JQuery :: Develop A Dashboard For Reporting On A Large Dataset Of Customers?
Jun 17, 2011
I am trying to develop a dashboard for reporting on a large dataset of customers. When it reports on filtered results it works ok but whenever we filter on something that returns a lot of results (ie. customer without email addresses, or a specific customer type ajax returns blank. I have tested the query and apart from taking a while to return, there is nothing wrong with the query.
[Code]...
This just builds the query dynamically based on the results of the above, ignoring any value that equals "NOFILTER".

I am needing to create a "dashboard" of charts and graphs and have been looking around at all the many different plugins that can handle that. I am wanting to stay away from flash. What is your favorite to use for charts and graphs?

I am extremely frustrated with my current setup developing jquery as I am in Dreamweaver. I've installed the add ons but they dont help enough. My biggest beef is with something that auto-indents to make the structure of the code legible. That and decent colouring. Can anyone recommend something that does all that and potentially even reloads the page on save....and previews in browser...and debugs?

I have a problem with customer website.My script creates an Auto-Greet that overlays the page, displays in the lower left of the browser and remains visible as the user scrolls the page.
My Mockup the customer home page. This is the desired action.http:[url]....Customer website: (undesired action)http:[url]....The only difference is that my customers does not declare a .dtd document.They have a <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">. On my mock-up, I declare a .dtd document and my script works.
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN" "http:[url]...
Question: I'm trying to figure out a way in javacript to dynamically change the <!DOCTYPE, is this possible?

I'm having trouble loading jQuery into SQL Server Reporting Services Report Manager. Since SSRS is a proe-compiles ASPX page, and we are not given the source code, we have little ability to make changes to the interface. If I could add jQuery directly, the progblem would be trivial. However, all we have the ability to modify is an existing Javascript file that is loaded at runtime in the head of each page. I have been able to get this to load relatively reliably using IE 8, but other browsers either don't load it at all, or only on the first pass. Here is the structure that I have in place:

I'm using a .csv file as the basis for a spry dataset in Dreamweaver. I've got it working and the data is getting inserted into a table dynamically. Since there'll be quite a lot of rows in the table, I need some sort of paging controls so the user can see about 10 rows at a time and then page through the rest of the rows.[code]When I test though, I get the following error:"Failed to retrieve data set (dsHospPrivate) for spry:repeat".I wondered if someone could tell me where I'm going wrong? My javascript coding is really limited so I may have copied the wrong code blocks from the example in the abovementioned url.Also, I'm noticing that when the data comes in from the .csv file, any text that has an apostrophe in it, eg. children's - the apostrophe is not being rendered correctly in the browser, ie. it's being represented as a question mark in a triangle.

This issue only happens in FF (IE and Chrome seem to work fine).
I have a Spry paged dataset (at bottom of page with big blue arrows.)
<<WELL I AM NOT ALLOWED TO GIVE URL >>
When I change the page in a paged region (by clicking on arrow), it is refreshed as expected.
But in FF another unrelated DIV above the region is also getting refreshed. Which is annoying to see. I do not want my users to have that experience.
This is stopping me from moving this page to production.

To edit or modify a bookmarklet code, it must be in the form of a multi
line code in a html file or a js file.
But to test or run the bookmarklet, I need to do three things:
1. go to online bookmarklet builder site
2. paste my (multi-line) code there and generate bookmarklet link
3. drag it to toolbar
And I need to go thru these tedious three steps several times because
developing a long bookmarklet (like MyPage) is not like:
write code -test it -done.
but it's like:
write code -test it -it doesn't work. -modify code(put debugging
code) -test it -it still not work -modify code -...
How do you get around with this tediousness? Is there a way to skip the
three steps?

I'm using a .csv file as the basis for a spry dataset. I've got it working and the data is getting inserted into a table dynamically. Since there'll be quite a lot of rows in the table, I'm trying to implement some paging controls so the user can see about 20 rows at a time and then page through the rest of the rows.[code]When I test, The first 20 rows appear but then these 20 rows are repeated another 20 times, so the first 20 rows are duplicated 20 times on the one page, i.e 400 rows are being displayed (if you know what I mean). The paging is also working via the buttons but each of the 20 rows (20 x 20) are being paged simultaneously, and I only want one set of 20 rows to appear at any one time.[code]

Let's say you have a little Ajax script and it sends data to the server to do something. Now the server has an issue of some kind (let's say with the query) and can't so what you expect it to do. What's the best way to tell your awaiting Ajax functionality something went wrong?

