img src, book title, book author, etc. and these values are sent to me in an excel document which right now I just open and copy and paste everything from the excel document into the form fields for each section.So for example the client sends over a list of book titles they want featured on the page this week and they include author name, author link, book name, book url, img src, etc. and I just copy those new fields into my template and then click generate and the updated HTML code is there for me to copy.
This part works totally fine but in the interest of saving time copying upwards of 100 fields from an Excel file into my template, is there a way I can select the excel file (stored locally) on my page with a "browse" directory form and then have a button that runs SQL queries on my Excel document to pull these updated titles, images, etc into my form fields dynamically?Do I need to utilize server technology for this or is there a simple script that when I click a button, will look at whatever excel file I have selected and say "grab this row at this column"?What is the best way to do this?'m relatively a noob when it comes to this stuff but I do know javavscript and SQL pretty well.
I have a form with 3 <select> items in it.Each one is to allow only 1 item to be selectedThese are the variables for mySQL query through PHP. I have a js file that is called when one of the select elements changes.I want the .js file to pull the value of all 3 of the select elements even if its blank.I can handle the error checking in php, i just don't know JS.This is simple html for the select item(s) each is named different but similar syntax.
Code:
<form name="viewData" class="shifty" >
<label>Select a month for Points Awards:</label>

I should warn, i know almost nothing about javascript. i've been trying read sample scripts and examples on how to modify this script; but I just don't know enough. I have a script that pulls data from an array, and copies it directly to the clipboard when a user clicks on it. The problem is this only works in IE, because Firefox doesn't by default allow that to happen. I'm trying to change it so that when it is clicked, instead, it takes what was going to be copied to the clipboard, and puts it in a Prompt box for the user to copy and paste. I had other scripts that do that, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to learn from it!

I've looked for a solution to this issue, but it seems like a little different scenario than other situations. I made a system for generating friend requests on Facebook. I have a grid that is 6 x 3, for a total of 18 cells. Each cell has a picture in it, and the picture is linked to the Facebook friend request page. My problem is that since each cell is populated at random from the array, I'm getting lots of repeats. For example, some picutures are in 5 cells, and some are in none. I'm trying to figure out how to make it so that once a picture is used once in the grid, it does not get used again in the same grid.I still want every cell filled at random on each page load, I just want to prevent the repeating.
Here's my current code:
<script type="text/javascript">
var vip_list=new Array(
new Array('http://profile.ak.fbcdn.net/v225/1616/88/s1220771654_2158.jpg','http://www.facebook.com/addfriend.php?id=1220771654'),
new Array('http://profile.ak.fbcdn.net/v223/1233/29/s904885342_9055.jpg','http://www.facebook.com/addfriend.php?id=904885342'),

I'd like to reorganize the third, fourth, fifth and sixth, as well as any
elements thereafter in an array in random order:
var a = new Array('first','second','third','fourth','fifth','s ixth','etc')
In other words, the first, second and third element should remain in
position 0, 1 and 2, while the fourth, fifth and sixth, etc. should appear
in random order.
function read()
{
var numbers = new Array();
for (i = 0; i < field.length; i++)
numbers[i] = document.test.checkboxName.value;
var counter=0;
[Code]...
I want to read the values of the checkboxs and store the vlaues into an array (there are more than 1 checkboxs) the form name is text and the names of the check box = checkboxname
This one is throwing me off! Either I am making a stupid mistake or I'm doing it totally wrong I have an array, and I am trying to select unique values from it and assign it to another array. Here is the code:
Code:
var flag;
for (i=0;i<=pdfs.length-1;i++)
{
flag = 1;
for (j=0;j<=pdfs2.length-1;j++)
[Code]...
The problem is that the if (pdfs2[j] == pdfs[i]) statement ends up never being true. There are URL's to pdf files in the array. On the other side, if there is a much easier way to select unique values from an array, please feel free to point it out.

I new to javascript. I want to generate 50 random numbers between 1 and 500 and store in a database. Is there a way to do it using javascript and SQL?

I am learning Javascript from this book I got, and I am trying to do one of the "challenges" in the Hangman example, and that is to add on more 8 letter words to it and have it select by random. I am assuming that it's asking me to do this with arrays, but I have no idea how to implement that on this while having it select randomly.

