JQuery :: Event Handler For Element Repositioning Via Browser Layout Change?
Mar 31, 2010
it's possible to bind a function to an element that is fired if that element is 'moved'/repositioned via the browser.
For a more specific example what I have is a function that calculates height and width of certain elements to allow them to all fit nicely on the page without having scroll bars, and this is bound to the window onresize event. It works nicely most of the time but occasionally something will change the height of one of the elements and this effectively bumps one element right off the page.
So I'm wondering if its possible to have an event bound to an element that is fired when an elements position is moved/recalculated by the browser? Short of polling every second or so, to see if it has moved/recalculate layout.

I'm trying to change a word in an animated collapsible div script from Dynamic Drive. When clicking "Hide" I want the word to change to "Show". I have part of the script, but it's not working correctly - it just removes "Hide" when clicking on it. See the example here.
The code so far is this:animatedcollapse.ontoggle=function($, divobj, state){ //fires each time a DIV is expanded/contracted
//$: Access to jQuery
//divobj: DOM reference to DIV being expanded/ collapsed. Use "divobj.id" to get its ID
//state: "block" or "none", depending on state
if ($('#'+divobj.id+'-toggle').length==1){ //if toggle link has id 'divid-toggle' defined
if (state=="block")
$('#'+divobj.id+'-toggle').prepend('<span class="prefix">Hide </span>')
else
$('#'+divobj.id+'-toggle').find('span.prefix').remove()
}}
I'm totally new to jQuery.

Its a very convoluted title, but not sure how to phrase it.I'm using the latest version of jquery. i have a function that creates a new row given an onchange event for the primary select box. This new row contains another drop down box that i want to bind another onchange event. Problem is when the child drop down change event is triggered, if there are multiple children, the alert pops up for the number of children that it has.. horrible explanation heres the code:
Code:
$('#perph_type').change(onSelectChange);
function onSelectChange(){

I'm trying to write a cross-browser (IE and firefox) event handler for
the mousewheel. Basically my web app is an image viewer, so if you
scroll "down" with the wheel the next image should be displayed and if
you scroll "up" the previous image should be displayed.
So far I have:
function handleMouseWheel(e)
{
if (!e) e = window.event;
if ( e.wheelDelta <= 0 || e.detail > 0) { changeImage(1); }
else { changeImage(-1); }
}
This code works in IE and in Firefox to the desired effect. The
problem I am having is with registering the event handler.
The following works for IE:
document.onmousewheel = handleMouseWheel;
And the following works for Firefox:
window.addEventListener("DOMMouseScroll", handleMouseWheel, false);
But when I add the firefox event handler to my code, IE chokes with an
error "Object doesn't support this property or method".
What do I need to do to "hide" the firefox event handler code from IE?

I have a table with a date field in each row:
The table, and the input id element, are dynamically created from database records and I use jQuery live to initialize the datepicker for each field, like so:
The idea is that when I click in the input field, the datepicker pops up and allows the user to input a date. While the date shows in the input field in the table, the value attribute of the input field is empty. I can't use the getDate() method on the datepicker, since I can't programmatically connect the datepicker element in any particular row with the input element in that row. I tried the onClose method shown below, but that doesn't work either. Has anyone done this successfully?

I'm having a problem in identifying the current element. I have a for loop, within which i'm creating a 'TD' and then a 'A' (anchor). I have added an eventListener (onclick event) to the <a>, which invokes a method. The problem is i'm unable to identify on which <a> the user has clicked. extracted code:
Code:
for(i=0; i < count; i++)
{
....
....
var td2=document.createElement('TD');
// Add title
var title = document.createElement("a");

I have created some code that alerts me the contents of all the child divs inside a main div
function CheckEventLayout(){
//check all divs in area and resize overlapping divs
var RunOnce;
if( RunOnce != true ){
var StartTimes = new Array();
var EndTimes = new Array();
var i = 0;
$("div#day-view-overlay").children("div.day-view-appointment").each(function(){
var DoOnce;
if( DoOnce != true ){
alert($(this).html()); .....
CheckEventLayout();
The problem is this code is on a page that is loaded via post and if you go off the page and then back onto it jquery seems to attach the function again so it runs twice. So need to unbind this function before the script runs again.

