Javascript, DHTML. Scrolling Bug In Firefox.

this.ctrl.style.display = 'block'
Firefox scroll area to the top, but IE not. I think that's bug. Maybe
anyone knows how I can fix that?

I have a form that will display either text boxes to edit a start and end date or just display nothing depending on the selection from a <select>. I am using JavaScript and DHTML to accomplish this and the code below works fine. When the page loads my <select> will have a value already.
My question is how do I get the correct block of code to show up when the page loads depending on what is already selected? I can't use an onLoad in the body tag because I am unable to edit the body tag. Code:
I am testing in IE7.
I display one of several spans when the user mouses over some code.
Inside the span are several tabs. Clicking on the tab triggers a JS
function that hides the "current" text for the span, then shows the
"new Current" box. It's a constantly revolving door- turn off old,
turn on new. Switch from one span to another and reset the fields.
When I switch between different "spans" then switch back, there are
ghost form elements on the screen (a text area, a blank button) that
appear near where they should be. The section that I was last on does
not display. This occurs when switching between different spans.
HOWEVER, when I set a javascript alert to display what the old visible
and new visible divs are within each span, none of these problems
occur- everything displays correctly. It's as if the alerts "reset"
the javascript display in some fashion. The errors only happen when
the alerts are not on.
Does anyone know why this might happen or if it's a common occurence
that these problems disappear when an alert is used? If I don't use an
alert, how do you display JS variables during testing. Here are some
of my JS functions. Code:
Is DHTML a language? or is it a composition of JavaScript and css? Does Java(not javascript) has something to do in it?
What is actually the best to create client-side dynamic pages?
I know JAVA is used to create applets but I am not sure of wich is the most powerful....
Also, wich are the newer versions of all the above languages?
Is there a way to change the displayed text on a web page using some
combination of Javascript and DHTML? NOT in a text box. As far as I
know (with my limited knowledge) the only way you can do this is with
a textbox or images, which is not what I'd like to do. There's gotta
be a way to do this, right?
I am updating my web pages so that they work in FireFox but I have come across a problem with my divs. I am unable to scroll use the mouse wheel. The scroll bars are visible and I can manually move them up and down but it just doesnt seem to work using the mouse wheel. This feature works fine in IE. I have set the styles of my divs to overflow:auto.

Anyone trying out the javascript drop down menus from the Sitepoint Javascript Anthology book might have noticed that in IE7 the sub menus are misaligned, they are offset to far to the right.
Has anyone else come across this problem and does anyone know how to fix it? It has unfortunately broken several of my menus, though if you just try the demo menus from the book in IE7 they also suffer the same problem.
How do I scroll two textareas in sync with FireFox/Mozilla?
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhy does this code work in IE and Firefox and the second example does

want the most recently added one to scroll into view.
Works in both:

It could be either AJAX, DHTML or Javascript.

I am creating a table at runtime using DHTML and registering event for the table row click. When i deploy this application on web server and browse the application, the events fires in firefox and chrome but in IE the events are not fired. If i browse the application from the server with localhost, the application triggers the events and fails when i use machine name.

I'm doing a site and want to have a scrollable menu area so that more links can be added at a later date. I need to know how to do this without resorting to flash as its a HTML only site. The whole thing needs to look as close as possible to the attached GIF.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI came across this javascript scrolling text. My problem is :- I need to have a huge big long message/ messages, but after a certain point the scroller stops scrolling and goes back to the beginning so doesnt show every message that I want. I have tried to take out the <nobr> tags but that doesnt work. Is there anyone out there that can have a look at the code below and see if it can be modified to allow multiple lines of messages. Many thanks

I am looking at a client’s site that has a scrolling text bar at the bottom of the page for latest news. I have been asked to recommend whether they keep the scrolling text as a java applet or whether they make it dhtml with Javascript to make it scroll.
To be honest, I’m not sure whether there really is an important difference, in terms of download time, likelihood of working (if client browsers are better enabled for one verses the other), or whether there are any other reasons one should be used over the other.

Problem here is on the Mac the transition are jumpy and it seems to flash the first yellow div before sliding up or down. Testing on a PC it will slide down but won't slide up. How can I get the whole browser window to slide up and down with a smooth transition.
im searching for a plugin/code example for text scrolling. I got some text in a <div> if text is longer than for example 300px it gets cut and is scrolling from start to end, stops for a second and then scrolls back, stops and all over, and if its not long enough than 300px then just displays normaly. Something similar to the Song name scrolling inin anyMP3 player.

All this time I was testing my sites only in IE6 until my friend told me it wasn't working in FireFox. So I have to make changes in my Javascript code. In the Javascript console all the errors are pointed at the window object in all lines. alert(event.type) gives event undefined. Then I tried Event.type because I read somewhere that mozilla reads it as Event while IE as event. But then it gives:
Error: document.Event has no properties
Source File: http://localhost/xxx/xxx/xxx.js
Line: 3
Any idea of what I should be doing for it to work in FireFox ? The site works perfectly fine in IE until someone told me that IE doesn't follow w3c rules.
i have function that print xml table to the screen , it work fine on IE but not on Firefox. The problem is on red line:
var xmlDoc = this.req.responseXML;
var rows = xmlDoc.getElementsByTagName('ROWSET/ROW');
alert(rows.length); // = 0 on Firefox
I add alert and notice that on firefox i am getting 0.
again on IE it work fine.
