Pause Gif Animation - Swap - Without Button
Apr 13, 2011
I was looking for a way to pause animated gifs per command, and I found a thread in this forum with the appropriate instruction: [url]
I used the code example from there and adjusted it to my needs on my website: [url]
The code works as it should! (The button is in the top-left corner)
But there are 2 things I would want to improve. Unfortunately I can't fix them myself.
1) I don't want to use a button for pausing the gifs. Instead, I want the gifs to pause when <img id="tiles-img" ...> is clicked.
So what I tried is to replace the line obj=document.getElementById('button'); with obj=document.getElementById('tiles-img');
But then, it doesn't work anymore. Why?
2) The button only starts working from the 2nd click on? (No gif pausing at 1st click)

I have a simple slideshow script that I would like to add a play and pause button to. How can I do this?
I eventually would like to also add a rewind and fast forward button or timeline bar but I thought I would start small.
Here is my slideshow code so far.

I am using strobe media playback. Is there any way I can communicate to flash object using javascript?

you have two buttons, each of them links to different pages and is represented by an image (a button of course). When one button is clicked i want it to become active (so as to call this different image of the same button active i.e. with another color) and the other to swicht to its image inactive. Here is this simple script i managed to put together:
var interneti=true;
function swapimage(interneti)
{
if (interneti){
this.location.href = "telefoni.html";
document.images['internet'].src ="a_files/FirstNonActiveButton.jpg" ;
document.images['telefoni'].src = "a_files/SecondActiveButon.jpg";
[Code]....
Now, what happens is that the change of images that represent the buttons takes place only before the page it links to is loaded. Afterwards it seems like the page is reset. The buttons are in the header module called from every page in my site. I cannot understand how to make it possible that the document.images['internet'].src ="a_files/FirstNonActiveButton.jpg" ; happens in the page called.

I load a page with two default images and two radio buttons not selected. When either of the radio buttons gets checked I need to swap corresponding image. I tried this but it does not seem to work:
PHP Code:
<html>

<title>Untitled</title>
<script language="JavaScript">
function swapImage(currencyflag) {
switch (aspectflag) {
case "3x2":
3:2.src = "/i/misc/aspect3x2_rd.png";
16:9.src = "/i/misc/aspect16:9_gr.png";
case "16:9":
3:2.src = "/i/misc/aspect3x2_gr.png";
16:9.src = "/i/misc/aspect16:9_rd.png";
}}
</script>
</head>
<body>
<img src="/i/aspect3x2_gr.png" width="150" height="100" alt="" name="2x3">

Is it possible to disable a $.toggle() controlled button (image) during an animation? (I animate up and down a DIV playing with z-index, and when I click on the button when it's animating, the DIV slides down incorrectly...) Or may I use click events and bind / unbind button when it's needed?

The animation that I envision coding with jQuery has proven too advanced for me at the moment. Might anyone know of an example that would help me achieve the below (simplified to the barest minimum to make sense):
I'm building a page that is split into two halves... the left half has six radio button choices: blue, red, green, yellow, purple, and black. The right half is empty. When a radio button is selected in the left half (for this example, I'll say "blue" is selected), I'd like a blue square to bounce (jQuery UI "easeInBounce") into a specified area on the right half. Then, if "green" is selected... the blue square that was already on the right half would fade out (jQuery "fadeOut") and then I'd like a blue square to bounce (jQuery UI "easeInBounce") into the same specified area on the right half.
Might anyone know of a demo that would allow me to code this? The demo can be similar (using different animations), but I'd like to see how it uses radio buttons to control an animation, and to check to see if there is already a target in existence... which would make the "fadeOut" necessary.

one could add a 'start' & 'stop' (id="stopit") button to control the simple sprite animation. My Javascript looks like this (note that it works in tandem with the core.js that comes with the book; see the ZIP file i've attached):
Code:
var Robot =
{
init: function() // initiate via core.js
{
[Code]....
clicking on the 'start' button more than once speeds up the animation, more with each successive click. Clicking the 'stop' button will only finally stop the animation if it's done the same number of times as the 'start' button was clicked.

I have a javascript animation built with animate(). Whenever the page is reloaded, it is playing correctly, the problem is when the user navigates away from that page and the presses the Back button to go back to the previous page with the animation. The animation does not play again, it just shows the last state (probably because it's cached/in history?). Is there any way to restart the animation after the user presses the Back button?

Trying to click (onClick) an animated gif image of an on/off switch to start a second animation which is located on a different location on the web-page (a 7-frame animation of a generator with moving parts) immediately followed by a random image selection function placing an image in a 3rd location on the page (next to the generator image). The random images are supposed to look like the result of the generator animation---the item that pops out of the generator.
We thought the process to achieve this would be an OnClick on the on/off switch-animated-gif to start two javascript functions (generato animation function & random image function). To further complicate matters, we are doing this website in iWeb. Were using iWeb SEO Tool to add the javascript to the header and HTML snippet in iWeb to place the HTML code. Not sure were actually doing the snippet right though---is it supposed to relate to the images---or is it separate? When the gifs are place on the iweb page, they work in the browser upon page load---the on-click & the random image function are NOT working...so we know weve done something(s) wrong.
Were thinking that were probably missing some code that describes where the 3 different image-spots are on the page (image #1 is the on/off switch gif, image#2 is the generator gif, image#3 is the generator output.png)....or just arent coding the string of functions correctly---or maybe our strategy for achieving this is just no correct (?).Here is the code we have tried that didnt work.
[CODE]
script language = JAVASCRIPT>
<!-- Hide script from old browsers
function gif_animation(){

there is some kind of flash rotator on the home page. This is my code attempt to move between preloaded swf animations using javascript. I've tried giving id of the object or embed but this won't help. Of course this is not that simple and the code isn't working. My intent is to have animation change when clicking the next button.

I've been messing with this code to make a fade in animation with setTimout. The only thing is addition isn't working on the fade in. A subtraction on a negative works though. This seems strange to me.
changeit.style.opacity -= -0.01; works but when it's changed to changeit.style.opacity += 0.01; there's no fade in. It's the only thing I change. My intuition says to me it should work with addition, but maybe there's something I'm not understanding.
<html>
changeit.style.opacity -= -0.01; if this is set to changeit.style.opacity += 0.01; it doesn't work. What?
Of course this is all just for Firefox for now. If I put this in something useful I'll change it so it'll work in other browsers later.

I've noticed a subtle yet cool feature in Safari and I'm wondering how
they did it. If you go to YouTube and open one of the videos in a new
tab (Command-click), the page will load in the new tab but the video
won't start loading or playing. Then if you click on the tab, the video
will start playing and loading. If you immediately click back to
another tab, the video will continue loading but will stop playing.
It seems pretty clear how Safari could stop the flash animation from
loading the first time, but how does it distinguish between preloading
activity and video-playing activity when you switch back to the other
tab? Is it possible to emulate this by interacting with the flash
animation with javascript?
I only have limited experience with Flash, which is probably why I'm
puzzled by this. I'm a programmer though so don't spare the details.
