Javascript Style Options Don't Work With Forefox
Oct 28, 2005
Ik want 3 radiobuttons (from the same group) to be hidden. They may appear when I check a checkbox in the same form.
When I put the radiobuttons al in 1 DIV, and use style='visibility='hidden' or display='none' with an onclick() it works fine with IE.
The problem is that mozilla firefox doesn't hide the elements.
Someone knows the solution?

I got this simmple function, It stays on onChange on select and on
change it hides all objects with ID equal to select name plus the
optionvalue. It works perfectly in Opera and FF, but IE crashes because
says that options object is null
the problem is in for (optionId in what.options)
It seems that IE does NOT return the list of options, but only some
other objects: language scrollheight, istextedit, currentstyle,
document, and onmouseup
Please can you help me how can I go throuth that cycle? I need to get
the values of all options in select. Thank you
function showHide (what) {
selectedId=what.options.selectedIndex;
selectedValue=what.options[selectedId].value;
selectedObject = document.getElementById(what.name+selectedValue);
selectedObject.className="";
for (optionId in what.options)
{
optionValue=what.options[optionId].value;
if (optionValue) {
optionObject = document.getElementById(what.name+optionValue);
if (optionId!=selectedId) {
optionObject.className="hidden";
}
}
}
}

I have some simple code to have one div bounce around inside another. It works fine on Firefox and IE, but for some reason in Opera and Chrome it only moves left to right.
This suggests that Chrome and Opera allow you to dynamically set style.left but not style.top. This seems odd to me.
why this won't run as intended on Chrome or Opera?
Here's a very simplified version of my code to demonstrate the problem:
Code:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd">
<html>

The Javascript
Code:
document.getElementById('all_days_div').style.display = 'none';
The HTML section containing the div the Javascript should be hiding
Code:
<div id="all_days_div" style="display:block;">
<p align="right" >
Show All Days
</p>
</div>
When the JavaScript code is called, instead of hiding the div, I get the following error:"Cannot read property style of null" Do you see anything wrong with what I've written, or is my problem elsewhere?

i am going to add thumbnail images on the right side of this page[URL]...like found on this page[URL]... also i am going to give the arrows the ability to navigate through the images i asked for advice in a different forum and was told that the image swaps i have in ggallen.html should not be inline as it clogs up the page...makes sense. i would like to know the best way to add the image swap function, or whatever is best for the job, to the thumbnails. also i would guess there is a more concise way of achieving the navigational behavior for the arrows than making separate divs which are shown/ hid on click.

In Bourne shell, you can do
Code:
for x in `foo bar grill` ; do
echo $x
done
and in Tcl I can do:
Code:
foreach e in { foo bar grill} {
put $e
}
but in JavaScript, I end up doing:
Code:
var l = [ 'foo', 'bar', 'grill' ];
for (var i in l) {
var x = l[i];
... do something with x...
}
Is there an idiom for looping over a fixed list of things in JavaScript that doesn't require creating a var before the loop?

I've been trying to make a Firefox extension and I am finding a need for a style sheet switcher. I have found several sites that will give you stylesheet switches for HTML, XHTML, but not XML. When I search for an XML stylesheet switcher I'm getting information on XSLT. Which I do not want to use at this time. I want the stylesheet switcher to be a JavaScript function since I know how to evoke functions with XUL menu overlays the form of XML used to create Firefox extensions. I'm not looking for somebody here to know XUL. I would just like a function which you know would work with XML to try in my XUL form of XML to see if it will work. A link that would give me this function or information on how to write it would be good to. I am a newbie to both XML and Firefox extension writing. I spent all they reading about XML hoping it would give me the answer but it didn't. I have seen some information which seems to say that XML as similar stylesheet capabilities to HTML so I know that.

I seem to have come across a weird issue in internet explorer.I've been working on doing regular expressions for a register form, and I've checked it in Firefox, and Chrome and it seems to work for both of them but yet it doesn't work for Internext Explorer 6 - 8.The issue is that the drop down boxes (select fields) dont seem to be recognised for RegEx in I.E. this is causing an issue for me as I want it to work in ALL common web browers as well as keeping the whole form standard.
I've pasted a snippet of code below to show you what I've done.This one below is the original one which just checks if the field entry is blank
function check(theForm)
{
var checker;[code]...
If you have any Ideas about what I can do to make it work in I.E. I would be most greatful. Also if anyone knows how to do and RegEx on a checkbox that would help me quite a bit too.

I have the following function to resize a div element (Content) depending on the:
size of another div element (leftConent).
function adjustContentHeight() {
var content = document.getElementById("Content");
var leftOne = document.getElementById("leftContent ");
content.style.height = (leftOne.offsetHeight + leftOne.offsetTop) + "px";
return true;
}
This code works as expected in IE6 and FF2.0, but when testing in IE7
nothing happens... the "Content" div is not resized.

My understanding had been that $.css("width") would return the original user selected style, eg "100%" or "10em", and $.width() returned the computed width, always in "px". Not so, following the code through for .css(), it calls something called getComputedStyle and the only difference between the two functions turns out to be a post-fix of "px" on the .css() result - not very useful. I need to know whether my user has called me with a proportional dimension, or a fixed one. How to tell with jQuery?

not work. I've tried all types of browsers, I've download the Service pack
1 for XP and IE. I have download java from Sun, which I know is not
javascript but it could not hurt. I have done everything I know of to fix
this problem but still Javscript will not work on my windows XP. I don't
know where to turn from here, Microsoft surely does not have any info about
on their website....