The problem:
I have an XHTML STRICT page which has some event listeners attached for onload and resize. I'm doing a bit of Javascript DHTML on these events. When a user changes the browser font size, the javascipt function needs to run. Although the TOPMENU DIV gets resized when the font changes size, its not a page resize so the function doesn't get run. I fixed this in IE6 by using a second function which is run onload and sets an event on the div object in the page after its been defined.
Problem is this doesn't work in Firefox.
Mozilla DOM reference says there is no resize event on a DIV so is there a work around to make it work in FIREFOX? i.e. can I force a resize event to happen on a div in firefox or is there some other event I can trap when a user changes the browser font size?
here's my js code: topmenu is what I'm trying to trap the resize event from.
this code is loaded in the head of the page.
function maindiv(){
estartup=document.getElementById("startup");
econtain=document.getElementById("contain");
emain=document.getElementById("main");
etopmenu=document.getElementById("topmenu");
emaincontent=document.getElementById("maincontent");
nopx = document.childNodes ? 'px' : 0;
contw = document.body.clientWidth - 80;
conth = document.body.clientHeight - 80;
if (contw < 0) { contw = 0;}
if (conth < 0) { conth = 0;}
econtain.style.width = contw+nopx;
econtain.style.height = conth+nopx;
if (conth >= 100 + etopmenu.clientHeight) {
emain.style.height = (conth - etopmenu.clientHeight - 100 )+nopx;
}
if (contw >= 172) {
emaincontent.style.width = (contw - 172 )+nopx;
}
estartup.style.visibility = 'hidden'
}
function fsize() {
etm=document.getElementById("topmenu");
if (typeof window.addEventListener != 'undefined')
{
etm.addEventListener("resize", maindiv, false);
}
else if (typeof document.addEventListener != 'undefined')
{
etm.addEventListener("resize", maindiv, false);
}
else if (typeof window.attachEvent != 'undefined')
{
etm.attachEvent("onresize", maindiv);}
else
{
window.alert('Failed to attach an Event Listener
Please Report');
}
}
if (typeof window.addEventListener != 'undefined')
{
window.addEventListener("load", maindiv, false);
window.addEventListener("load", fsize, false);
window.addEventListener("resize", maindiv, false);
}
else if (typeof document.addEventListener != 'undefined')
{
document.addEventListener("load", maindiv, false);
document.addEventListener("load", fsize, false);
document.addEventListener("resize", maindiv, false);
}
else if (typeof window.attachEvent != 'undefined')
{
window.attachEvent("onload", maindiv);
window.attachEvent("onload", fsize);
window.attachEvent("onresize", maindiv);
}
else
{
window.alert('Failed to attach an Event Listener
Please Report');
}
Any clues?

I'm creating a drop down menu so that when a user clicks on the drop down arrow and then hovers over one of the options, a bubble comes up and does a validation. The thing is that everything works fine in Firefox, but not in IE or Chrome. The problem is that the .mouseover() function doesn't work on the <option> tags in IE and Chrome, but it works fine in Firefox because apparently FF is the only browser that supports it.

My plan is to create a JavaScript class, with some functions and variables, and one of the functions is called when a user clicks on a certain element. However, I need to find out the ID of the element that was clicked (in the example, that of the <p>) for further processing. It looks basically like the following:
[Code]...
The result was very crazy, because console.log(this) gave me the node as result, and console.log($(this)) did the same only as jQuery node, but trying to find out the attribute via jQuery gave undefined as result. I haven't checked if this.id would work (should probably), but I'd prefer to keep the whole script in jQuery, if possible. I suspect it may be an overusage of the 'this' keyword, but if so, what's the proper way to do it?

i'm looking for the best way to use global properties that defined at class level insid event handler functions.
for example :
function MyClass() {
this.v1 = "hello";
this.v2 = {name: 'joe', age:'30'};
this.link1 = $("<a/>", {id: "link1"});
[Code].....
actually, in link1Handler 'this' returns to link1 not to main class. so how to get class properties or functions inside the private functions of the same class?

I have a <div> containing 3 buttons. The buttons have id's like this:
Button 1: btnFoo
Button 2: btnBar
Button 3: btnBaz
I'd like to add an click event to each button to call a function named [button ID]_click():
i.e.
btnFoo_click()
btnBar_click()
btnBaz_click()
So far I have this:
$("#divButtons button").each(function() {.
$( this ).bind("click",function(){
eval(($(this)[0].id) + '_click()');
});
});
This works but is there a way without having to use eval and still utilizing the lovely .each function?