I am not quite sure where to place this question since it involves C#, javascript and even a call to SSRS. What I want to do is call a Sql Server Reporting Services Report, using javascript like so:
ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(GetType(), "FrameUpdate", "<script language="JavaScript">" + "
" + "cursor_wait();" + "
" + "window.location.href ="[URL]" + ViewState["ANumber"].ToString().Trim() + "&BNumber=" + ViewState["BNumber"].ToString() + "&Sort_Param=" + ViewState["sortField"].ToString() + "&Sort_Direction=" + ViewState["sortDirection"].ToString() +"&rc:Toolbar=false&rs:Command=render&rs:Format=PDF&rs:Zoom=Fit Page'; " + "
" + "cursor_clear();" + "
" + "<" + "/script>");
The code works and I can pull the correct report. The issue is I wanted some visual que for the user that the report was being generated. that is why i used the javascript functions : cursor_wait(), and cursor_clear().
The problem is I want to display a wait cursor until the window with the report returns and displays the report then reset to the default cursor at that time. But the above code resets the cursor right away without waiting for the report to return. I tried adding attributes to the page form and other methods to access onBlur and such but haven't been able to get there yet.

This is quite mysterious. I have several list items like this:
HTML Code:
<li>Private</li>
I am looping through them all trying to get the text inside each list item for a comparison with a string from elsewhere.
Javascript Code:
var coresubmenu = document.getElementById('core').getElementsByTagName('li');for (var i = 0; i < coresubmenu.length; i++) { coresubmenu[i].onclick = function() { if (this.firstChild.nodeValue == 'Private') { // fail } alert(this.firstChild.nodeValue.length); // alerts 8 }}
IE alerts one more than the actual length in all cases. Google hasn't brought anything up for me on this one - any ideas?

I was trying to develop something where on hover of a paragraph the background colour of a div tag that contained all the content changed correspondingly.So the html is something like this:
Code HTML4Strict:
<div id="container">
<p>Change the colour</p>
</div>
I did something simple first where the text colour of the paragraph changed on hover of that paragraph. Now that works completely fine. Here is the code:
Code HTML4Strict:
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>[code].....
but it does not work .get the latter code working so that the background of the container will change on hover of a paragraph?

It seems like determining element position in a web page is a difficult
task. In the position reporting source code I've looked at there are
special fixes for at least some versions of Safari and Opera. I am
doing a lot of dragdrop experimentation and in some situations need a
position reporting function. The function doesn't need to report the
positions of exotic elements like images in button elements; however, I
would like a position reporting function that can at least handle
combinations of scrollable elements and tables....

I am new to jQuery and I am trying to create an autocomplete textbox. When I use a small test database, it works fine but when I use my production database with over 3000 records, it slows to a crawl. It take >20 seconds to load the page and with each letter I type (even though I set minChars to 3), the browser times out asking if I want to continue running the script. My feeling is I need to use AJAX but I have never done that and don't know how to. I code in classic ASP with an Access database. Can anyone provide some sample code how to do this. Unfortunately I am under a time pressure to complete this project.

'm coming from the Java/Flex world and trying to get my mind around jQuery/HTML5 to evaluate how you would build a large scale application using them. One issue that I can't quite grasp is how to deal with HTML element IDs. My understanding is that jQuery allows you to manipulate HTML elements by referencing them by ID (there are other ways but those seem to require grabbing a list of elements and sorting through them to find the right one) In a large application with namespaced code how do you deal with dynamically created elements and the IDs the elements may contain?
For example, lets say you have a dashboard app that can contain a number of reports, each report is basically a div with the report content (a chart or table) and some associated views that can edit the report's data model. How can I assure that IDs for the report's subcomponents don't collide with IDs elsewhere in the application? I can envision some programmer working on a large project in a team naming a custom widget 'MyWidget' and then some other programmer naming their widget 'MyWidget' effectively causing two 'MyWidget' IDs to be assigned to different elements.
In the OOP world this isn't an issue because programmer one's widget is really something like MyForm.MyDiv.MyWidget and programmer two's widget is MyForm.MyOtherDiv.MyWidget allowing them to have unique names.
This could just be a fundamental misunderstanding of how things work in HTML but from what I've done every ID assignment is basically a global variable.

I have approximately a 400-500 row table (2 of them) each with 12 columns of formatted content such as currency, percentage, name.
I tried this with [url] but it can't seem to handle that much data.
Does anyone have a good plugin for large data on the page? (and no not interested in paginating it really)
