I'm using the jquery validate plugin. And i'm trying to add a new validation rule.
My input field has a complex name eg. name="expiry[year]". So i am selecting the field as outlined in the documentation here:[URL].. The problem, no JS errors & no validation. If i change my input name to name="expiry" it will work, but in this particular scenario this is not an option. Can anyone advise a possible solution to this issue?

I have added a rule to my form but I can't understand why it does not work! [URL]. This is an example page: the rules is that the check box must be checked and there must be a valid date. From firefox console I can see it returns true or false as I need but the validation does not get triggered. Why is that?

I'm working under certain constraints wherein,at a certain point outside my direct control,validate is called with no arguments, but after that I want to set a custom validation function on a form field. I figure there's got to be a way to manipulate validate's internal data structure to add the function, but I don't have a clue as to how.

I posted this message a while ago but I can't find it. My bad if both show up. I just tried the validate plugin. I added the link to load it into my form and now I am getting callback querystring (I normally don't use querystrings) and I am not sure how to stop that.
I have a function that uses $.post() to get some address info and updates the page. I am returning a json object and this is now is broken. I gives me a invalid label error. I can see the data in firebug and it looks just fine. The function works if I don't load the validate plugin.

if (el == 'el_name') {

I tried taking the quotes off 'errorPlacement' but no luck. In the debugger I see it checking the settings for an errorPlacement function and it's undefined. I ran the function definition through JS Lint and it's happy

In my current work i try to put several links onto an image. I do this with AJAX:
$('.panorama').load("getContents.php", {id : "5"});
This inserts several links into my container "panorama". They look like that: <a class='poi' style='margin-top:141px; margin-left:365px;' href='#6'></a>
The problem is, that a click on those links is not registrated by my java-script
code. I tried it this way:
$('a.poi').click(function(){
var hash = $(this).attr("href").substr(1);
console.log(hash);
if(hash)

I'm using the jquery autocomplete plugin.Suppose the user starts typing, and the autocomplete presents a drop-down of possible values. If the user presses return, the first valuein the drop-down is selected.What I want instead is the user experience that Firefox's search boxprovides: As the user types, search suggestions are offered. If theuser presses return without selecting a suggestion, what the user hastyped so far is submitted. And of course, if the user does explicitlyselect a value from the drop-down, then the selected value is

In the function 'formToArray' the variable 'max' is causing a conflict in my application. The reason being that max is not explicitly defined as a var so it becomes a global variable.So IMHO:
#520 - var i,j,n,v,el;
for(i=0, max=els.length; i < max; i++) {
should be changed to
#520 - var i,j,n,v,el, max;
for(i=0, max=els.length; i < max; i++) {

I've built a page which uses javascript to snap roll-over layers to a centered (div) layer. It works fine, and is called when the page loads. However, calling the same function 'onresize' works, but doesn't validate as XHTML - because the XHTML body tag does not support the onresize event handler.
As a consequence, I need to extract the onresize handler into it's own script file and use it to call a page reload.
I can get this to work in IE 6 on a PC, but it doesn't work in FireFox. I really need this to be as cross-compatible as possible. The code I have in the page header is:
Code:
<script type="text/javascript">
function reDo(){ window.location.reload() }
window.onresize = reDo;
</script>
Does anyone know how to achieve a cross-compatible means of reloading a page upon resizing?

I am trying to send request using ajax with some japanese text.
As any of you know XMLHttpRequest is send with utf-8.
I was hoping there is a way to send with different encoding like
var parameters = "metadata=" +
encodeURI(document.getElementById("metadata").value);
http_request.onreadystatechange = metadataUpdate;
http_request.open( 'POST', "/servlet/SendJapText", true );
http_request.setRequestHeader( "Content-type",
"application/x-www-form-urlencoded;charset=Shift-JIS" );
http_request.send( parameters );

I'm making a little CMS, and I need to use AJAX to query the DB to see if an email is already registered. Here's my code so far:
The javascript:
Code:
<script>
function getEmail(){
var ajaxRequest;
try{
ajaxRequest = new XMLHttpRequest();
} .....
I'll test it by entering javascript:alert(getEmail()) in my browser, and it returns undefined. When I replace return 'valid/taken' to alert valid/taken, it will alert the values correctly, but for some reason it has to be entered twice (I have to hit enter twice in javascript:getEmail() for it to be correctly outputted). I'm relatively new to ajax and I think it might have something to do with the readyState not being correct.

Consider the following code:
<html>
<head>
<script src="jquery-1.3.2.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
function DocLoadup(HTMLName,DestDiv)
{
$(document).ready(function(){$("div#" + DestDiv).load(HTMLName);});
}
[Code]...
All seems straightforward enough; and all works well without hitting the error console on FireFox However, I am concerned that, due to my newness in using the toolbox, I've missed something here. In particular, is there a need to explicitly clear "div1" in DocLoadup BEFORE loading the div with subsequent content? Can anyone see anything else in my humble DocLoadup function which would pose a compatibility/functional problem somewhere (for the record, I'm using this to load a page with js in/linked to it)?

I have a text input, "Pets" and a checkbox "noPetsHS"."Pets" is required except when "noPetsHS" is checked. My validation rule currently is - and does not work? Pets:{required: "#noPetsHS:checked=false", min:1}"Pets" is usually required, very few select the checkbox, but I don't want "Pets" required if they do.I can find no reference to Rules and testing for absence of check and then requiring the text input.

my issue is both a php and a javascript (AJAX) one its one or the other. I have two combo boxes one dependant on the other, populated by AJAX but when I submit the form the secondary combo is not being registered as a php $_POST['var'] in the following action page. The secondary combo is contained and altered using divs and inner.HTML. Is this an expected behaviour or is my issue else where?

I have a select list #technology. Due to some back end processing it's default value is "0" (Please Select) I am trying to write a validation rule to make it required. The problem I'm having is that if you hit submit when it shows "Please Select" which has the value="0" then make a different selection it's not removing the error msg. Also if you hit submit multiple times when it is showing Please Select it just keeps adding the error msg

I'm trying to create a new validation rule to check if a button has a class. I try to explain the scenario. I have a button that makes an ajax call to check the availability of a product. When the app loads the button as class "to_check", when the button is clicked an ajax call is fired, a server script return the availability of the product and basing on this answer I change the class of the button from "to_check" to "ok" or "ko". Now I want to validate the button to se if the availability is being checked and is ok, then I wrote this:
<pre>$.validator.addMethod('hasClass', function(value, element) { if($(element).hasClass(value)) {

return false

jQuery.format('Please check the button'));</pre>

I wrote this function to be a change event applied to a checkbox. Now it is apparent I need to use it as a custom validator method, so it runs when you hit "Next" to step through the form. I have all that working, I just can't get the syntax of the rule right.
Here it is as a change event:
$(
'#MKDPT'
).change(
function(){
if(
$(
'#MKDPT'
).is(
':checked'
)){
var
checked
=
false
; .....
And my attempt at a custom validation rule:
$
.
validator
.
addMethod (
"MKDPTOnly" ,
function (
value .....
I have tried several versions, but none is letting the form go to the next step (return true) if the conditions are met.

So I created a custom rule following numerous examples out on the web for a dynamic text input, but for some reason it seems to be letting spaces through even though my regexp tests out ok to not match when the value is any combination of spaces...
$.validator.addMethod("noSpace", function(value, element){
return this.optional(element) || /^[a-z0-9][a-z0-9_ ]{0,70}$/i.test(value);
}, "Please enter a name starting with either a letter or a digit.");
$('#form').validate({
rules: {

The odd thing is, it will work if you type in a space followed by a character, but if you type in one space, or one space followed by x number of spaces, it just lets it through like it's valid. But yet when I look at the demos and examples that I pulled this from, they never let those scenarios go through.
