JQuery :: GetJSON Parameter - Long String?
Jun 25, 2009
I am trying to send with getJSON a very long string as parameter: $.getJSON("/ajax.php",{id:myid, thetext:mytext},myAjaxResult)where "mytext" - is value from my fckeditor.If "mytext" value is not so long, everything is going fine, but if it become a very long, getJSON doesn't work. How can I solve this question?

I'm doing some cross domain JSON requests and I'm unable to use query strings on my webservice calls (similar to codeignitor requests but without the work-arounds, qs params are entirely off the table). Is there another way I can format the callback variable to the url request?
for instance if I need to call the following url:
[URL]
is there some way I could call the url
[URL]
instead of:
[URL]

I'm trying to parse a Json string received by $.getJSON(). I can receive the string but firebug gives me an "invalid label" error. I think it is because the string is an hash array with a number as first label, but I'm not sure. This is the string:
{"15":{"id":15,"x":0.4589937586135409,"y":
0.8324914620560137,"z":-0.9435707004102728,"rawData":"1256204002860 13
-442866538 18392602 647462767 314 1777206957 -1664784174 "}}
and this is the non-working code:

I wanted to try creating a basic expression first. I want someone to enter a string that is 2 - 20 characters long and only has letters. This is what I use so far, and it doesn't work, nothing happens at all when I run it.
Code:
// Check for a valid name.
var namePattern = new RegExp("/^[a-zA-Z]{2,20}$/");
if (namePattern.test(name))
{
window.alert("Invalid");
}
name comes from a input box I display on screen. Also, I would like to update the expression so that there can be one space in the string, but it cannot be at the beginning or end. So this string is like a persons name. Bob is OK, Bob Smith is also OK. Edit: Actually, it is doing something but its always coming back invalid.

Lets say I wanted store a long string of text into a local storage member on a browser using javascript.
window.localStorage.setItem("key",longStringText);
Now lets assume that the text itself contains characters outside of the normal ISO-8859-1 character set (like asian or russian characters). Would the individual char values be stored as one byte or two bytes?
"hello" -> 5 * 1 bytes = 5 (normal 8859 character sets)
"hello" -> 5 * 2 bytes = 10 (unicode or an extended character set size).
Is ISO-8859-1 still stored like ASCII once was as 8 bits? Or is it 16? If I was to use a 2 byte character set then would that cut the size of my allocated local storage space by half?

I'm trying to parse a string from a URL and pass it as a parameter to another function. If that parameter meets certain conditions, I want hidden fields in my form to "unhide".
I am giving 3 usersr a specified url i.e. (http://DOMAINNAME.com?usr=uk or http://DOMAINNAME.com?usr=france) and based on that url, we'll parse the name and pass it as a parameter to a function. (i think i expressed that right??) Then we will display the proper shipping address depending on the parameter passed. My only problem now is, i'm horrible at writing regular expressions and programming in general. Do you or anyone else out there know of any good url parseing functions? I've been doing mostly project management throughout my career and never really got a chance to become fluent in javascript or programming for that matter.

I'm passing a parameter to a script, which sometimes fails.
However, I discovered that the ones failing had parentheses within the
text string, e.g., "Step: Press the (0) on the console."
I've learned how to escape apostrophes, but how do I do so for parens?
Is it ( ? Also, where ' was the xml entity for apostrophe,
would someone know the one for left and right parens? Can't find that
either...not having much luck today with my searches.

I am hiding a login panel like:
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#login").css({marginTop: "-105px"});
});
But in IE 8 it takes very long to hide? I don't like to set it in CSS because if javascript is turned off people can still login as it is visible... is there anyway to make it faster ?

Using jQuery Mobile, when I turn my phone (iPhone 3) into landscape, the width adjusts correctly and then extends. It's too long. It does this with paragraphs as well as lists. Even the [URL] site does this :)
How can I override the width? Is there any way to test iPhone 4? Any of you have one to test the [URL] site in landscape view?

Currently it loops infinetly isntead of waiting for the server to push a message so its obviously not working.

