View 1 RepliesI have a site that made extensive use of javascript event handlers embedded in the html. I am trying to port the code to jquery and I notice that after the conversion, pages don't scroll as fast or smoothly as they did before. I actually notice this on many sites that make use of jquery or some other jscript library. What causes this behavior, and is there anything that can be done to minimize the sluggishness of the site?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to make this page work where new posts that get posted to it append smoothly on refresh instead of sliding up and down like they do now. Right now, you hit reply on your post and the entire thing goes up then unfolds again with the new post there, but the place is lost where you were on the paeg and you have to scroll down and I think that is not that user friendly. I want it to just pop or slide down under the existing posts so that the place on the window isn't lost for the user.
The profile page is here. I am talking about the profile threads. It's a little bit like a facebook wall. If you need more info I will try and get it.
I have found a wonderful script at: [url]
But it seems that you can only move the boxes if you click them and then move them really really fast, otherwise they don't react... I looked at the js file but I can't figure out what to change in order to make the boxes move more smoothly...I can't place the js file because its to big...
I should write a script which should distinguish internal and external links with JS. The links can be absolute or relative. I thought the best guess would be to first check if it is a relative link by checking the first character of the string is a /. (but how do you do this?) Then it will be always an internal link.
Then I thought to check if the URL (this.href) starts with the current protocol + location.host . If YES, it is an internal URL, else it is an external URL.
So does anybody know how to check if a URL starts with '/' or '[URL]
wanted to know how can i select internal links in a webpage like[URL]and add a particular class to them.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using a JQuery function to slide a div into and out of visibility, but every time I toggle, the browser resets my view to the top of the web page..What I want to happen is when you click to reveal the div, the page scrolls down and the div content is in full view. When I click again to re-hide the div, I want the page to scroll back up smoothly instead of just reverting to the top of the whole page...The page url is: http:[url]....Here's my code:
Code:
<script type="text/javascript">
jQuery(document).ready(function() {
jQuery(".content").hide();[code]......
Love the Cycle plugin.
- works as expected in that one photo fades into the next photo smoothly. Test page looks great - [url]
However, when I put the exact same code into Thesis/WordPress, I get a long delay between the images, and spend several seconds looking at a blank stage - [url]
Why would that be? How to make the images transition fade smoothly into the next image
how to make an image/text to scroll as the user scroll the page also? for example if the user scrolls down image/text also scrolls down and when the user scrolls up image/text also scrolls up..

View 2 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone have a reputable reference about internal string storage in
JavaScript? (for some particular implementation I mean).
Say having 1,048,576 characters long string from the geometric
progression:
function generateLargeString() {
var s = 'a'
for (var i=1; i<21; ++i) {
s = s.concat(s);
}
return s;
}
- the internal size should be 2 mebibytes and not 1 (?) if strings are
indeed stored as Unicode 16-bit. From the other hand it would be
tempting for an engine developer do not spend extra bytes on ASCII
chars...
So does anyone know of any documented engine optimizations on the
matter? Would be expected on some engine to have the string from above
twice smaller than say
function generateLargeString() {
// 1200 ETHIOPIC SYLLABLE HA
var s = String.fromCharCode(0x1200);
for (var i=1; i<21; ++i) {
s = s.concat(s);
}
return s;
}
I really like the effect used in the footer of this site, how the menu fades in when you scroll over the links at the bottom.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have created a div on one of my webpages, the child of another div ("header"). I have tried setting it to "fixed" through CSS but then it just disappears -- I'm guessing the reason it does this is BECAUSE it's a child of another div.If there's a CSS solution to this, great, but right now I'm thinking I'll have to rely on JavaScript.Anybody have an idea of how I'd get this div to scroll with the page, like a fixed div?

I want to make a list of divs into a vertical scrollable slider.Each div will consist of a small thumbnail image, a small title header and a link.I haven't started coding this yet but the above code should give you an idea of what I'm aiming for. The image thumbnails will be floated on the left, and the titles/links will be floated on the right.
I've been looking at the jQuery Scrollable script here and when I tested it with JS turned off, the rest of the content within the slider stayed hidden, instead of being visible and there was no way of viewing the rest of the content within the slider, other than the three images that were "in view".I would like to know if there's a way of making all the content within the slider visible all at once when JS is disabled. Is it possible to do this?
I am creating a website that uses columns (example) and I would like to be able to click left and right buttons to scroll horizontally one column at a time without the header and footer scrolling with the content.
I have tried using Scrollable and JCarousel but both require you to scroll through a set of list items. I need to be able to scroll 320px at a time. Is this possible?
I have a couple of divs as part of my gallery page, I was wondering how I can make the image that is loaded into the div be a link, so it can be clicked on, but a different link for each image. I want to click the main div on the right when it has been loaded with an image so it opens up the original image source in a new window.

Javascript in a web page: an ActiveX component, or example code in

Hopefully, the problem can be solved without recreating a complete
Javascript interpreter. Any ideas?
If someone posts something, and it includes a link, I'd like that link to be able to be clicked and link to the site instead of just showing up as a string. Does anyone know a script that can accomplish this? About an hour of googling has got me nowhere.
