I'm trying to create a function to show a custom message as a tooltip when a user hovers over a table row.
My tr tag looks like this
The javascript function looks like this:
jQuery seems to be loaded correctly, as I get the alert. I don't get the tooltip, however.
What I'm trying to do, in case this is totally retarded and impossible to see, is to hover a tooltip over the clicked row instead of passing it in as a variable.

I am attempting to create an ASP.NET Custom Validator javascript for a
checkboxlist control. My goal is to limit the total number of
selections to be 1 - 5 at most. My problem is that I get a null
reference when I attempt to retrieve an object for an individual list
item, which of course results in an "object required" error message....

A client has a 1440 wide flash move in .swf format that serves as in intro to the site. They want the flash movie centered on the screen even if the resolution is lower, at 1024 or whatever. At this point my idea is to wrap the flash object in a div and center that div using javascript so that it centers no matter the screen width, but I don't know exactly how to do this.

In this program my basic intention is that as soon as the page loads, an alertbox will be called displaying the ALT value of image.
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC
This is my test page.
It doesn't work. When i used plain javascript alert function in body tag with onload event, it worked well.
This (code) implementation just shows the text in strong tag and the image. There is no messagebox displaying the alt message. Please tell me where I'm wrong. I've already downloaded the jQuery library and it lies in the same folder as this code.

I have called a function in onchange event of a dropdownlist.What happens in the onchange function is that if the value for dropdown has already been entered once, then an alert message will be shown. The problem I have is, if the value has been already entered, when I try to change the value in dropdown, dropdownlist gets displayed (expands) and an alert message gets displayed. When I click "OK" of alertbox first the dropdown gets back to it original form and only on the next click alert box goes. What I need is everything should happen in a single click itself.

So I created a custom rule following numerous examples out on the web for a dynamic text input, but for some reason it seems to be letting spaces through even though my regexp tests out ok to not match when the value is any combination of spaces...
$.validator.addMethod("noSpace", function(value, element){
return this.optional(element) || /^[a-z0-9][a-z0-9_ ]{0,70}$/i.test(value);
}, "Please enter a name starting with either a letter or a digit.");
$('#form').validate({
rules: {
[Code]...
The odd thing is, it will work if you type in a space followed by a character, but if you type in one space, or one space followed by x number of spaces, it just lets it through like it's valid. But yet when I look at the demos and examples that I pulled this from, they never let those scenarios go through.

I'm trying to create a custom meta box on Wordpress with multiple text fields.The idea is that there is initially one text box, then you can click the button 'Add New' and a another text box is added. This needs to be via Ajax; using Javascript doesn't physically create the HTML and I have to use a PHP foreach loop to get all of the values from and combine them into an array in order to be saved.
Currently via PHP I've created a foreach loop that creates a text box for each value from the custom field (etc, 3 text boxes). I want to create a button that when clicked, it will add another blank text box as part of this foreach loop. When the post is saved, it will get the values from the 4 text boxes and save them back into the array.

This here is a script that I've used in a few different sites, namely art/graphic/image-related sites. It's designed to rotate through banner ads, images, text, or anything else. I've tried to make it as easy to use as possible, so let me know what you think. Efficiency and functionality improvement suggestions are always welcome. =)
Documentation is available (http://www.skyzyx.com/scripts/messagecenter.php), and you can download the script with a demo page at the bottom of this post.
One thing that I built-in is a user's ability to stop the content from rotating (assuming the web designer makes the function available on his/her website), which helps to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines about "no or uncontrollable screen flickering".

v5.1 - Added Next() and Previous(). Also added "aliases" for many
functions to help a coder's logical naming style. Changed Resume()
into an alias for Start(). Streamlined and optimized code for efficiency.
v5.0 - Completely rewrote this script from the ground-up to be object-
oriented in nature. Implemented Algorithm's OO Timeouts. Functions
include addMessage(), start(), pause(), resume(), and clear().

I don't know how hard this is / isn't to do, but I wondered if it is possible to use Javascript / jQuery (I have the library included on the page I need to edit) to display a message below a text input field if the field is populated.
The reason I need it is that if the user fills the field in, I would like to add an instruction message underneath the field. If the field remains empty, I don't want the text to display.

The code below is basically the code from the jquery user interface demo, slightly modified. can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? if your kind enough to take a look at my problem make sure you change the src's where the JQuery files are!
Code:

I'm using the jquery in place editor, and I need to get the value of a custom attribute in order to send it with the form. The jquery I have is as folder... (the bit I'm having trouble with is highlighted)
$(".edit").editInPlace({
url: "./server.php",
params: "folder=" + $(this).attr('folder')
//show_buttons: true
//$('.edit').attr('folder')
});
And the html is as follows:
<span class="edit" folder="folderName">text to edit</span>
As you can see, I need to get jquery to get the attribute 'folder' value, in this case the value returned would be 'folderName'.