What is jQuery's long-term strategy for browser support - cut off browsers after a certain number of years or when going below a certain market share? [I'm asking because of the current trend among some webdevs and also
library developers advocating to remove IE6 support and force these users to upgrade their browser. I work with several clients that do not want to "lead the way" in this respect, and need to support IE6 as long as it has a fair usage share, which may be for several more

I have few lists with ui sortable/droppable and I want to have let say max 4 elements in one. So:
What code should be there? I've tried to change class to .disabled but it blocks moving.
$('#sortable'+new_id).sortable("cancel"); causes error. Script allows to move single elements and whole lists.
I want to be able move elements from all lists but disable drop if it's too long.

I couldn't find any in Google or in the JQuery plugin library.I am trying to develop a book like app, where the site manage enters a text as long as he like into CKEditor textbox. the editor of course create tags around the text, and also there might be images inside the text.Then when someone chooses the book (bunch of DIV tags), he gets a book like js (this is working) and i need to populate the book with the content from the DB.
The problem is that i just can't figure a way to split the text into small chunks without destroying tags in the process.Is there a split app in jquery that does that?

Trying to upgrade from JQuery 1.4.3 to 1.6.1. My getJSON queries no longer populate my SELECTs. The below code works perfectly in 1.4.3 but unsure what changes I need to make for 1.6.1.
function populateCause() {
$.getJSON(urlQueries, {sql:'list_causes'}, function(data) {
var select = $('#opencause');
var options = select.attr('options');
[Code]....
The ONLY change I made is sourcing JQuery 1.6.1 instead of 1.4.3. Evidently I need to change the method of parsing the JSON data also.

It's my first post/thread here, I haven't been active in forums for some time cause frankly I didn't need it, but this one just got me. I tried everything in my knowledge -and I mean everything, I'm a fanatic trial-and-error tester. Situation: jQuery, posts some data through Ajax collected primarily from a $('#textarea') to a php file on server. If the data is >X Bytes, I get 404 Not Found and the 404 Html page in Ajax error handler. Otherwise, everything runs smoothly and I get my results. I must specify that I post to a php file that loads Wordpress's wp-blog-header.php before doing calculations, as the code is intended to be part of a WPplugin.
I tried to return header("HTTP/1.1 200 OK") as some suggested, considering WP was altering the header for not finding the file as part of the system, and it solved the issue locally for some cases, but not remotly.
I tried to set the Content-Length in ajax call. I switched between the WP type of handling Ajax calls, and having my own .php file, in the folder of my plugin. Nothing worked, but trimming content. What could this be? post_data_size is 8M on server. Could this be maybe related to SSL as I've seen in some cases?

I am using the getJSON command and using firebug for debugging, if I go to this server i setup with this url: [URL] It returns json data warped with getdata({data}). I have validated the json part using jsonlint, so from firebug's net tab I get a param (callback getdata), header and response, etc. as expected. But if I use jquery's getjson, I get param, and header but the response is empty and function callback doesn't trigger (no alert). (I know that getjson uses OPTIONS instead of GETS and I can see that the request is made on the server and the json should be sent as normal).
Here is my code for this section:
<script type="application/javascript">
function getdata(data){
alert(data.name);

After upgrading to jQuery 1.4.1 from jQuery 1.3.2, my getJSON requests fail.The error given to the ajax error handler, is "Invalid JSON: ..." where "..." is the text of the response.Firebug parses the JSON fine, and can display the JSON data as such in its console, and jQuery didn't have an issue with the same data with version 1.3.2.

I would try retrieve some information from a database (and eventually graph it I hope!).
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
<html>
<head>
[Code].....
But if I view the "contents" tab in httpfox I can actually see the data under <sourcetext> I require but there is an XML parse error.
<?xml-stylesheet
href="chrome://global/locale/intl.css" type="text/css"
?>
<parsererror>
[Code].....
The NS_ERROR_DOM_BAD_URI seems to be about cross domain issues but I'm working locally on the actual server so should I be able to access the data? Also why is there an XML parse error when I can see the exact data I want in httpfox's "Content" tab?
