View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is a weird one. I have a page I'm working on, and I made a simple div that slides up to display some content, then slides down, replaces the content and slides back up again. Basically a showy news ticker.
When I created the div/animation code it ran fine. smooth as silk. However, I then decided to move that part of the html into a templated system, where some php reads a second file and outputs the contents into the webpage. (real simple stuff, it uses file_get_contents and echo to output the file contents).
Using this system, it all displays correctly, but the animation is suddenly slow and jerky. This doesn't make sense to me. Why would the animation suddenly become jerky just because the html that creates the divs is now created via php? Surely the php fires long before jquery gets involved - so why would this occur?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using LavaLamp [url] for the main navigation on a site I'm building, for a subtle animated effect.
The site itself is a single-page portfolio site with 3 sections organized vertically, "Home," "About," and "Work."
The problem I'm having is that the clicked navigation does not return to its original position on each panel if I double back on it.
For example, if I'm on the Home panel, and I want to get to About, I'll want to select "About." The LavaLamp animation will ease over to the "About" link on hover, and I'll click it, then the page will scroll to the About panel, where "About" in the navigation is being shown as selected (LavaLamp has a "current" class you can apply to whatever you want to start off as being selected)...
And that's great, BUT, say I want to get back to the Home panel. I click "Home" in the nav, and I'm transported back to the Home panel - but when I was there before, I'd selected "About", and since it's all on the same page, the link is focused on "About," even though I'm on the Home panel. Make sense?
I'm not good enough at JS or jQuery to figure out how to fix this. I think what I want to happen is for every link on each panel to STAY where it was originally assigned ("Home" link will stay on Home, "About" link will stay on About, etc.), but animate on hover only.
Is there a way to write something into the LavaLamp JS to make it so the animation works only on hover, and not on active, focus, or visited?
Here's the code, can't provide a demo page, I don't have anywhere to upload it at the moment...

And last but not least, the LavaLamp CSS:

I need to have a series of images cycle in the background, and for each image, text should appear on the right or left side and slide into position. I thought this would be simple but can't really find any information about how to connect these two events. I've done plenty of background image cycling, but never tied a particular image to a particular animated effect. One, can this be done...if so, how challenging is this? And Two, would anyone know of a location of similar stuff. I've seen a bunch of sites that use Flash for this, but it seems like jQuery would be quicker and more robust.
View 4 Replies View RelatedBit of the opposite of what a lot of people seem to be after it seems, but I was wondering if it is possible to make an image "flicker" randomly by randomly changing how transparent it is?The goal is to create a flickering neon sign, but to do it without using flash. I've got the flickering working fine in flash, but just not loading fine without messing things up so I'm hoping I can do it with jquery or even just js.

I'm using Jquery to create a rollover effect on 2 images (placed on top of each other) to fade the bottom image in on a mouseover and out on a mouse out. Clicking the faded in image also opens a fancybox gallery. The problem is that sometimes the animation (the fade in and out) gets stuck after closing the fancybox window and the mouseover doesn't work anymore.
Here's my code for the mouseover:
I am currently using javascript tween to animate my pages so that the content is moved 'up and out' of my screen. Currently it appears to 'fly' out the top of my page. However I have an image header and I do not like the way the animated text goes over it. Is there a way I could change my javascript so when the text moves up and disappears it only goes up say 100px from the top of my screen? I have tried experimenting changing values in the javascript with no joy:
