JQuery :: Sharing A Click Between A Function And A Plugin?
Aug 25, 2011
Following on from my previous question about loading a div based on idI realised I might be overcomplicating it a bit - instead of loading I could instead just show a hidden div which has an id that matches the href of the link and hide all its siblings.I'm using the jmapping google maps plugin, which generates the links I'm using. The idea is you click on a location link and it's identified on the map but alsoa div containing further information appears.My code seems to have hijacked the click event from the jmapping plugin though - the div appears like I want it to, but now the map does nothing. There were no issues with firing both from the link when I used load but show doesn't seem to play as nicely.Is there a way to phrase it differently so that when I click a link both the jmapping plugin and my show code fire and not just one of them?
<script type="text/javascript">$(document).ready(function(){
$('#worldmap').jMapping({
default_zoom_level: 8,
[code]....

I have a bunch of <div>'s on a page, each of which shares a CSS class titled "portlet-header". What I would like to do is retrieve the content inside each of these div's, and then construct a string of each div content separated by a comma. At the moment I can retrieve the total content from ALL of the div's sharing the "portlet-header" class by using:
$(".portlet-header").text()
However, I was hoping that there would be a way of looping through each div of the shared CSS class in turn, constructing a string of the following format:
div content 1
,div content 2
,div content 3
etc...
I had a look at the .each method but couldn't get anything working.

I have a slideshow plugin and there is a function in it called stopAutoplay(). This is called when I click on the pre-defined pause button in the slideshow, so it stops.
If I switch between the slideshows(Slideshow 1 2 3) the slideshow is getting messier and messier because it starts many slideshows at the same time and the plugin gets confused what to show.
I figured if I click on the pause button before I switch to another slideshow it works fine. Therefore what I would like to achieve now is to call stopAutoplay() somehow before I switch to the new slides.
How can I call stopAutoplay() from the html file when I click on one of the slideshow 1 2 3 buttons?
I've tried the codes in green below but they don't work.
fadeSlideShow(); plugin pause function part:
stopAutoplay = function(){
clearInterval(intval);
intval = false;
[Code]....
If there is a better solution let's say to kill everything before the new slideshow appears it's even better. Although I've tried die(), empty(), detach(), remove(). I hoped remove() would help cause as I read it's suppsed to remove everything but for some reasons it doesn't...

I am wanting to avoid loading a seperate instance of jQuery in each of many iframes. For the most part this is working well. The problem I'm having is with the ready event. It does not seem to work properly withina child iframe. parent.$(document).ready(function () { /* this fires before the DOM is ready.*/ });
Based onwhat I have read I am guessing it is firing immediatelywhen called ratherthan waiting for the DOMto beproperly loaded first. I can getwindow.onload to work, but it fires late in the game. Is it possible to get a proper 'ready' event triggered within an iframe without loading a seperate instance of jQuery ?

I have an HTML page which loads another page inside an IFrame. Each of the two pages has its own javascript code.
I would like to be able to define one global variable which will be accessed from functions in both scripts. The variable must be single. That means that if a script in one of the pages changes it, the change will be seen by the scripts in the other page.

Now these click functionallity:

When i use alert() to see the id of the form it give me undefined for: var idElement = $(this).attr("id"); I used the var with parent() too, up 5 parents without results, always say "undefined".
Cant i pass the id from click function to the validation submitHandler plugin ? something like... $('#commentresponder-' + idComment).submit('id=' idComment);

I am using jquerydate pickerwithkeith-wood plugin for multiple selection and multiple months.
i have a division tag that displays the date and besides i have one more division tag that holds an image. when i am clicking on the image division tag i need to show the calender.
i tried $a('#dvDate').datepick({
multiSelect: 90, monthsToShow: 3, monthsToStep: 3,
prevText: 'Prev months', nextText: 'Next months'
});
$a('#dvDateImage').click(function () { $a('#hidDate').datepick("show"); });
with hidden field but it is not working and this is not the one that i exactly want. if i can avoid hidden field and only with div tag then it would have been far better.

