JQuery :: Script Does Not Work For Content Async Added To Page?
Jul 29, 2010
I have spent a lot of time googling about this but I'm not sure exactly what to search for. I use jquery ajax to send a request to the server and then new content for a specific div is returned that the script then places in that div. All links with the css class "link" triggers this request.
The problem is that the returned content contains links with the css class "link" and they will not trigger the request. I'm guessing this has something to with that the script does not know about these new links that were added. Because the script runs when the page loads and only knows about the links that were on the original page.
How can I make the script ready for the new ones that are async added into the page?
<script type="text/javascript">
$(".link").click(function () {
$.ajax({
url: $(this).attr("href"),

I am having problems with slideUp/slideDown effects on elements that I add to page with a AJAX callback. slideUp/Down works on elements that are present on the page load, but doesn't work on all elements added later with AJAX.
These items can be added with ajax... Then I have checkboxes that I can filter some items by using jQuery slideUp/Down. If checkbox is clicked some items are hidden or shown. But as said abowe it doesn't affect the newly added items!

I have taken over from a developer who has used javascript to add additional text input boxes to a form so there is no limit to the number of input boxes there can be. I have got a jquery autocomplete function that works fine if the input box is added by the server but the listener doesnt fire when the text box is added client side. As with all things this is part of a much bigger project and I only want to change the smallest possible part (add autocomplete to this text input box) MY QUESTION: is it even possible fo ra jquery listener to fire when the input box has been written client side after the page has loaded? Is there a way to "refresh" a listenerto find the new tag that have been added?

I'm currently working on a project in wich I use a pair of trees. The thing is that one of them is too big and IE6 (it needs to be supported :s ) takes forever to process the tree so I want to load it asynchronously branch by branch using the async version of the tree. The problem is that I want the tree to be a filetree, but when created as async it displays with default style. Is it possible to create an async filetree (without applying the classes "manually")??

I have the Treeview Async working. It does a JSON call each time a LI is opened and gets the sub UL list. Everything works great. However, I want to fire the load event for specific LI so I can load the tree and get & open only certain sub UL lists. How can I fire the load event for just certain LI when using the async treeview?

I added maphilight to an html page. Suddenly, an unrelatedtable at the bottom of the page disappeared. The box is there, but the most of the table won't appear. Click on the bottom of the table, voila.Remove the jquery, it displays fine. The W3C validator OK's the file. Thisproblem is in IE8, not Firefox.
There are 3 wide lines that divide the data inthe 'missing' preformatted table. If I shorten the length of the 1stor 2nd line (the 3rd line doesn't affect it), it displays properly..[URL]But then I got it to display with minor changes to textabove the table. But then it wouldn't. I finally got[URL]to work and[URL] doesn't work. (edit: most of the time, both files don't always display consistently, even on different computers.) They are *exactly* the same file except for the time stamp in the file!
details: I deleted a couple of lines of text above the table and it displayed OK.When adding the internal #java anchorabove the table, that extra text changed how short the 2nd line needed to be to get the table to display. I had to remove about 6 characters from the 2nd line to get the table to show up again.

I have a table that Im hiding during the initial load that has a considerable amount of data. (I dont design'em, I just code 'em).
During the .show, .hide ... functions I would like to display a please wait msg. But I cant seem to find a way to do an async function. As the callback functions only deal with sync ...(I think)

I'm trying to make an ajax post to some php and whenever the user clicks the submit button, it reloads the page and is adding the serialized data to the URL thus breaking the page and giving me an error that I do not have a person selected. I've tried adding "return false;" everywhere I can and it still doesn't work. Here's my code:
// EDIT CONTACT AJAX
$("editForm").submit(function() {
$.post("/ajax/edit-contact.php", $("editForm").serialize(),
function(data) {[code]...
// I've tried adding a "return false;" here and it doesn't work
}
// I've tried adding a "return false;" here and it doesn't work
);

I have a page with a form, that represent questions and the corresponding answers.I defined the minimum questions, answers, and their maximum.So I added a link in the form to add question (along with the minimum amount of answers), and a link per question to add an answer in it.the "click" event for my links is like:
$(document).ready(function(){
$(".addquestion").click(function(event){...});
$(".addanswer").click(function(event){alert("addanswer");...});
});
the code look more like JS, but basically it.adds the html code in the corresponding divs.The problem is the following: if I add a question, it also add a link to add answers to this question, but this link does not fire the event.Did I miss something to add to make it work?I mean the link in html page is exactly the same, I even tried not
changing the part with the int, it still doesn't work.

I'm having a problem where the serialize method isn't serializing form elements that are added to the DOM after the page load. Specifically, when the user clicks on a button some elements are displayed in a dialog that are generated from my server and returned via AJAX. I'm converting from Prototype and didn't run into this problem.

I use both sync and async modes. Before starting any ajax request i display a processing(rotating) gif icon to show that the request is in progress. when i get the response i will hide the animating gif to show that the process has completed. this works fine with async and sync mode of ajax in FF but not in IE.
If i use sync mode. that is AJAX.open('GET','path.php',false); in IE the gif file is not visible because IE is not displaying it. Basically this is also correct because that is the way sync is meant to. If it is sync mode then no other process will take place until the browser gets the response. Were as in async mode the request is threaded so other processes are not affected.
But FF displays the animated gif for both the modes of ajax. and IE displays the animated gif only for async request. If anybody know the reason behind then please post your replies. 'cause i have simplified most of my projects by using sync mode of ajax. But in IE the progress (processing) animation is not visible so the user will not know what is happening till the browser gets the response.
So, i hope that i have to stick with async mode. in sync mode you can write code in a few lines and it is very easy to have various type of functions which could return bool, array, object etc... since you get the result in the LHS... but that is not the case in async mode... we need to do a lot of gimmick to have a prototype of ajax...
also if i could have references to sites which explains ajax in complete detail then i will update my idea of ajax.

It seems like when I load javascript code into a page, that each item I add, such as an accordian vertical navbar, image slider, etc, that each time I add one, the page loads a second or so slower with each one added. I would like some of these features, but is this just a part of life, or are there tricks to avoid the slower load time? It is not major time but after the 2 items I mentioned, it added on about 2 seconds.
I read that $(document).ready(function() might slow me down but I do not see that statement in any of my .js files.
