JQuery :: Apostrophe's Causing Selectors To Fail In IE 6 & 7?

I have a situation where i need to locate a radio button by it's value and check it. The solution below works in all browsers. However, in IE 6 & 7 (not 8), if there's an apostrophe it blows up.It's happening for me in both jQuery 1.6.4 and 1.7.1. Here's an example. var diagnosis = "Huntington's Disease"; $(...).find('input[value="' +diagnosis+ '"]').attr('checked','checked'); I've tried diagnosis.replace("'","'") and that seems to have no affect.

I am using ASP.NET for data retrieval and jQuery to perform various functions/animations (error bar, slide menu, table sorter, etc...). Everything is working great until the pages are viewed over and SSL connection. When viewing over SSL, some of the margins/padding stops working and the hover effects on tables stop working correctly (leaving cells coloured, not colouring others). After spending a day looking for the solution in Google, I haven't found anything that will fix the issue. No errors/warnings are displayed on the page.

In my form I have an email textfield. Whenever the user enters an email
address the form gets automatically submitted using JavaScript. However,
when a user enters in an email that contains an apostrophe eg:

Whoever allowed apostrophes to be valid within emails needs some talking to!
Anyway. I have just found out that this JS function I have been using and have no idea how it works does not allow emails with apostrophes in it. Does anyone know how to alter this code to allow apostrophes?

I've recently added Cufon to a site and generated a font that includes the WordPress Punctuation option. [URL]
However when I try and use an apostrophe in the text it does not appear on the page.
As a potential fix, I tried inserting ' into the HTML tab of the page via the WP dashboard. It works in Firefox. Cufon displays an apostrophe.
However, in Internet Explorer it displays the code and not the apostrophe.

we had someone write this script for us a few years ago and we thought it was working fine until this week. It uses javascript to generate a dependant drop down menu eg. Depending on what the user chooses in the first drop down menu, (in this case a manual/book title) the second drop down displays the chapter/category headings that are available within that manual and then the users uploads a file that appears under that heading.
If our user adds a chapter/category heading with an apostrophe in it the script quits and the second drop down does not display the corresponding chapter headings. We are storing the info in a mysql database and use php and javascript to extract the data/build the drop down menus. Code:

I'm trying to add some functionality to a existing application. I have no control over the input element ids. There are inputs I need to use that have $ in the id <input id='field1$0'>. Trying to use the id selector $('#field1$0') fails (result is undefined).Is this a bug or "by design" in qQuery?Is there a workaround, other than looping thru all inputs to find the ones I need?

I have a html list displayed in a div and I want to make the list cycle through items, i.e the first item in the list becomes the last item while the second one becomes the first, and this should continuously happen.
I wrote a small bit of jQuery to accomplish this, but the problem with this code is that is causes the block to continuously resize vertically. Does anyone know of a correction I could make to the code below to remove this glitch. Here is what I have written.

The links at the top load XML/file/content into the DIV. This works ok.I then want the images (from 2nd link) draggable to the right hand menu. It doesn't work.However if I select everything, view source code, save the file and view it (http://9publishing.co.uk/ test/ xml /jquery/jj.asp ) it works fine!

JQuery slideshow works in dream weaver but doesn't work at all in the browser. I can't even see the pictures of the controllers for the slideshow. I can see the first image in it and thats about it as you have to click on a button to get the second menu button. It is the one at the following website [URL]. I took out the background and changed the dimensions to 900 and other than that left it the same I don't understand the issue.

I believe I'm having an issue with the jQuery Cycle plugin. For the duration of the occurrence of a transition, the page appears to be "jumping" due to the fact that the site content is centered vertically and horizontally and the transition is making (inactive) scrollbars disappear entirely. I have not witnessed this personally in Safari/Firefox on Mac or Firefox/IE8 on Windows, but a colleague took a video of it happening on their machine with Firefox (Mac). Some see this problem, and others don't—I haven't been able to narrow it down. I am implementing a fairly large Javascript file that has many if/than's that decide whether to load new content into div's. I have noticed this is causing high client side CPU utilization. Is there any better way to do this besides having the example script below repeated many times... i need to keep CPU usage down.

In order to allow users to filter content, I've created a small checkbox list. To each checkbox is attached an ID, and too some divs on the page are attached these id's too (in the class attr that is); one div can be attached to multiple id's, and so have multiple classes.
In order to show or hide my div's I wrote :

I have 2 fixed divs in the site I'm developing. One of them is just a tab and the other div is a contact panel. These divs alternate - if the user clicks on the tab, the tab is hidden, and the panel shows and vice versa. Everything works great. Except that when I click on the link to hide either tab or the panel, the page behind it scrolls to the top. I would like the panel to show/hide but for the page behind it to be unaffected.

I am using a timer to fadeOut and fadeIn some articles such that 5 articles are displayed in rotation.However, for some reason the call to fadeIn or fadeOut is causing the page to change it's y scroll position. If I am currently at the bottom of the page, the fadeIn call causes the page to scroll up.

I have a very simple image rotator that brings in images then rotates through them using fadein/out.
You can see it going here: [URL]. If you scroll down to the bottom of the page then wait a few seconds the main image will rotate and the browser will jump up (almost as if it's going to an anchor).
The images are brought in to a 100% div and the images are specified to 100% width (not sure if this is related but I'd thought i'd let you know!).

I noticed that image anchors do not work when using the lite version of jQuery Cycle(jquery.cycle.lite.min.js) . I am referring to this example: [URL]
I copied all the code from the example and couldn't get it to work, out of desperation I switched to using jquery.cycle.all.js and the anchors instantly began working. It seems the lite version only drops the opacity on inactive slides, because clicking any slide uses the anchor href from slide 1.
EDIT: Just tested with the other versions of Cycle, and found all the other versions of cycle work flawlessly.. curious :

jquery.cycle.all.min.js *works*

Writing a sortable list function. My <li> elements contain several items (headings, paragraphs etc) and I want to add a class to the headings when they've been sorted. I have this code in my sortable init:

This adds class="editable" to my newly-sorted <li> element - cool. What I want, though, is to add this class to the <h3> within my <li>. I tried:

but this just gave a syntax error.

I found that certain selectors work in all browsers except IE 8 and they need to modified. This selector pattern seem to work well in all browsers, including IE 8: jQuery("input[class='class_name'][type='text']") But this identical selector works in Firefox, Safari but not in IE 8: jQuery("input.class_name:text") In IE 8 it returns a "property not found" javascript runtime error. I don't know whether that the actual issue or if it is a side effect of some memory leak.
