JQuery :: Width() On Newly Created Div Returns False Value?

May 18, 2011

When I create a new div and insert it with .append(ndiv) to an existing div ndiv.width() returns the width of the parent div instead of the actual value. This is the same in FF4 and IE9 so I suppose this is a regular behavior and I just don't realize how to deal with it.

JQuery :: Can't Traverse Newly Created Elements

Dec 8, 2010

Consider the following snippet of [code]...

I would expect it to show "2" but instead it shows "0". Why?

It seems the find() method doesn't work on the newly created elements. Do traversing methods only work on elements that are actually in the document? If so, how can I traverse and manipulate freshly created elements prior to inserting them into the dom?

Set Background Image To Newly Created DOM Element

Jan 26, 2011

I am trying to dynamically create child elements and add a background image before appending it to the parent node. Everything is working except for the image files actually appearing. When you inspect the element in Mozilla, it reveals that the li elements have all been created and attached, and even contain the "style" attribute. I am certain it is my reference to the image array that I am not calling correctly... how to use the array to reference the new background image? external js file:

Place Backslashes Into A Newly Created File

Feb 6, 2011

I know that this is partially a PHP code, however; the portion that I need help with is Javascript so I decided to put it in the javascript category. This code takes the text contained in $code5 and puts it in a .js file. The problem is that when the text in $code5 is placed in the .js file, the backslashes () before the quotes (") are deleted. I need these backslashes to remain when the code is placed in the . js file. I tried adding a second backslash next to each backslah to see if that would work, but it didn't.

Navigator.javaEnabled Always Returns False In Mozilla/Opera

Jul 23, 2005

I am trying to test changes to my site (made only on my local machine so

When I test "navigator.javaEnabled in IE it corretly reports true/false
depending on whether javascript is enabled.

However, both Mozilla and Opera *always* return false. How can I properly
test to see if javascript is enabled/disabled in these two browsers? (If you
have a reference on the web, please point me to it as I've spent several
hours trying to find what I need.) Code:

Form Always Submits - Even If My Function Returns False - Alert() Doesn't Seem To Be Working

Nov 6, 2009

I have a simple form here with a function to validate it, but I have no idea where I'm going wrong. I'm very familiar with ActionScript and C++, so I get the coding aspect of it, but one thing I'm not familiar with is how exactly JavaScript and HTML communicate. The problem is that this form always submits, even if my function returns false...but I can't even see if it returns false anyway, because alert() doesn't seem to be working either.

Here's what I have for my HTML:

Accessing Width Variable - Returns Undefined

Feb 13, 2009

I am trying to access the width variable from my main page. Within the imageinfo.js script functions I can alert() the width value which returns 1024. But I can't seem to pass this variable to my main page or access it directly so that I can use document.write() to write the variable on the page. Whenever I try to call the 'width' variable directly from the main page I get undefined. How can I access this variable? However, with the test code below, I was able to get ducument.write() to write the 'width' variable on the page but now the page doesn't stop loading - there's an endless loop in the code...

Code:
BinaryAjax(url,function(http) {findEXIFinJPEG(http.binaryResponse);test(width)},null,useRange ? [0, Range] : null);

Main page
Code:
<html>
<head>
<script>
function test(width){
document.write('Image Width = ' + width)
} </script>

<script type="text/javascript" src="binaryajax.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="imageinfo.js"></script>
</head>
<body>
<script type="text/javascript">readFileData('image.jpg')</script>
</body>
</html>

Imageinfo script - This script uses the binaryajax script found below.
Code:

Pulldown Menu Created With JavaScript/DOM; Wrong Width In IE

Jun 8, 2006

I am trying to generate a pulldown-menu with JavaScript/DOM:
The following Code works fine with Opera an Mozilla but in the IE the
width of the select element is too short:

myCurrentElement =
window.document.getElementsByName('par_role')[0];
for (var i = 0; i < optionArray.length; i++)
{
myNewElement =
window.document.createElement('option');
myNewElement.setAttribute('value',
optionArray[i]["value"]);
if (optionArray[i]["selected"]==1)
{
myNewElement.setAttribute('selected',
'selected');
}
myNewText =
window.document.createTextNode(optionArray[i]["label"]);
myNewElement.appendChild(myNewText);
myCurrentElement.appendChild(myNewElement);
}

<select size="1" name="par_role"">
<script language="JavaScript">
<!-- //
var j = optionArray.length;
optionArray[j] = new Object();
optionArray[j]["value"] = "1";
optionArray[j]["label"] = "Admin";

var j = optionArray.length;
optionArray[j] = new Object();
optionArray[j]["value"] = "4";
optionArray[j]["selected"] = "1";
optionArray[j]["label"] = "TEST";
// -->
</script>

If I try to set the width of the select-element with css, long labels
are cut off.

Do I have any other possibility to reset the width of the select
element?

JQuery :: All Images Must Be Resized If Width Exceeds Max Width?

May 5, 2010

I currently have a website where i share thoughts with my friends (some kind of forum) and within this 'forum' people can post pictures they made but most of the time these pictures exceed the max width of my website so my website gets all streched out!So this is what i want: all images on the page must run thru some sort of function which checks if the image image width exceeds the max_width. if it does then the script must calculate how many pixels the current width exceeds the max_width and get this number so that the script does: current_width = current_width - (max_width - current_width)

JQuery :: Resizing Width Depending On $(window).width?

May 18, 2010

I've recently start using Flexigrid (old JQuery grid plugin), and, as you may know, one of the few issue this really good grid plugin got is the lack of liquid layout option. My personal idea to solve the problem is to set the "width" parameter depending on $(window).width. Here is the problem (and here's why i post this question in "General use" and not in "Plugin").

The starting, and working, code is:
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#flex1").flexigrid
(
{

[Code].....

This work fine for me, but I supose it could be done way much elegant... maybe somethin without "IF" that could emulate the "%", like var percentage = $(#div.id).width()*0.XX with the 0.XX picked from an array of percentage, one for each column. Probably I should set up a function... ahhhh, as you may easily see I'm a total beginner with JQuery (and JS in general...)