So, I am attempting to select a random entry from an array, and then make it so that particular entry will not be selected again until every entry has been selected. Basically, I don't want to see any of the same entries, until all of the entries in the array have been selected.
So if this were my array....
keywords =
[
"ppc",
"games",
[Code]....
since meta was selected a second time before everything had been selected once.
I would like to see something more like
meta, advertise, gaming,ppc, welcome, home, games, advertise, ppc, since this did not select any entry multiple times before every entry had been randomly selected.( the second loop started at the second "advertise" in case you didn't catch the differences.
But as you can see from the code that I have posted above, I do not know how to do this. I have seen examples where the entries that were randomly selected, were actually deleted from the array entirely but this is not what I want to do. I just want every entry to be selected once, and then for the process to be restarted.
does anyone know how to scramble the "box#" in the codes below? Ultimately, I want the checkboxes to be in different order each time I access the web page?
<script lanugage="javascript">
function countChoices(obj) {
max = 3; // max. number allowed at a time
box1 = obj.form.box1.checked; // your checkboxes here
box2 = obj.form.box2.checked;
box3 = obj.form.box3.checked; // add more if necessary
box4 = obj.form.box4.checked;
box5 = obj.form.box5.checked;
count = (box1 ? 1 : 0) + (box2 ? 1 : 0) + (box3 ? 1 : 0) + (box4 ? 1 : 0) + (box5 ? 1 : 0);
if (count > max) {
alert("You can only choose " + max + " of the 5 nominees.");
obj.checked = false;
}
}
</script>
<form>
<input type=checkbox name=box1 onClick="countChoices(this)"> Homer Simpsons <p>
<input type=checkbox name=box2 onClick="countChoices(this)"> Ground's Keeper Willie <p>
<input type=checkbox name=box3 onClick="countChoices(this)"> Mr. Burns <p>
<input type=checkbox name=box4 onClick="countChoices(this)"> Barney <p>
<input type=checkbox name=box5 onClick="countChoices(this)"> Chief Wiggum<p>

I'm creating a tool which will who a random image every time I press a button, when the image is clicked it will open a new tab which will show a website. I can tell you I've succeeded in all this, but I was wondering if there is any way in which I can let my "generator" show 1 standard image at first, and if this is even possible never show that image after it has been showed. The image will explain that the you have to press the button to go to the next image.The Code:
<script language="JavaScript">
images = new Array(4);
images[0] = "<a href = 'URL' target='name' onclick='window.open ('URL')' ><img src='img1.jpg' alt='tag'></a>";

I have a quick question with multiple array and random numbers. If i generate my random numbers in one array, how would i take a selection of those numbers and put them in another array?
Ex: array 1: 25, 34, 38, 40, 22, 49
Want to move numbers between 30 and 50 to another array.
array 2: 34, 38, 40, 49
Is it as simple as for loops and if statements setting the conditions? do i use a sorting method? (selection? bubble?)
My array contains 15 value I want to random pick 5 value:

How to random pick from all elements with no repeat of the same content. e.g. if myArray[0] is picked then myArray[12] will not be picked again. (because they have the same value "a")
I am taking a Javascript class and the teacher assigned this: Quote: Write a script that uses a random number generation to create sentences and name it sentences.html. Use five arrays of strings called: uppercase article (uarticle), noun, verb, lowercase article (larticle), and preposition. You will need to use the correct case for the article arrays. Create a sentence by selecting a word at random from each array in the following order: uarticle, noun, verb, preposition, larticle, noun. You can find examples of generating random numbers in both Fig. 8.6 (dice-rolling) and Fig. 8.7 (random image) of Chapter 8.
The arrays should be filled at minimum, as follows: the article array(s) should contain the articles: the, a, one, some and any. The noun array should contain the nouns: boy, girl, dog, town and car. The verb array should contain the verbs: drove, jumped, ran, walked, and skipped. The preposition array should contain the prepositions: to, from, over, under and on. If you would like to add more words, adjust the arrays appropriately.

I'm using the autofill forms plugin for firefox which can be found here: [URL]. I use it to automatically fill various web forms. But I would like certain values to be chosen randomly from a list I create. I contacted the developer and he said the add on probably does not need a new feature because there is a 'dynamic tags' function to fill certain forms with dynamic values (e.g. the current time or date). He has given over the project to another developer and told me I probably would find a solution in a good javascript programming forum.
Basically, I just need a javascript code which chooses on item from an array randomly, I guess? Here are sample dynamic tags from the plugin:
<datetime> new Date().toLocaleString()
<useragent> navigator.userAgent
<langcode> navigator.language
<resolution> screen.width+'x'+screen.height
<clipboard> this.getClipboardText()
