I'm building some forms, and when they are submitted, I'd like to integrate a method that will fade out the screen a bit, and show an animated "processing" .gif. Basically when the "submit" button is pressed, the form is being submitted to it's destination. The page will hang on the form until the next page is ready to load. While it's hanging there after submitting, I'd like the screen to fade out, and display an image in the center of the screen. I'm hoping this can be achieved with CSS, as I try to use as little Javascript as possible.What's the best way to achieve this? I figure if anything a javascript "onsubmit" function will be a good start. Can the screen be faded with CSS?

I was using a piece of javascript function that I found online(unfortunately, I lost the source of this function), which basically provides the screen size. I added a few more lines to use that function so that when the user change the window size, the content div resizes as well.(didn't want the user to scroll down or sideways). Everything works except when I resize the height, IE freezes. Here's the function I am using:
Code:
function resize()
{
var contentHolder = document.getElementById('content') ;
var availW ;
var availH ;
if(document.all)
{
availW = document.body.clientWidth;
availH = document.body.clientHeight;
}
else
{
availW = innerWidth;
availH = innerHeight;
}
contentHolder.style.width = availW - 35 + "px" ;
//contentHolder.style.height = availH - 250 + "px" ;
}
The last commented line works fine in firefox and opera, which is supposed to resize the div so that all the contents are within the browser window and the user doesn't have any scrollbar. But as I mentioned, it's not working in IE. IE resizes the width properly. Any idea why IE is having trouble resizing the height? Please let me know if you think there's a better way of doing this.

I am writing up a page to collect user input, and then generate an excel file.
The generation of the excel file is slow (more than 30 sec), so I decide to separate the input stage and file creation stage.
What I do is, collect user input, save to mysql, and pass a url (to the page of excel file creation) to javascript. Javascript will be triggered by setTimeout and run ajax to call the url after 2-3 seconds. This is the page structure of how I do it code...
The problem is, when the ajax is called, I cannot navigate around the pages (in the iframe of index.php). There is no error, but seems to be "loading". I have tried to use the same browser window to access the same site on the server, and also other sites on the Internet, to make sure the server is not busy to respond or the network is fully occupied.

I have a select drop down that triggers a change event to update my database. I am new at programming, so hopefully I am overlooking something obvious. My Jquery code actually works as desired to update the database, but when I try to add a overlayed "loading, please wait" message to the user, I can't get it to turn off and the page freezes. debugging the javascript in Firebug, It seems this code returns a 404 status, so it makes sense to me that my overlay will not turn off, but seems strange that the code updates the database as desired. what is wrong with this code? How can I get the overlay to turn off?

I want an div#breadcrumb to animate when some other divs are hovered.
This is my code:
var BrHo = $('#breadcumb') + $('#nKnapper') + $('#Navigation');
BrHo.hover(function(){
$('#Breadcumb').animate({
opacity: '1',
fontSize: '14px',
}, 2000)
}, function(){
$('#Breadcumb').animate({
opacity: '0.1',
fontSize: '10px',
}, 2000)
});
It's not working. It seems like I have to convert BrHo variable to an Array? Is that
right?

i have an animated gif (a circle being filled) as a slidebullet for the active slide. It works just fine when u dont touch the controlls, but if i click another bullet it does not restart the gif animation when switching to the gif on that bullet, so it looks really cheap.. Is there a jQuery (or another) way of restarting the animation from the beginning when manually switching bullet/slide?

I'm trying to get use of the following JQuery example: Animated Boxes Example
So I wrote the following code trying to make a gallery from the example above:
The TestAnimeScroller.js Script is as following:
As you can see from the code above I'm using the webserive only for testing the scroller for ajax calls problems.It has only the Hello World default web method.
However every thing works fine except that the images are shaking abit whilescrolling to the left.I tried many things but it was no use.I prefer to make a scroller from scratch rather than use a plug-in so I could make custom things easily...I'm using Jquery 1.4.2

