First of all, I'm an absolute newb in jQuery. My problem: I have let's say 3 square div's. Beneath these div's are 3 hidden div's, but they are on the same place in the layout. If one of the top div's gets hovered the corresponding bottom div should display, while the rest should hide. And if you move your mouse out of one of those 3 top divs, while not hovering over another, the correspondingbottom div should not change but just stay visible. I searched a while on the internet, but have not yet found anything that fits my needs or for which I have the skills to adjust it.

I have a javascript/html/css issue that I'm trying to solve for about 3 days now, with no luck. I'm using javascript to toggle the visibility of a certain table. I set the table's display property to none (via js) in order to hide it and to block in order to show it. However, applying block in the display property of a table seems to be having trouble with firefox.
See below what display:block does to a table in firefox: This simple html code:
<table style="display:block" border="1" width="100%">
<tr><td width="100%">test</td></tr></table>
produces this result in firefox:
Notice how the td has the size of the content and does not stretch to the size of the table (although it has a width="100%")? In IE it works fine btw.
If I change my js code to apply "table" to the display property of the table in order to show it, it doesn't show up at all in IE!
So never done this one before so I am having a bit of a time trying to figure this one out.
Say I have a list of LI element and only a few of them have a inline style of display block, the rest have a display of none.
How would I go about looping through and dertmining the number of elements that have a display of block?
for(var m = 0; m < li.style.display.length; i++)
{
alert(m);
};
The above is just crazy but where my mind melts..
I have a feature similar to 'folding', where the user can hide parts of the page if they dont want to use these features.. some of this is done automatically, if a user chooses one type of template on the page, the settings for that one are displayed (and the other settings invisibleised).
Originally I did this with php, reloading the page with a variable to switch the sections on or off. This was proving to be a pain re speed and also cos there were a lot of form elements that needed to be saved each time it was reloaded.
So I decided to do this with javascript, using the following function:
function toggleDisplay(divId) {
var div = document.getElementById(divId);
div.style.display = (div.style.display=="block" ? "none" : "block");}
using block and none to either display or hide.
Problem is, I have lots of form stuff in the areas that will be hidden, and these are getting sent through on submit even though they are in a div thats set to display:none. I was hoping display:none would actually result in these not being sent.
anybody know of a nice clean way of preventing these hidden elements not being sent? (there are lots of em so it would have to be applied to the whole div that contains em)
I have following HTML code:
<br/>
<div style="display:none">.....</div>
<div style="display:none">.....</div>
How can I modify display to block in style attribute with Javascript?
The online documentation for "slideDown" and "slideUp" says that only the height is affected by those routines. That claim is false: the value of "display" is also changed, and for me that's a problem. I have a div that's set up with "position: absolute" and "display:inline". I want that box to appear in the layout relative to its surrounding content, and that's the simplest way I know to do
that. I also want the box to be animated. I do not, however, want jQuery to touch my "display" alue, because setting it to "block" reaks the layout completely. Looking at the (not trivial to understand) code, it *appears* that the original value of the "display" attribute is saved, or rather that the code attempts to save it. However, that's not working for me: my divis definitely display:inline to start off, but a call to "slideUp" or "slideDown" always leaves it either "display: none" or "display:
block".
I am new to JQuery. I am using Block UI in my application.In submit button onclick event, i am performing client side validations ( required fied validators )in asp.net.On clicking submit button,whole page is blocked and at the same time validation message is also displayed and page remains blocked. While performing client side validations i don't want to block the page.

The first part up to before the 'else if' works. but if the 'w1' has [URL] it still doesnt return true and display the DIV block??
I'd like to detect when the cursor leaves the page, and this doesn't work:$(document).mouseleave(aFunction); // Same with mouseout, too.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am using javascript to switch between a series of divs, on clicking a navigation tab the divs display property is set to 'block' and all other divs have their display property set to 'none'. That works fine, the problem I have is when I redirect to another page (e.g. a PHP script) on return to the index the divs have reset and only the default div is shown, rather than the div that was showing when the user left the page. The solution, as I see it, is two stages: Write a function to display the relevant div based on the variable passed to it, then work out how to pass this variable around various pages (post/get). I am very inexperienced with javascript and it drives me mad that the script literally does nothing rather than throwing up an error (as in PHP) but this is what I have so far in terms of a function:

I'm trying to detect when someone leaves a certain website. and this works:
<body onbeforeunload="showUnloading(event);" >
function showUnloading(evt){
evt.returnValue = "Are you sure you want to leave?";
}
However if someone clicks on a link within my site. That goes to another page in the website it treats it as if someone is leaving my website.
i want to add check boxes to the tree as leaves I know how to add normal texts..
View 3 Replies View RelatedI need to take some action when the user leaves my website. By leave I mean one of the following two cases:
1) Closes the browser
2) Goes to some other site (different domain)
Is there a way to detect this? I know that the event onbeforeunload and onunload gets fired when the user leaves the page, but these also get fired when the user leaves page A in my site and just goes to page B in my site. I don't want to alter every link within my site to fire the onclick event and in such event to "remember" in a JavaScript variable this is a navigation within my site. I am looking for some clean solution if one exists. For example, is there a way to get the information in the DOM where the user is going to when the onbeforeunload or onunload are fired?
I have a site where I'm using a home-grown social bookmarking tool. The user has an option to "Bookmark this page" to their browser.
My code works, but the problem is that when I dynamically grab the document.title, the browser (both IE and FF) tries to resolve any spaces or special characters so that when the favorite is stored in the browser, the bookmark reads:
"This%20Site%20Bookmark"
instead of:
"This Site Bookmark"
I feel like there must be a simple function to resolve spaces, but I'm coming up blank, no pun intended...:)
I have a .Net website that uses a text file to record when visitors arrive on a page.
However, I really want it to also store the date and time that a visitor leaves a page. I can easily calculate the time spent on pages within a session but currently have no way of knowing how long someone spent on the last page they visited during a session.
What I need is a script that runs when a page is unloaded. The script will update a text file (stored in the htdocs folder of the site) with the current time.
So far, I have come to the conclusion that I may need to use JavaScript and the window.onbeforeunload event but I cannot get any further.
On one of my sites, I have a reather involved page (searchable map).
When the person leaves the page then all the AJAX generated
information is lost. Is there a way that I can retain all this data
in a cookie or so or how would you recommend I saved all the users
information (perhaps using a database on the serverside).
I've managed to get my menu to slideDown() but I haven't been able to figure out how to get it to slideUp when my mouse leaves the menu. Here is my code:
<script type="text/javascript">
function lookup(inputString) {
if(inputString.length == 0) {
// Hide the suggestion box.
$('#suggestions').hide();
} else {

Banging my head against the wall here. I got a very simple script, 3 lines of code and trying to do one of the most basic things in jQuery, slideDown().

I have several divs that animate from the left when clicked on the appropriate button in the menu, all works well but I want the div to be about 10px in height when it moves to the right hand side of the screen then slide down to it's full height (351px). I can figure out a slidedown on it's own but can't work out how to combine both.[URL]
jQuery Code
(function($){
$.hideAllExcept = function(tabs,boxes){
function init() {

I am using JQuery to perform the slideDown function with one of the divs.
$(document).ready(function() {
$("a:contains('Forgot')").click(function() {
$("#signuppanel").hide('slow', function() {
$("#signuppanel").slideDown('slow');

Once the signuppanel goes away and comes back, the formatting of the text in the panel is lost. The bold property of the font is lost. How come does it happen and how can it be avoided?
