JQuery :: Custom Attribute In Serialized Array?
Aug 14, 2010
Is it possible to store other attributes than id and value of an input to a serialized array?Example:
html field:
<input type="text" name="NOT1NO" id="NOT1NO" value="1" custom="test" />
Using serializeArray creates array like
[
{
name: NOT1NO
[code]....

I'm using the jquery in place editor, and I need to get the value of a custom attribute in order to send it with the form. The jquery I have is as folder... (the bit I'm having trouble with is highlighted)
$(".edit").editInPlace({
url: "./server.php",
params: "folder=" + $(this).attr('folder')
//show_buttons: true
//$('.edit').attr('folder')
});
And the html is as follows:
<span class="edit" folder="folderName">text to edit</span>
As you can see, I need to get jquery to get the attribute 'folder' value, in this case the value returned would be 'folderName'.

I have been learning jQuery and have been loving it so far. But can't figure out how to do the following...
1) Find the <a> inside a <ul> that has an active class.
2) Grab the value from the parent <li> and put it into a variable to be used elsewhere.
Here is the example markup...
<ul id="carousel">
<li class="carousel-item" carouselindex="1">
<a href="/someurl"><img src="/someimg" alt="" /></a>
</li>
<li class="carousel-item" carouselindex="2">
<a class="active" href="/someurl"><img src="/someimg" alt="" />
</a></li>
</ul>
So, in this example, I'd like to return a variable that = 2.

Here's what I'm trying to do:
1) I get reference to a div that's on my page:
var theDiv = $("#" + divID);
2) Now I want to add a custom attribute tag to it, so for instance I want to add "winWidth" so that the div object now contains "winWidth=" for instance.
3) I want to set winWidth now since it's part of theDiv to a value
I'm not sure how to really do 1 + 2. I need to do this on the fly because some javascript logic later will add these attributes dynamically to the div... outside of what the original div had...I don't care what it had, I know I have it now in a JS variable and now I want to both add some new attributes to the div, and then set them on the fly. I don't need these attributes to be on my page, I just need them added to my div variable reference.

I'm using jquery with wordpress to display custom fields for rollovers.
The issue that I'm having is that I'm using the same div class to dynamically pull images from custom fields with in a post. when I do this, every time I rollover one image all the images switch to their rollover state. I figure I need an array to get them to function individually.

I'm trying to make an ajax post to some php and whenever the user clicks the submit button, it reloads the page and is adding the serialized data to the URL thus breaking the page and giving me an error that I do not have a person selected. I've tried adding "return false;" everywhere I can and it still doesn't work. Here's my code:
// EDIT CONTACT AJAX
$("editForm").submit(function() {
$.post("/ajax/edit-contact.php", $("editForm").serialize(),
function(data) {[code]...
// I've tried adding a "return false;" here and it doesn't work
}
// I've tried adding a "return false;" here and it doesn't work
);
// I've tried adding a "return false;" here and it doesn't work

I have the following array that contain the people who are on off on certain time:
var all = [
["1234", "Jim", "2011-10-23 00:00:00", "2011-10-25 07:00:00"],
["1235", "Jack", "2011-10-21 00:00:00", "2011-10-21 08:00:00"],
["1236", "Jane", "2011-10-11 00:00:00", "2011-10-11 00:30:00"],
["1237", "June", "2011-10-20 00:00:00", "2011-10-20 12:00:00"],
["1238", "Jill", "2011-10-14 00:00:00", "2011-10-14 11:00:00"],
["1239", "John", "2011-10-16 00:00:00", "2011-10-16 10:30:00"],
["1240", "Jacab", "2011-10-19 00:00:00", "2011-10-20 08:30:00"]
];
The above array, I wish to use javascript to insert into the FullCalendar [URL]. I notice that the only way seems to be using the FullCalendar array style (or structure) as follows:
$('#calendar').fullCalendar({
events: [{
title : 'event1',
start : '2010-01-01'
},
{
title : 'event2',
start : '2010-01-05',
end : '2010-01-07'
},
{
title : 'event3',
start : '2010-01-09 12:30:00',
allDay : false // will make the time show
}]});
So, the question is: How do I insert my array to match with the FullCalendar array? : cause FullCalendar array had a different array structure from my array - and I don't think so that I can write in this way:
$('#calendar').fullCalendar({
events:all
});

I have created a class array (or variable that contains an array) and am trying to add an element to the array when a new Element object is created. Thus, the line of code to add a new element to the array is within the Element object's constructor function. However, the browser just gives me an error "object expected on line 9", the line of code trying to add an element to the array.
Are arrays not functional within objects? Or, is it that the array is made as a class variable?
Code:
function Element() {
// INSTANCE VARIABLES
this.name = "newElement" + Element.total_elements_created; // GIVE UNIQUE NAME
// INITIALIZATIONS
Element.element_count ++; // INCREASE TOTAL NUMBER OF ELEMENTS EXISTING

I am trying to set up a chat window in my website. Pretty much I have the main page, and a pop-out child page that contains the chat. I want users to be able to change pages on the main page, but the issue is that when they change the page, the reference to the child page (where the chat is) is lost, is there a way to make the window object persistent such as serializing it and putting it in a cookie? It looks like JSON is made for like functions, but can't really serialize a window object.

i have found a possible bug in 1.4 but it's only in Internet Explorer 7 & 8.The following code does not work and completely ruins every peice of jquery on the page (that means everything inside $(document).ready and anyting else...
$("<div/>",{
id: 'tooltip-'+rand,
class: 'dock-tooltip',
[code]....
I cant see any syntax errors - i pulled the example from the 1.4 site. There is no trailing commas in the object notation and i really cant see any reason it would work in firefox and not IEx and more to the point not only not work in IEx but break any other jquery in the entire page....

I'm working with a large (and unweildy) ASP.NET application, and there is a lot of jQuery code that uses selectors like this:
[name=_aspnetControl$_withASubControl] And unfortunately, some selectors that also look like this:
[name^=_someAspNetControl$_radioButtonList].
In other words, the effort to remove the $ from the attribute selectors would be monumental. If it is possible to escape the $ symbols, I can do that easily enough, but unfortunately the situation right now means that I can't upgrade to jQuery 1.5.

I'll trying to tell the difference between the following three cases:
<img alt="text string" />
<img alt="" />
<img />
I can do this in Firefox with the following code, where elem is the
HTMLElement representing each image, but IE doesn't seem to
differentiate between empty string and undefined.
var alt = elem.getAttribute('alt');
alt = (alt) ? alt : ((alt===null) ? 'really_null' : "");
The desired output from running this code on the 3 tags above is:
text string
really_null
It seems like this should be really easy...but I'm having a really
difficult time trying to figure out what's going on...

I am trying to understand somecode. I don't think I am understanding everything correctly. Can someone confirm or add to my understanding?
Here is the code, below is my explanation:
- CODE 1 - is saying if the the class subnav_dd is called on an anchor tag on a li, then make the function in the if statement "live". (Live in a sense binds the function to the condition, but unlike bind it allows the condition to be used more then once. ) So if the class subnav_dd is the parent, and has a class of .dis then prevent anything below it from firing. CSS - If code 1 is true, then I will only get the first li to fire, the remaining ones will not.
- CODE 2 - This one is a little tricky. Function ToggleOptions takes 3 variables (target, array, state). The condition is if the div subnav + target have siblings, then check to see how many siblings are there. Put the amount of siblings into an array, then check the state of each sibling. I don't completely the rest of it.
I think if the div subnav is called and something is found in the array then the class dis is either added or removed. Then what? I don't understand why I still need the else that adds a class to #subnav_ +.target