I've recently started working with jQuery. Using v1.3.1 and UI v1.6RC6. I created an accordion with another accordion nested within it. I've set both to selectable. Things seemed to be working fine until I noticed that IE and FF were behaving differently. IE allowed me to open the accordion tab that contained the nested accordion, and then allowed me to open up the nested accordion. In FF, I could not open the nested accordion. I managed to get it working in FF by setting the cancel property to li element (which contained the nested accordion). Questions:
1) I traced through the code and didn't see where jQuery unbound the click event that should have been caught by the accordion headers. The only thing that I can see is that the selectable items catch the mousedown event, and when caught create a helper div element at the same position that the mousedown occurred and at z-index 100. I've read elsewhere that a browser registers a click only if the mousedown and mouseup occurred on the same element. Does adding this element fool the browser into thinking there wasn't a click?
2) Following #1. I've read that event bubbling follows the DOM hierarchy - from child to parent, However, is it correct to assume that the target element initially determined by the element with the highest z-index (assuming all different)? Once triggered then event would bubble up ignoring z-index?
3) If #1 and #2 are fairly accurate, does anyone have any idea why IE would seem to still register a click event? Maybe it ignores the fact that another element with a higher z-indez was added and simply compares mousedown/up coordinates?

I am using Table sorter to sort the table. I need sort to work only if i click explicitly on header sort image, not on headers. I am using dynamic column width on headers and whenever the colum is resizing the table sorter is getting called unnecessarily because the click event is getting fired on the header. Do i need to change the $headers.click call in jquery.tablesorter.js page?

I have just added a jQuery fade plugin onto a page to automatically cycle through images in an unordered list without a click event. It works well but when I preview the page with JS disabled all images become visible and it messes up the layout. What I need is a method that works when JS is disabled. I have seen methods where the {display:none} CSS styles are applied then changed via JS but can't figure this out. If anyone can either recommend a decent plugin with provisions for JS disabled browsers

I am using a json from a Google spreadsheet and a jquery plugin which is called throught this HTML line <ul id="example">.The thing is that when I dynamically append elements to the <ul id="example"> from within the JSON callback function, these are not recognized by the jquery plugin
Code:
<form>
<ul id="example">BLA BLA BLA</ul>
</form>
[code]....
If I insert an <ul id="example"> plus some <li> in the HTML code the plugin works perfect If I insert dynamically some <li> to the <ul id="example"> throught a javascrypt function before executing the callback (...json-in-script&callback=...) also work perfect.But when I insert dynamically the <li> elements within the callback function (in my case: cm_loadMapJSON) does not work well.

I am currently working on a project where I am using the jQuery Calculation plugin [URL] to do some math functions in a dynamic form, the issue is that when a new set of fields is created the calculation script only pulls data from the ones there when the page loaded, I am fairly certain that what I need to do is use the live function, however I am not very familiar with it and still learning. My jQuery for the plugin is :
$("input[name^=emem]").sum("keyup", "#totalMem");

I've been using the cycle plugin a lot lately (thanks a tonne,malsup!). I'm trying to write a wrapper plugin for the Cycle plugin that will allow me preload (more accurately, queue load) images for a banner slideshow. I've run into an issue with the cycle.addSlide function... it seems to be adding my slides out of order. Has anybody run into this before? what I'm trying to do: Each image is loaded individually, and once loaded they are added to the DOM via cycle.addSlide.

I want to write a plugin, say 'myPlugin' which I can use like
Code:
$('#myID').myPlugin() ;
$('#myID').myPlugin.test() ;
The plugin I wrote looks like
Code:
(function($){
$.fn.myPlugin = function() {
// do something
} $.fn.myPlugin.test = function() {
var $this = $(this) ;
// do something ;
}})(jQuery) ;
This works and it doesn't work. It works because test() is called, but this is not the element with id '#myID' it is $.fn.myPlugin. To fix this I tried the following
Code:
(function($){
$.fn.myPlugin = function() {
// do something
} $.fn.myPlugin.prototype.test = function() {
var $this = $(this) ;
// do something ;
}})(jQuery) ;
but now the function 'test' is unknown.

I'm trying to implement a dynamic menu using CSS/DHTML/JavaScript. The
menu bar is implemented as hyperlinks so I can use the :hover :active
etc. pseudo-styles.
When moving from one item to another on the menu bar I want to
simulate the user clicking on the menu bar item they've just moved
onto, so the adjacent menu drops down automatically.
So I have something like this:
function MenuBarItemMouseover(menuBarItem)
{
menuBarItem.click();
}
to simulate the user clicking on the adjacent menu.
However it seems the previous menu bar item stays in the 'active'
state and the item that has been moved onto remains in the 'hover'
state.
The css styles are defined in the order: link, visited, hover, active,
and in any case, it works fine if you actually do a mouse click on a
different menu bar item. It seems the programmatic click is not the
same.
Is there anyway of forcing the previous link to 'normal' and the new
link to 'active' using JavaScript? Or is there some other way of
simulating a mouse click?
