Out of pure curiosity: Assuming tabulated data in HTML is being generated by a PHP script, would it be better to alternate each row's background color with PHP or rely on JS to do it? One is run client-side and the other server-side so my guess you have to take the whole web app as a whole and see which side should be spared the additional workload. Is it situational or is there an absolute rule? In a vacuum, I guess you could argue PHP would be better since it cannot be turned off in the way JS can (unless plugins like NoScript can block PHP as well), but I don't have enough experience with either to be sure.
View 7 Replies View RelatedHow can i create an alternating banner image using javascript with each image has its own url target. and uses cookie to display.
View 2 Replies View Relatedso I have this script that alternates my CSS stylesheets and it's working great. The thing is, there was a cookie coding that was included but it doesn't work. Basically what I want to do is that the browser remembers which stylesheet the user had chosen and keep it the same for all pages, for a determined period of time.
Here's my code:

I read this article: [URL]...I want to Combine this example with the example given in Part 1 to give this table of revenues alternating row colors!
Here are my combining codes: It is quite clear there must be something with them because I can't see the expected result after running. Help me find that mistake.
[Code]...
Alert("Please choose your favoriate");
Is there any way I can customize the alert message box and text?
I'm using a javascript to alternate table rows and it works fine by table id, and on the first loop. This is all inside a conditional, in which the table tag is repeated.
On the second and subsequent loops, the alternating row color fails because there can only be one unique id call to a page. Right?
What's the script that will allow unlimited reiterations of tables with alternating row colors, using class?
This here is a script that I've used in a few different sites, namely art/graphic/image-related sites. It's designed to rotate through banner ads, images, text, or anything else. I've tried to make it as easy to use as possible, so let me know what you think. Efficiency and functionality improvement suggestions are always welcome. =)
Documentation is available (http://www.skyzyx.com/scripts/messagecenter.php), and you can download the script with a demo page at the bottom of this post.
One thing that I built-in is a user's ability to stop the content from rotating (assuming the web designer makes the function available on his/her website), which helps to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines about "no or uncontrollable screen flickering".

v5.1 - Added Next() and Previous(). Also added "aliases" for many
functions to help a coder's logical naming style. Changed Resume()
into an alias for Start(). Streamlined and optimized code for efficiency.
v5.0 - Completely rewrote this script from the ground-up to be object-
oriented in nature. Implemented Algorithm's OO Timeouts. Functions
include addMessage(), start(), pause(), resume(), and clear().

I am new to JavaScript and have been plugging away at it trying build a menu for site I am developing. My colleague has suggested I use Flash, which I could, but I think it is unnecessary and JavaScript is ideal for this use.
I have been building a menu that has a sub menu that appears below all of the main menu items. I have got this working and will include the code I used to do this below.
Now I want to change the button image so that it is visible which sub-menu the items that appear below belong to. Code:
which was very helpful and with some playing around I can now get my existing menu to complete part of my task. But I have 4 menu items and therefore need to use a "var" command to allow me to define different button images for different menus. Code:
I have the, how can I let the alert box become wider and the text message become big.
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function() {
alert('Please dosomethin before.');
});
</script>
I don't know how hard this is / isn't to do, but I wondered if it is possible to use Javascript / jQuery (I have the library included on the page I need to edit) to display a message below a text input field if the field is populated.
The reason I need it is that if the user fills the field in, I would like to add an instruction message underneath the field. If the field remains empty, I don't want the text to display.
I have an oscommerce web site with a cart in the header which shows/hides the content when you hover over it. What I'm trying to do is alternate the row color of the part that drops down when items have been added to the cart but I'm just not getting it right no matter what I try.
Code JavaScript:
$(function(){ // wait for the document to load
var globals = {
session_id:session_id,
cart_fetch_file:"cart_fetch.php?" + session_id ,
cart_fetch: false,
loading_image: '<center><img src="images/assets/loading.gif" align="middle" vspace="8" alt=""></center>',
cart_image_width: image_width,
cart_image_height: image_height,
cart_opacity: 1,
box_status: false,

I am new to Jquery and am having trouble. I want a button on a modal form to open up another modal form but for some reason it isn't happening. The code below is basically the code from the jquery user interface demo, slightly modified. can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? if your kind enough to take a look at my problem make sure you change the src's where the JQuery files are!
Code:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

I have a page that generates content in a <tbody></tbody> dynamically.
The thing is if there is about 167 or so records it takes some time to render them so I put a tag like:
<div id="str_status"> </div>
and in my js I have
function blah()
{
document.getElementById("srt_status").innerHTML = "rendering";
..
..
..some code here that takes a bit of time
..
..
document.getElementById("srt_status").innerHTML = "";
}
Problem is I never see the "rendering" ..... Looks like it renders all at once and is not updating as the steps occur.
I am using w2k, IE6. Why does the error message popup for a second then

I wanna show a progress bar with message when my php script is working in background to the user who has submitted the form.
my output is inside a table, and it would show the progress bar with message till the complete table is loaded.
How can I do this?
Im trying to add a pop up message when you hit a certain button. If this is a java script can someone please point me or tell me how they work.

{
document.form1.outputstate.value="this is a number";
}

I'm trying to doing something really simple but I can't seem to make it work. I'm trying have the textarea display a certain message depending on if the first input box says a certain word or number. So like in the code, if the user types "55" or "never" in the first box, then the second box should say a certain message. Then I used the else statement so that if "55" or "never" is not entered, then the second box says nothing. If you can spot my error or suggest a different way of going about writing the code
