I need to click on a child element and trigger an function in the parent, but know when i enable it both child and parent are getting executed.As you see in the attachment photo when I click the flip page icon the T-shirt should hide and create a description on T-shirt.

In jQuery, how to select a parent element to a child if I attached a click event on the parent but also want a click event on a child within.
Let's say I have a the following code :

There may be several of those classes in the page. I then use jQuery to replace the inner HTML to the clickclass div when clicked on with some other code and a input button (with an ID of, let's say 'save_button').
This works fine for that part:

I then want to have the button clickable so that I can replace again the HTML in the div (like a save button). But if I try a separate event listener on the input button, it also fires the parent event. Even if I return false on the child event or use event.stopImmediatePropagation() in the .click child function.
I've managed to almost get it with the following code :

If the event is triggerd form 'clickclass', then replace with HTML + input button
The problem is that whenever I try using .parent() with jQuery, it always tells me that parent() is not a function. I've tried various other ways of getting the parent object (the clickclass div) but can't get it to work.

All i want to do is have the onclick fire when mouse clicks on the background only. Currently it fires when either element is clicking.( it fires through the foreground element)How to i prevent this while maintaining a child parent positioning relationship?

The problem is am validating that entire td (what ever the value user updates) in one method. so in this scenario that validate method is calling when i move the focus onto child control. I am currently doing a fadein and fadeout function using jquery. When I click on a <a>, the page will fade in. There is an alert message (which is the javascript alert()) prompt out on the page once the page fade in. However, I want to fade out the page when I click the "OK" in the alert message.

The Farbtastic color picker is an elegant solution to the color-picking problem, but its usefulness is prohibitive in those situations where there is not enough screen real-estate. Because it is large, these are many. Since I want to use it in such a situation, I started working towards a solution.
The designed solution involved in clicking on something small, such as Click to Activate, and having the rest of the page become faded-out, while the color-picker appears superimposed over other parts of the page.
That solution is implemented up to a point. In the code posted:
- The trigger appears as part of the original DOM.,
- Clicking the trigger makes the page text fade, the color-picker appear, and the trigger changes to something like Click to Deactivate,
- Upon clicking, it does disappear, and the page text resumes it original appearance..
After this point, one might work towards making it more modular and more easily usable as is farbtastic itself.
It requires a var to hold state, and other things. Ideally, it could be combined with the original to offer a wider range of usage patterns. I have no doubt that the code can vastly be improved, since I am relatively new to jquery, although not to computing.
The code is posted below, in the hope that it proves useful to others, The only change made to the farbtastic.js code itself is to add "id='fbc' " to the outermost <div which is added internally. This change is not shown because it would involve posting all of farbtastic.js for this one change. The section of text used to illustrate presumed page content is from the NSIS Users Manual, and has no significance beyond being some text. The div named 'overlay' was employed to allow shifting the whole thing around as a unit relative to the trigger but might be eliminated were that not needed, since everything else works without it, Note also that the input#color from the original farbtastic has been replaced by 'repeater' which is a <div, but seems to work ok to get the color info.
Right now I am adding a click function to a div element on the page, it triggers a slideDown() animation. I would like it so when the user clicks on an 'a' link inside the div it does not cause the animation.
Currently it triggers the animation because the 'a' is inside the div that I have a click event for.
I tried checking inside the click function for my div element to see if 'this.tagName == 'A'' but it always says DIV, even when I click on the link.
I also tried adding a click event to all the links that stops any animations, but for some reason its not stopping the animation.[code]...
As far as I understood, stopPropagation() is supposed to stop events bubbling 'up' though the element tree (through parent elements). Eg. If I use stopPropagation() on a click event on an anchor element in a list, the event would not be triggered on the list. In my code I have a popup div, that needs to have stopPropagation(), as a click on the document (everywhere other than the popup) will hide it. When I add an element to the popup that has a live click event, the live click event is never called, even though it is a child element of the popup. Shouldn't the live click get called first? If I remove the stopPropagation all is well.. some code:

I am trying to figure out the syntax for the following. For this version I am simply trying to select the 2nd child of the SLIDE HOLDER div. For this test I am just making the width grow. My next pass will be to get the index of the DOT clicked and then pass it to the child of the other parent. Please see line 24. The parent (class="panelContent") div contains a child element that is generated/rendered last. This makes the child element #ReportViewer1 overlap the parent (class="rptViewer"). Can I jQuerytize the parent div to adjust it's size after the child renders so it is contained/displayed in the parent?

I have a div (representing a form) with a number of images positioned absolutely within it. The images represent buttons and what I'd like to do is click on one of the images/buttons and the whole form to fade out with the exception of the selected button which merely changes it's opacity from 1 to 0.5 (to remind the user it was clicked). Here's the code I'm using:

However, despite referencing the elements in a number of ways (they have unique id's), every time I run this, $(this) won't show - the opacity is being set but it seems to remain steadfastly invisible whilst the parent div is invisible/hidden - am I barking up completely the wrong tree here ?

I'm trying to write my first plugin using jquery, it's a form validator, and at a certain point it binds an handler to the submit event for that form:

the problem is, when I click the submit button of the form, the event is NOT triggered, nor is the form submit, and I do not understand why...
