Can I Play A Repetitive Sound And Test Response Time In JS?

Jul 23, 2005

I want to play a repetitive sound, and have a user click on a button each
time it plays (say 5-10 times) and measure how far off he is from the
sound each time.

The only way I know to play a sound in JS is bgsound, and I know how to
loop and pause, so as to do the 1st part. I haven't figured out how to
then test the delay in response. Since some of the responses may also be
*before* the sound plays by some milliseconds, that also compicates it.

My real question is, can this even be done in JS, or should I be in PHP,
ASP, or do you have another suggestion. I'm thinking it needs to run
client-side so there are no network delays, and the results would be
reasonably accurate on different machines. I could easily write it in VB
but I don't want them to have to download anything. I'd just like it to
run from the page.

Once Set A Private Variable, Test That Object Independently Becomes A Nightmare As The Next Test Is Polluted By The Actions Of The Previous?

Mar 14, 2009

I'm using the standard module pattern and the problem is once you set a private variable, trying to test that object independently becomes a nightmare as the next test is polluted by the actions of the previous.So, the options are to have some reset method (which is horrible), setters on everything (defeats the point) or delete object and re-load script (hideous).

I set up the following code to check how many days have elapsed since a file has been uploaded:

alert("Days since file was uploaded="+diff); My problem is that modified.getTime() doesn't work. Apparently the result of Oxml.getResponseHeader('Last-Modified') is a string, such as Sun, 21 Nov 2010 21:17:49 GMT. I tried and tried - but couldn't get to make a proper date out of this.

JQuery :: Hit Test - Detect If Two Objects Collide?

Jul 20, 2010

I'm trying to find a method which takes two objects as arguments and returns true if they are overlapping and false if they are not. I know this is available in Flash and is know as a hitTest.I'm surprised i haven't been able to find this already, so i'm guessing it's out there, i just don't know how to find it. If i cant find it i'll write one and make it available.ultimately what i'm trying to do is detect when an object moves into view in the view port when it was previously off screen somewhere, just like the discussions at the bottom of jquery documentation pages which load dynamically as the page is scrolled.

JQuery :: Plugin - Function (Prototype) Test Unknown

Jan 8, 2010

I want to write a plugin, say 'myPlugin' which I can use like
Code:
$('#myID').myPlugin() ;
$('#myID').myPlugin.test() ;

The plugin I wrote looks like
Code:
(function($){
$.fn.myPlugin = function() {
// do something
} $.fn.myPlugin.test = function() {
var $this = $(this) ;
// do something ;
}})(jQuery) ;

This works and it doesn't work. It works because test() is called, but this is not the element with id '#myID' it is $.fn.myPlugin. To fix this I tried the following
Code:
(function($){
$.fn.myPlugin = function() {
// do something
} $.fn.myPlugin.prototype.test = function() {
var $this = $(this) ;
// do something ;
}})(jQuery) ;
but now the function 'test' is unknown.

I'm doing some simple tests and I can't get this to work on a wordpress site. Basically I'm trying to fadeOut a div with id of "box" when a link is clicked. I mentioned Wordpress because the head code is loaded dynamically into the page template, as well as the body content. I wasn't sure I this made a difference in diagnosing the problem.
