JQuery :: Putting Received Ajax Data Into Function
Aug 8, 2011
On clicking a thumbnail I'm getting it's corresponding image through $.ajax method. So, the data I receive is in the form of html string i.e. <img src="image/1.jpg"/>.
Now I wanted to append this data into a div which has an id "container". So I done this by:
$('#container').hide().append(data).fadeIn('slow');
I have a function named "resize" which resizes the image according to the window size. Now when i tried this:
// this code is in executed on success.
$('#container').hide().append(data);
resize( $('#container img') );
$('#container').fadeIn('slow');
I had to click a thumbnail twice to load the image into the container. I don't know why is it so. So, I tried a different route. I tried to apply resize function upon the <img> tag received as data and then append it to the container div.
Which I did like this:
resize ($(data)) //alerting $(data).attr('src') shows the src of the image.
$('#container').hide().append(data).fadeIn('slow');
The image loads but it is not re-sized. What should I do? The re-size function I'm talking about, u can see it here: [URL]. Right now, I'm calling the resize function in the callback of fadeIn method, the image fades in and then resizes, but that looks very ..... unprofessional and ugly.

I have hidden form field in a page. I populate it through JS and submit it.The problem is the data is text and it is really huge. The text is around 50000 chars.So when I submit the page no data is received at the backend. I do get the data if it is less i.e if I have few chars, I do get the data in the backend.I have the following Qs:
- - Is there a limitation in the number of characters JS can handle? If yes, What is the limit?
- - Is this happening cause the hidden form field is unable to hold the data? (I dont think this is the case as the other elements like textare etc can hold the data)

I have been tearing my hair out with this for the past 12 or so hours and am no closer to a solution than when I began.
I have a jquery function to dynamically create <li> tags for an unordered list:
$(function() {
var idealist = $('#idealist');
$('.checklist').click(function(event){
item = '';
[Code].....
This is working fine. The problem is I need to somehow pull the ids from each <li> tag into a string or an array that can be made available somehow to php code for further processing. I can create the string or array within my jquery function but can't figure out how to make that available to php.

I have to send a several arrays as query parameters to a Spring server.
The payload I'm trying to send is this:
[Code]...
Please help. This kind of thing is driving me nuts. I hate working with primitive stuff and having to do a lot of redundancy just to get data transmitted. I just want it to work with the domain object model on the server... but there's always these weird exceptions that make that impossible. It's amazing that in 2010, we are still working in basic numbers and arrays and having to take apart and put together data at a primitive level.

I need to parse an HTML string received from an AJAX request. I wrote a function that places the HTML string into an unappended (not added) <div> , which opens the string up to the DOM hierarchy. However, when I try to access the elements of this <div> , I get an error in the console that says root.getElementById is not a function. This tells me that I can't access any of the child nodes.
Here is what my script looks like:
function parseHTML(html) {
var root = document.createElement("div");
root.innerHTML = html;
// The error console stops at this line

I'm trying to write code where an ajax function, at a specified interval, calls php script to query a table and open a certian window according to the response(variable) received. After that, the ajax function will continue to call the same php script but will open another window only if the response or variable is different from the previous request(s). What kind of method should I use to achieve this?

I have Javascript code that looks like this:
var data1;
$.post('save_search.php', formData, function(data) {
data1 = data;
});
jsonData = eval('(' + data1 + ')');
if (jsonData.return_status.search("successful") > -1)
$('#msg_div').html("<font color=red>Search was saved</font>");
else
$('#msg_div').html("<font color=red>Search was not saved. Try saving again.</font>");
"data1" comes up as undefined in the statement
jsonData = eval('(' + data1 + ')');
Even though "data" is a perfectly correct JSON string *inside* the callback function! I can put the eval statement inside the callback function and it will form a good JSON object, like this:
jsonData = eval('(' + data + ')');
I'm simply trying to get my Ajax response data to the outside of my callback function so I can use it in other Javascript code. I've never seen an ordinary function behave this way.