I am working on my portfolio site and I've come to a bit of a wall. I have a main navigation which, when clicked animates a div containing my content to be visible. I have this working fine but now I want to have external content loaded into this containing div when different navigation items are clicked, which I also have working, but I cannot get these to work together. First off, if the div is not shown I want the appropriate content to be loaded then the div to animate, and if the div is showing, I want it to hide, swap the content then animate. I am sure its just a case of structuring my code properly but I just cant seem to get it right.
Show the div
$(document).ready //content animate show (
function() {
$('.navigation a').click (
function() {
$('.content').stop().animate ({
marginTop : "0px" },{
easing : "easeOutQuint",
duration : 2000
})});})
Hide the div
$(document).ready //content animate hide (
function() {
$('#hide').click (
function() {
$('.content').stop().animate({
marginTop : "200px" },{
easing : "easeInQuint",
duration : 1500
})});})
And finally swap the content:
$(document).ready(function() {
// Check for hash value in URL
var hash = window.location.hash.substr(1);
var href = $('.navigation a').each(function(){
var href = $(this).attr('href');
if(hash==href.substr(0,href.length-4)){
var toLoad = hash+'.php .content';
$('.content').load(toLoad)
}});
$('.navigation a').click(function() {
var toLoad = $(this).attr('href')+' .content';
$('.content').fadeOut('fast',loadContent);
window.location.hash = $(this).attr('href').substr(0,$(this).attr('href').length-4);
function loadContent() {
$('.content').load(toLoad,'',showNewContent())
} function showNewContent() {
$('.content').fadeIn('fast');
} return false;
});
});

On this link you will see my test site:At the moment I am not too happy with the animation on the navigation menu.As you will see as you click quickly through the various links the animation is very jumpy because of the way I have coded it.Also when you click on the gallery page and then select the various gallery images, the animated ball moves all the way to the left.Here is the JQuery code for the animation:
PHP Code:$(function() {//event object (notice it in the parameter list) contains data about the event handled$(".linkbox").mouseover(function(event){//selectedDiv is the clicked object, so you can do what ever u want on the box clicked ;)var selectedDiv = $(this);var divPosition = selectedDiv.position();var divPositionLeft = divPosition.left;$(".circle").animate( {"left": + divPositionLeft}, "100" );})})function movebacka() {Each page has an include file with the nav menu contents, so every time you click a link in the nav menu, a new page has to load, therefor causing the jumpiness in the animation. What are the best ways to resolve these kind of issues.

This is a weird one. I have a page I'm working on, and I made a simple div that slides up to display some content, then slides down, replaces the content and slides back up again. Basically a showy news ticker.
When I created the div/animation code it ran fine. smooth as silk. However, I then decided to move that part of the html into a templated system, where some php reads a second file and outputs the contents into the webpage. (real simple stuff, it uses file_get_contents and echo to output the file contents).
Using this system, it all displays correctly, but the animation is suddenly slow and jerky. This doesn't make sense to me. Why would the animation suddenly become jerky just because the html that creates the divs is now created via php? Surely the php fires long before jquery gets involved - so why would this occur?

I am using the Microsoft.XMLHTTP object to make server requests ie;
ajax. This is working 99% of the time but occasionally it will freeze
at the server for 5 minutes and then raise a javascript exception
"Unknown name".
After the exception I can run the same request ok, and keep doing so
until the next time it freezes for 5 minutes.
What does the "Unknown name" javascript exception mean?
Why does it freeze for 5 minutes?
I can't replicate this on my dev pc, it's only happening in a live
environment with IE6 and 2 load balanced IIS6 servers.

I need to have a series of images cycle in the background, and for each image, text should appear on the right or left side and slide into position. I thought this would be simple but can't really find any information about how to connect these two events. I've done plenty of background image cycling, but never tied a particular image to a particular animated effect. One, can this be done...if so, how challenging is this? And Two, would anyone know of a location of similar stuff. I've seen a bunch of sites that use Flash for this, but it seems like jQuery would be quicker and more robust.

The page I'm working on: [url]
This page shows 4 icons/blocks, if you hover over 1 of them and click in it, the arrow slide down and a box associated with that category appears, then clouds move.
Problem: If you click another box the previous animated arrow stays where it is, and I need it to move back or, even better, reverse it back to where it was.
It would also be nice to have a 1 or 2 second delay before the clouds start moving after the click triggers the animations.
Here is my code:
