Using Regular Expressions (JavaScript 1.2/JScript 4+) :
String.prototype.lTrim =
function()
{
return this.replace(/^s+/,'');
}
String.prototype.lTrim =
function()
{
return this.replace(/s+$/,'');
}
String.prototype.trim =
function()
{
return this.replace(/^s+|s+$/g,'');
}
or for all versions (trims characters ASCII<32 not true
"whitespace"):
function LTrim(str) {
for (var k=0; k<str.length && str.charAt(k)<=" " ; k++) ;
return str.substring(k,str.length);
}
function RTrim(str) {
for (var j=str.length-1; j>=0 && str.charAt(j)<=" " ; j--) ;
return str.substring(0,j+1);
}
function Trim(str) {
return LTrim(RTrim(str));
}

I have the following script that converts line breaks from plain text into HTML formatted paragraphs. It takes plain text from one text area field and outputs the new formatted text into another text area field.
function convertText(){
var noBreaks = document.getElementById("oldText").value;
noBreaks = noBreaks.replace(/
[code]....
Is there a way of trimming the value before checking it so that a space for example would still be NULL "".
Code:
if(document.sendmail.emailsubject.value == '')
{
msg += "Subject cannot be left blank.
";
error = true;
}
I am using jQuery and blockUI to prevent the user from submitting a form twice by double clicking on the interface: This is in my global js file and is called on every pages
document.ready:
$('form').submit(function(){$.blockUI({message:'', overlayCSS:
{opacity:0.2}})});
This was working really well, but if I have validation on one of the form submits that returns false, I of course want to unblock the UI.
I have a need to submit a form, but don't need the user to click on a button. How do I do this? Is there some way, using JavaScript, to setup a <form> tag to do this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedThe script sets the cursor position in the textarea at the begining of text. The textarea is already filled with text and I need to edit it, so I can start editing from the top. The scripts work fine.<textarea rows=15 cols=100 name='POST' onfocus='setSelRange(document. multiupdate.POST, 0, 0)' />The problem is that I have multiple textareas with names like POST[$i] in the same form. Multiple textarea being submitted to PHP script as an array. So now when I call the function in different textboxes, it doesn't work.
How to overcome these textarea names with square brackets [] in it?I am a complete newbie when it comes to javascript and have taken this function from another site.
how to validate an input text before submitting or placing the cursor in another field? I've tried this below but it doesn't work.

I have a text box.I need to
1) search the database for the words user is typing in the text box. This will happen with each key press.
2) if there is a match - I need to change the text color.
How can I achieve this?
This works fine in FireFox:
$("#listname").val().trim()
But in safari it errors: $("#listname").val().trim() while this does work, $("#listname").val()
Why is that?
Picture a table where each cell row is 50px tall, with 3 to 5 columns of varying length. For example: thumbnail, name, description, price, options. The thumbnail will always be the same size, but for efficiency of space, nothing else is.
My question is one of overflow. With long descriptions, overflow:hidden will keep things clean. But the most aesthetic presentation would be todynamically truncate the description with ellipses (...) somewhere just before the text runs off the end of the cell (like the ubiquitous [More...] feature, but first filling the cell as much as possible).
This is a typographically desirable feature, and I can come pretty close with php

View 1 Replies View RelatedAlright, I'm using a Rooh.It WordPress plugin right now, but I don't like the way they do it, so I want to write my own code to do something similar.
I want the user to be able to select the text they want to highlight, and the background color of that text changes to whatever color they have selected.
How can I do this in JavaScript?
I need to a code to do the following.
There is a Text Area that user can enter text. assume that user enter something and put a dot Following values should be populate in a drop down at the place where dot locate .
like when we get the string object using Net Beans IDE and when we put "Object." , drop down will be displayed with available methods for that particular object. idea is to build a editor using java script.
I need a checkbox for an item, when the checkbox is true the user can enter text in a text box, only if the checkbox is ticked.I have numerous items I need for this.

I have a text area, I want that user's should not be able to enter a charaters in it. I want them to enter only numbers.I have written the code below to do this but it is not working as I think I am not calling the function right way.I am open to new suggestions as well, if I can show some alert to user if they enter character rather than no.

(i guess something is wrong since internet explorer works and chrome/firefox not) I also forgot to mention that the script works just fine when i am testing the webpage on my pc, the problem is when i used the webpage not locally but over the net, is there any setting should i change on my hosting server?
I've wrote what (at least in my mind) and awsome report generator for a group who uses my server. The user gets all the data from the server via the server's normal reporting tools, and then sorts/shows/hides/formats columns using javascript/jquery (saves server cycles). There is only one slight problem (think "grand canyon" slight), once a user has a form he or she wants, then the user needs to save the tab separated value form of the report to disk.
I can output the TSV into a DIV (and probably an IFRAME I'm guessing), and do for display purposes. However, the users need to copy/paste at this point, which is rather user-unfriendly. Is there a way to either prompt a file download/save (without making a call to the server and wasting time), or opening up a new tab with just the desired text, so the user can save it?
EDIT: I'd rather not replace the whole page that generates the report, as the user probably doesn't want to lose his or her work in formatting setings, and my want to generate multiple reports from one dataset/query, without having to rewrite the query.
I'm working on a forum. What I desire is to let user customize his own test. To do that I have to retrieve the user selected text. That's my problem. I don't know a jquery function to do that
View 6 Replies View RelatedBasically I have an text field with an id of s_username As the user types I want to append this to a var so I can display what the user has entered at the side of the screen, I have been using this for select boxes:
var ramCost = $("#ram").val();
is there a way to prevent user from adding more characters into a text input based on a validation rule(eg. you entered more than n words, you can't enter more, but you can delete or edit)? I think I'll have to programmatically delete the extra letter(s) that user just input somehow if the addition causes a violation of the rule, is this the best way?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI need a messagebox to let user type in some text and then submit. Do I need a plugin? I searched on Jquery site, seems the search plugins doesn't work as it doesn;t return anything with "messagebox". I found a plugin on other site, but need license. What I need is just a simple messagebox
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to prevent a form submitting when you press enter on a text
field? Some people press enter when they finish typing in a text field out
of habit I guess unconcsciously thinking it will take them to the next
field. Instead it submits the form and this causes all kinds of problems in
my case. Any javascript solution?
I have a form that has multiple text fields but what I'm needing to do is when a dollar amount is added to text field 1 I need to set the opposite amt in text field 2 and then NOT allow the user to make any changes to text field 2 but making it unavailable for change.
Also here is my function:
$(function() {
$("#ARTransferForm\:fromAccountAmt").blur(function() {
var fromAccountAmount = $("#ARTransferForm\:fromAccountAmt").val();
alert("fromAccountAmount " + fromAccountAmount);
[Code]....
Does java script provides inbuilt trimming function, if not then what
is the solution.