set up a simple Function that allows me to create a thumbnail image viewer with headings and text.
One of the variables is a Hyperlink.
It all works fine but I want the hyperlink to open as a PopUp Window, but not sure how to do it.
My Code
function LoadGallery(pictureName,imageFile,titleCaption,captionText,titleText,textText,titleJob,jobText,title Pricelist,pricelistText)
{
var picture = document.getElementById(pictureName);
[Code].....
but what I want is when you click on the text "Click here to see Gemma's Service Price List" (specific to Gemma of course).
.... her price list opens in a popup?
(If you want to try this Gemma is the Director with the Burgundy haircolour, top left on the page).
P.S. I am using the <div class> and id to pass the variable data through the function and display the enlarged image and relevant text and hyperlink... if that makes sense ?

Hi All, I am trying to program a web based cash register/POS application. I would like to use a function to format the number in the "Amount Received" text box.For Example: if someone typed in 2000 it would automatically change that to 20.00
I would probably be triggering the function via onkeyup so it would actually change it on number at a time. 2->.02, 20->.20, 200->2.00, 2000->20.00 ect.I know I could do it in php when processing the form, but I would really like the number to be already formatted when the form is submitted.

I am using .ajax() to access cross-domain data using JSONP. Because I need to be able to cache the data I want to use a static name for thejsonpCallback function, so I have set the jsonpCallback option in the .ajax() request. However that appears to requires a global function whereas the auto generated function didn't (well maybe it did but that was all hidden from me).
I definitely need to be able to cache the results. Ideally I wouldn't have a global function handling the data. Is there another way to do this? If not what is the best practice way to go about using a global function these days and how do I provide it with the context of the object/module it was called from - which is where the data is needed?

I am still new to jQuery and I am trying to figure something out. I have this code:
[Code]...
This is working fine on itself. What is does is when I click a link it loads data into the following div. When done loading it slides out. But I want to change the appearance of the slide. I have tried to do that like this: $(this).show("slide", { direction: "down" }, 1000); But this doesn't work. When I check firebug it says the following: o.easing[this.options.easing || (o.easing.swing ? "swing" : "linear")] is not a function

I'm implementing a drag and drop newsletter, where my users can drag content to different areas of a template. Depending on where they drop the content, I need to add different HTML attributes to some of the code (essentially need to make the images float:left if they're dropped into a certain box). I've achieved a basic version of this using this code:
$('.review_list').sortable({
receive: function(event, ui) {
// somehow need to make this only apply to competition/
mainfeature
[Code].....
This adds align="left" vspace="4" hspace="4" onto any image dropped into an element with the 'review_list' class (I know I said it was float:left but this code will be emailed so I have to do it old school style...). Anyway: is there a way that I can get the element that has received the sortable item? It could be one of three in my case, and I only want this code to be added for two of them. I guess I could run a cleanup function when submitting that removed this addition for images in the other element, but this seems messier - I had assumed that the 'receive' event would return the receiving element.

I'm using the jquery accordion in order to list all email received/sent. The header (h3+a) shows the object, the content (div) is the mail text.
HTML accordion :
<div id="accordion"><div>
<h3><a href="#">object 1</a></h3>
<div>mail 1 text</div>
</div><div>
<h3><a href="#">object 2</a></h3>
<div>mail 2 text</div>
</div>
<div>
<h3><a href="#">object 3</a></h3>
<div>mail 3 text</div>
</div>
</div>
Accordion script function:
$(function() {
$( "#accordion" ).accordion({
autoHeight: false,
header: "h3",
navigation: true
});
});
I would like to request my SQL database only when i clic on the header of a mail, and avoid to preload all the mails. The other problem, much important in my case, is to mark the mail "read" or "unread". There is a column in the SQL database for this. So, the mail needs to change to "read" state when I click on his accordion's header. Before using accordion, I was using simple link which reloads all the page. I've no problem with PHP/SQL, but I'm not so good in javascript/jquery, or ajax...
SQL request (simplified) :
$sql = "SELECT mail_object, mail_text FROM table_mail ";
$req = mysql_query($sql);
SQL update read-state (simplified) :
$sql_2 = "UPDATE table_mail SET mail_read=1 ";
$req_2 = mysql_query($sql_2);
So, is there any way to execute this code when I click on a header? After that, I'll asking you how to change header style to differentiate read/unread mail (in bold for example, or change background image/color).

