Open Post Data How To Keep Text Formatting?

Apr 19, 2011

im sure this will be pretty simple, at the moment i have some code which sends text from a textarea to a php file, the php file then stores the data into a database.the javascript post is as follows:

var text = document.getElementById(area).value;
http.open('post', 'autosave.php?text='+text);

there is a little bit more to this(just a handle response).My issue is that when the data is passed through javascript newlines and breaks disappear, so when i call the saved data it is presented as one long string with no formatting.i tried the nl2br() function and htmlspecialchars() function in the php file that the javascript passes the data to, this made no difference. I then tried to replace /n with <br /> in the javascript before passing the text variable again this made no differnce.

Submit Via Post With Multiple Text Links

May 27, 2005

I know how to submit via a text link, using document.frmname.submit(), but you can not attach a value to the A tag, so you can't have several submit links within one form.

I need to do this however! I want to have several text links within one form - submitting to the actionpage, and based on the value of the submit, it will do something different.

Ok, so I know I can do this without problems using the input tag and submit buttons, or I could use seperate form tags for each link, but that would mean a lot of repeating code, and I want to make this as compact as possible.

XHR POST Size Limit - Transmit Text Information For Page To A PHP Script

Jun 18, 2010

I have a problem with XHR size limit. I want to transmit text information for page to a PHP script which saves it in a MySQL database but the data are cut off. When I reload the page the changes I made are gone. Firebug produces the following message:

... Firebug request size limit has been reached by Firebug. ...

This is my XHR function:

My question is: Is there a size limit in XHR POST requests? If yes how to disable it or is a browser issue?

Text Element In Form Created With CreateElement Can't Pass Post Variable?

Nov 16, 2011

My code is this:

Code:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">
<html lang="EN" dir="ltr" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head>

[Code]...

In a few words it creates a button which when it is clicked it launches the add_text script. Add text script creates a text element for a form and puts a random value for the textbox. Textbox also takes a name which is of array type name="txt[]". Also form has the post method.

When I press e.g. 4 times the add text field button 4 text boxes are added. But when I click the submit button I get a result of 1 instead of 4 when the print count($txt) is executed. Copy paste the code to see the problem.

When I do as the following, it becomes a GET action to the the server. How
do I make it as a POST action? That means I don't want the string after "?"
show on URL bar and, to the server, it can follow POST function to get the
data passed in.

window.open("../../Server.php?"+xsValue, "", zNONHTML_STYLE);

GET Vs POST

Jul 20, 2005

I'm still quite unclear as to what exactly the difference between METHOD=GET
and METHOD=POST is for forms, even after looking in several books an on the
web. I'd appreciate any clarifications you could give me.

I'm in a situation where I'd like to pass the elements of a Javascript date
separately (year, month, date, hour, minute, second) to a CGI. If I were to
store these values in a hidden form and at some point submit that form, would
I want the method for that form to be GET or POST?

Auto Fill Text Box When Text Entered Into Another Text Box?

Oct 12, 2010

I have a form with 9 text fields and a text area. What I want to do is replace the text in the text area depending on how many fields contain text. For example my text boxes are named 1 to 9, if the user enters text in the first five boxes I want the text area to auto fill with 'you have selected boxes 1 to 5' if the user selects all nine it will say 'you have selected 1 to 9', therefore, the user must complete the text boxes in order. I have it working with an onchange event but i have a button on the form to also auto fill the text boxes and it does not work if this is clicked

As of right now I have a code that will work in IE but wont work in FireFox...go figure. Basically what I want to have happen is when you type in an area code it will provide an output in a predetermined area of the page.

For Example:
Input- 512
Output - Austin, TX

The code that I have doesn't work with firefox and I was just wondering if there was a code that would allow that to happen.

Using Post Method Instead Of Get

Dec 2, 2011

I have a spot where users can create posts. When you scroll over, a button pops up that says "reply". When you click reply it adds a form to the div that allows you to reply to the post. That all works great. Now I read something a long time ago that say's URL's are limited to 256(?) chars so I'm figuring between the variables and the potential for a long reply, I should be using the POST method on my form. When the user submits the reply, I want to use a jscript to update the div and add the reply but I'm not sure how to use post instead of get for this -- or even if I can.

Here's what I have

1. Create the reply form in the div -- this works great

2. This is the function I'm trying to create to call the php script, update the db then repopulate the div on the page with the post and the new reply. I don't know if I can change "GET" to "POST" or if I should be looking at some diff functions?
