Javascript To Call CSS File Based On Browser

Jun 20, 2002

I have seen this employed somewhere else, but for the life of me cannot remember how it was done. I need to write a javascript that will call a desired CSS file based on the user's browser.

Loading A Css File Based On Browser Being Used?

Jul 16, 2011

I have some code that performs differently in Opera than it does in any other browser. So I have a stylesheet specifically for opera. Is there a way to do something like this, where I check the browser, and if it's not opera, then load the default sheet, otherwise load the opera-specific css?

<script>

// You have permission to copy and use this javascript provided that
// the content of the script is not changed in any way.

As of this writing, that code seems to break my page, as if it doesn't like loading a sheet based on an if/else clause.

AJAX :: Call Based On Results Of A Previous Call

Dec 14, 2010

The general framework is a simple user login function. The user name is selected and a password entered as usual. The function grabs the element values and passes them to a php page that queries the database. An AJAX call returns the password to the function and then I want the innerHTML to be a choice of two web pages, depending on success or failure of validation. There are existing AJAX functions available on the internet but they are overly complicated for what I think should be a simple, quick to load function.

Where I am stuck is that the standard procedure to make an AJAX call is the browser window event. How do you make the call from within the function? I have tried creating two new variables, "success" and "again" to replace xmlhttp, but still stumble on the event to assign a value. I left the blank password protection (if statement) with that variable to demonstrate what I mean.

I've put in my code below, which is in development and successfully alters the innerHTML text depending on user input but I can't figure out how to insert the relevant php page. I have '// out' the testing bits, but left them for info. (I have tried full 'scripting' as the innerHTML, but it's messy.)

JQuery :: Use Specific Css File Depending On Browser And Browser Version

Sep 18, 2010

On my site i use a lot of features that are unsupported by older browsers, and right now it looks pretty stupid when the features are only partially shown. So i was wondering if there's a way of making the browser look to different css files depending on which browser and version it is. For example, css3 gradient backgrounds are supported in firefox 3.6 or something, but not in 3.0. All the hacks out there is to 3.*, so it changes for the allready working 3.6 too if i hack it. I want to controll it so that i have a specific css file for the none-supporting version and lower and one for the supporting and above. I looked at a bad browser plugin (because it has some of the basic features im looking for)

DOM-based Cross-browser Navigation

Jul 23, 2005

I'm trying to find a javascript/DOM navigation tree to use in a
web-based content management system, to allow navigation of > 10,000
folders/files.

The javascript (non-DOM) tree we currently use is running too slowly
as it cannot dynamically load in nodes when users select a node to
expand. This is critical for us. The top level of the tree hirarchy
only has 20 or so nodes, but each node might contain up to 1,000
nodes.

So what we need is for the tree to process and display the first tier
(20 nodes) and then only process sub-nodes if the expand icon is
clicked.

Does anyone know whether such a tree exists?

It needs to be compatible with all modern browsers (IE 5+, Netscape
6+, Opera 7+, Konqueror 2+, Safari etc). I've looked at several
different examples, but none of them (AFAIK) appear to be fully
compatible with the above list of browsers.

Browser Based Offline App With Database Connectivity

Dec 11, 2009

I work for masterclock. We sell network synced clocks and timing systems. One of our products is a "bell ringer." We currently control this ringer through a C++ program another one of our employees made. However, it only works on Windows systems, looks like crap, and is as confusing beyond all get-out. I have been given the task of rewriting this program in a pretty, easy, and universal format. i.e. a browser. Now to further explain the bell system program.

1. The program searches the local network for the bell system hardware.
2. User chooses appropriate hardware (if more than one bell system exists) to connect to and enters the password.
3. User edits tables stored in a local MS Access database via the bell system program UI.
4. User sends data to the bell system hardware it is connected to.

I've been racking my brain and the internet for about 6 hours trying to see what is possible. Because this all needs to be done locally I can't use any sort of server-side language like php or asp. It seems silly to make a client install a virtual server to connect to a file that is on their own computer. I'm assuming that I am pretty much limited me to javascript. I found this site but that only works with internet explorer which is almost as restricting as the program we have now.

I considered flash for a little while until I found out a swf can't connect to a database w/o using php or asp. We aren't limited to the MS Access database but it would be less work for me if we could stick with it. It may not even be possible but it seems like it should work. some way. We also considered an internal site on the bell ringer hardware itself, like routers nowadays. I think that would be an equally if not more difficult process though and I'm limited to about 500kb on its flash memory.

JQuery :: Change Field Value With Ajax Call Based On Checkbox State?

Mar 31, 2010

I've created a registration form with sponsorship options hooked to checkboxes. My original form used ASP to keep values in hidden fields to use for totaling everything at checkout time.

Now I'd like to use PHP and Ajax to place the value into the text field related for each option checked.

I'm able to do that making an Ajax call. My problem that I need help with is this: If the visitor decides to uncheck a sponsorship option, the value placed in the associated field remains on the form. How do I replace that value with a null or empty string if they decide to uncheck their original choice?

I've tried JavaScript to no avail so far, both in the client side and server side code. I'm very new at this and I need help. Will jQuery work without having to change a bunch of code?

Call Background Images Specific To Browser Size?

Apr 6, 2010

I have been trying all sorts of things, but falling short... I'm trying to set up a way to detect a user's browser size and then call a specific background image accordingly...

say (for example) that BKGD1.jpg is for users who have browsers that are 1280x1024 and higher; BKGD2.jpg is for users who have browsers that are smaller than 1280x1024...

i'm even open to an option that only displays a background image if the browser is (as in the example above) 1280x1024, and just a background color if the browser is smaller than that.

JQuery :: Cross-Browser On Variable Change Call Back

Jul 1, 2011

I want to bind a hook to objects member variable change event i.e. lets say I have object:
var obj { var1 : 1,
var2 : 2,
var3 : 3
};

I want to call "Magical" function like this:
onVariableChange(obj, "var1", function(obj, varname, old, new) {
alert("Variable " + varname + " changed from " + old + " to " + new);});
And after this function call every time obj.var1 is set to some value have my callback function called

I found something in internet: [URL]. Its cool but:
-It is changing Object-s prototype
-It is not working under IE 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12....
I've changed it a little bit and instead of adding to Object class prototype I'm adding it as member to any object which needs this hook. But IE still doesn't work. Is there any known cross-browser solution for this? I remember there was a jQuery upcoming project which would allow users to bind object to form and by changing one other will change automatically I wonder whats that project name and how they change input value when object member value changed.