i have a series of <select> fields. The first one, via ajax(), generates a 2nd one, based on the first ones' data with the .change() method. there is then a 3rd <select> - who's data will depend on choice of the second one although step 1 works, and i can generate the 2nd one, i still can't generate the 3rd one.
when i test the script on its own, both the 2nd and 3rd <select> fields are fine - but not via the ajax, which leads me to believe that the .change() from the 2nd one, isnt triggering the ajax call - its not being picked up (even the 'hello' alert isnt working).

I have a link and i am putting the id in href.
Code:
<a href="12345" id="myLink">link</a>
In IE 8.0.6 and 6.5 (not my machine but on coworkers machine) when link gets clicked, i get full path including the ID like "http://www.domina.com/folder/12345" where as on my machine i get the ID only when i do
Code:
myval = $("#myLink").attr("href");
When i move the ID to rel attribute, the browsers behave as intended.
Code:
myval = $("#myLink").attr("rel");
same version of IE on my machine is behaving ok where as on coworkers machine it is not. Am i doing some thing wrong here?

I am trying to find a way to get more than one characters pasted on html text field (input type=text), using onkeydown or onkeypress, I am NOT interested in onkeyup(it works), so please do not suggest me this solution. Also I am not interested in Jquery, I do not like to use it. I need solution to work with all browsers.
I am able to do that if you type one character, by taking the character of the event, but till now I am unable to get group of characters come from the paste (ctrl+V) or by mouse.You can look at Facebook search menu that shows auto complete results, it works on events: onkeydown and onkeypress and you notice that you get the result before you release your finger, try to paste something (more than one character) and you get the result before releasing finger, how? Onkeypress and onkeydown do not show first thing you paste or type because they happen before the text being added to text field.
Code:
<input type="text" id="targetTextField" onkeydown="CapturePastedString(this.id)" /> <script> function CapturePastedString(id){ var targetTextField=document.getElementById(id); // below I need to capture the pasted string like: var pasted_string= function(){.....} targetTextField.value=pasted_string; } </script>

I have a few input and textarea fields and when the submit button is pressed, I use $.ajax to send the data to a PHP script, which in turn, simply prints the data, which in turn is displayed in an alert msg box back in my callback. (The script will eventually load the data into a database but for simplification this is all it does for now).
The only problem, is that the $.ajax encodes/escapes special characters automatically and I can't figure out how to decode/unescape them to make them usable again. Here is the javascript (I simplified it to make it easy to understand):
$.ajax(
Here is my php ajax script (super simple)
So anyways, everything appears to work fine. I enter some info into 'myTextArea', and press submit. The script sends it to the PHP script, which it turn returns the same value and the javascript puts it in a message box.
So the problem specifically is if I send special characters like any of the quotes ' " (single or double quotes). Lets say my text area had this text in it: It's My "Birthday"
$.ajax sends the following data: It's My "Birthday"
So how do I unescape this? Ya, I could simply replace all backslashes, but I assume there are other characters it may escape in special ways I'm not sure about. What is the proper way to do it?
The only possible way I could figure out to do this was to use escape($('#myTextArea').val())
So the data gets sent as: It%27s%20My%20%22Birthday%22
And then use the PHP command "urldecode" on the other end. It turns out correct that way. However, that doesn't seem like the proper way to do it. Javascript 'escape' command was meant for escaping characters for sending GET variables and for sending formatted URLs. Not for text and input forms. Is there a better/more proper way?

Currently, I'm building a website with jQuery. The function below helps me to get content from a database. In the file content_ajax.php there are some functions to handle ajax-requests. JS calls the PHP-function correctly (I've send an email to myself inside that function to check) but the script doesn't return 'succes' and doesn't give me an error...Also, when I put an alert inside the succes and error function, it doesn't popup!
What may be relevant: - site uses mod_rewrite for friendly url's
