making a variable equal the h1 html() without the span text.
// equals 'November2009'
var monthDelete = $('h1').html();
// I need just 'November'
I have some Javascript which says this:
Now that is fine when the text is only one line long. Suppose it's longer? What I want to do is have Javascript give the variable contentString its text from a hosted text file in a similar manner to the way Javascript can insert more Javascript using a hosted .js file.
I illustrate what I need to do using some "dummy" javascript:
$displaytext = "display this text";
$(".image").mouseenter(function(){
$(".test").text("$displaytext");
});
I would like to display the text in the variable $displaytext in my div.test when I mouse over the .image div. But instead, it just displays "$displaytext". Anyone know how I could make this work?
I need the text in the function to save to a variable. It will run through each of the child text and than attach to data. I'm willing to switch stuff up/rewrite a different way, I just need to know a way of getting this done
$("#navigation").click(function(){
var data;
$("#navigation ul span li").each(function(){

I'm using the alert to confirm if I've managed to get the time ok from the html, it should when working display the static time but currently displays NaN which AFAIK means that javascript is getting something from the HTML but it's in a form that it can't work with.
I know that the HTML validates fine, the time display is output from PHP. The intention is that PHP will output the time, if javascript is available then the javascript will take the static time and turn it into a ticking clock.
I'll look into the main guts of the clock script at another time, right now I need to get the basics working. I need to do it something like this way as I don't want to have any javascript embeded in the HTML, I want to have the javascript in external files.
for conveniance purposes I was trying to paste a text into a variable assignment:
PHP Code:
var mystring=" hello,
world
how are
you
today"
obviously javascript does not tolerate such syntax...
is ther any way I can get close to that
I am not talking about inserting /n in te string ...
I have a text file, the contents of which I would like to use as the value of a variable in Javascript. is this possible? how about importing it as the value of a (invisible) text box and acquiring it this way?

I can do this by showing a msgbox every time try increments but this
is annoying to use. I have been trying for hours to get this to work,
using innerhtml. Code:
I've been facing a problem assigning a javascript variable to an input text's value attribute.
My code is as follows:
var moduleCd = document.getElementById('client.moduleCd').value;
var productSelectLen = productSelect.options.length;
for(var i=0; i<productSelectLen; i++)

look at the bold italic marked text where I want to assign the value of variable moduleCd.
i have one script which is supposed to pop up a new win and after it does write a piece of text in it. This text comes from inside the HTML area:
(script)
function popupwin(whichOne) {
var width = 450;[code]......
var months = "April Showers";
document.write('<p><img src="ad11.jpg");
document.write(" alt=");
document.write(months);
document.write(">");
document.write(months);
How come when I display my output to a browser without the presence of the
ad11.jpg file, only the first word (April) in the text string "April Showers" is dispayed where the .jpg file is suppose to be...but the last line displays the entire text string.
I am trying to concatenate text to refer to a variable:
It give me undefined instead of 17. How should this be done without using eval() ?
I would like to assign the substring of particular text to a javascript variable so that I can use the variable in an if statement.

I have a regular expression that looks like this: mytext = mytext.replace(/(*)([^)]+)/gi,"$1 <a href='http://www.mysite.com/script?Argument=$2'>$2</a>"); I understand that this takes text between a ( and ) and puts it into the variable. My question is: How can I change this to take text between a [[ and ]] and put that into the same variable?

I have a form with 5 options for destinations. Each destination has several hotel choices. Each of the options has the same variable name that is passed to the booking engine at the other end. The problem is that it's passing 4 blank and 1 populated field for the same variable. How to strip the blank ones from the string and/or pass one populated field?

If I set $Message = 'hello' then it works and the message is inputed onto the rich text editor and appears. But when I try to retrieve the variable via $Message = $_SESSION['Message'] or from a database $Message = $INFO['Message'] ... the whole text editor disappears! How do I keep the data in the rich text editor from disappearing after a refresh by storing the variable with javascript or something else.
A need has come up, where I have to pass a text box entry to a Javascript Variable on the same page. Once I have that variable, I will need to utilize it on various places in the page. Here are the segmants of code I am working with:
*** DECLARING THE VARIABLE "firstname" (this would appear near the top of the body) ***
<script type="text/javascript">
var firstname;
firstname="This is Where I would like the text box to place it's value";
</script>

I know that I can set the text value of a DIV or SPAN very easily, but that is not what I want. I really would like it in a Js Variable that I can utilize freely in the code, wherever I need it.
1: Is this at all possible
2: What code am I missing to make this work. Again - I am very, very limited with Js knowledge.
I am trying to create a page that will pull data out of an input text box to a variable. I am then trying to take that data and punch it into a function, to eventually spit out the answer back on the web page. It has to do with telling the user to enter how many hours worked and their pay rate. I have included the code below. The problem I seem to be having is that I want to click a button to pull the data, then output the result in another script below the input boxes. I may have over done it with the functions, but what can I say..I'm lost! When I try to run it, I have the document.write cmd in there that is supposed to output the variable grossPay. Instead, it shows all the code instead of the value.
If I have something else wrong, or if I am making poor choices let me know. For some background, so far I am in the beginning stages of functions, if..else statements, so I am not trying to get crazy with this. Just something simple.
