I have a lightbox script, that I want to attach to an event to recall it based on values changed.Could you tell me why this works:
$("a[rel^='prettyPhoto']").prettyPhoto();
Opposed to this:
$("a[rel^='prettyPhoto']").click(function(){$(this).prettyPhoto();});
Or this:
$("a[rel^='prettyPhoto']").click(function(){$("a[rel^='prettyPhoto']").prettyPhoto();});

I am trying to use the jquery validation plugin with a modal form. When I click the 'Make a booking' button shown below there is no response. I guess there's something about the dom I am missing, which tends to be the case quite often.
$('body').click(function(event) {
if ($(event.target).is('a.add')) {
event.preventDefault();
$( '#dialog-add' )
.dialog( 'open' );
}});
$( "#dialog-add" ).dialog({
autoOpen: false,
height: 340,
width: 400, .....
draggable: false,
position: "center",
resizable: false,
modal: true,
buttons: {
"Make a booking": function() {
$('#addbooking').validate({
submitHandler: function(form) {
//ajax
});
$( this ).dialog( "close" );
}});},
Cancel: function() {
$( this ).dialog( "close" );
}},
close: function() {
}});

I have a problem with the latest version of the jQuery Form Plugin (2.80). To be more precise, I guess I am doing something wrong, and with an older version (2.67) somehow it didn't matter.With the old version, the file was uploaded without problems. Now Firefox opens a new Tab on clicking the submit button and nothing is done. Chrome doesn't open a new tab, but also nothing happens. In Wireshark I can see that there is no file attached in the POST message with the older version, the file was sent.My first guess was that my file handling on the server side is erroneous - but on the other hand, when there is no file attached, what should I handle there?

I have a menu system that is structured in <ul>/<li> fashion. Code below. How do I attach JS functions to any single item? My functions will be going out and grabbing the static xml and applying some filtering/selections on it, then passing the result to a datagrid. Writing the function is not hard (standard JS), but how do I attach it to a <li> type of menu item?? Each high-level menu item (such as Small Arms, Bombs) will be performing selections on completely separate xml

I have a piece of javascript which does not work as intended. The code is:
var v = document.getElementById('ReportViewer1');
if (v) { v.ClientController.CustomOnReportLoaded = endPoll;
}
The endPoll event handler should be added to the list of event handlers for CustomOnReportLoaded. In the code about, it removes all other event handlers and just adds itself. Looking through JQuery i found:
$('#foo').bind('click', function() {
alert($(this).text());
});
this will add the new event handler to the collection of event handlers already attached to the click event.how do I select the ClientController through JQuery's selectors?

I've got an ASP.net repeater which has an unknown number of rows, that I'm passing as a variable into the client-side code. Each repeater item has two dropdowns in it, one of which I need to attach to a jQuery event to create a cascading dropdown. I've put the change(function() { into a for..next loop, along with the target control. It's not pretty, but it seems logical. Problem I have is whenever the function is called, the ID of the target control is the max value of the loop + 1. Why is my loop variable behaving like a reference type instead of a value type? Why is it even in scope outside the loop? Alternatively, is there a better way to do this? The code:
var rows = 4; // this is populated from the server code
for (iLoop = 0; iLoop<rows; iLoop++) {
$('#ctl00_repCBSkills_ctl0'+iLoop+'_ddlSkillCategory_ID').change
(function() {

I've been reading forum posts (not just on this site) and unsuccessfully trying to apply the examples to what I'm doing for hours now. Can anyone help me do this correctly?
I need the browser window's resize event to trigger resizes on different objects on my page. The objects are added dynamically, so I can't just have one function to set it all up at the beginning, although so far that's the only way I know how to do it. I understand that using this method (below), that there can be only one such statement, but I need to add new functions to the resize event as I add new items to my page.
window.onresize = function(event) {
$('#main-tab-bar').tabs('resize'); //resize something
$('.aportal').portal('resize'); //resize something else
}
What is a cross-browser method for attaching multiple functions (like the two above) to the browser window resize event, where they aren't both done at the same time (like above)?

I was reading various articles on browser detection with javascript and I know it can be unreliable and unprofessional at times, but I was just playing it to see if I could get something working. What I wanted to do was attach a stylesheet if the browser in safari.
With what I remember from the articles I read, isn't there a function that is navigator.appName(); ? I have written it in sorta of pseudo-code below:
Essentially,
if(browserName=="safari"){
<link type="text/stylesheet" href="safariStyling.css"/>
}else{
<link type="text/stylesheet" href="defaultStyling.css"/>
}
I know that there is a .html() jQuery function where I can write html in the head of the document like so, head.html (HTML GOES HERE); but I have heard and form experience that mixing javascript and jQuery function can be dangerous. I would detect if the browser is safari and then link a stylesheet if true?

If a created element:
var newEl = document.createElement("input")
newEl.type = "button"
newEl.value = "I'm a button"
newEl.onclick = function(){..blah..}
is then cloned (http://www.mozilla.org/docs/dom/domref/dom_el_ref35.html#1028396) and inserted into several places in a page:
for(var i=0;i<object.childNodes.length;i++) {
var thisKid = object.childNodes[i]
if(thisKid.tagName=="DIV")
thisKid.insertBefore(newEl.cloneNode(false|true),thisKid.childNodes[0])
}
Will the onclick be cloned as well? I'm havening trouble getting it to fire and am unsure as to what I'm doing wrong.

I need clarification on this particular idea. I believe the elements are not yet loaded into memory/accessible during the first firing of a script in the head tag, so this would cause me an error (or at least it has):
document.getElementById('cText').onkeyup = function addBlurb(e)
So in order to solve this I had to put it inside the onload method of the window. However it seems as if I am missing something here. Any words? Do I have to attach events inside the onload? Are there things I should know relative to this in regards to jQuery (for future reference).

I have a disabled submit button sitting in the fieldset of a form. What I'd like to do is attach a click event to this button, but from what I understand this can't be done since you can't attach events to disabled elements.
Is it possible to attach it to the fieldset? I'm not completely familiar with event bubbling but maybe it's possible to capture the element clicked?

I need to attach a javascript function I wrote to the onChange event of
a <select> tag. However, I'm using a 3rd party tool that creates the
html files - it only lets me add bits of html to it, I can't touch the
elements it produces, so I can't just add an onChange="myfunction"
attribute to that <select> tag. I can't change the onload attribute of
the <body> tag.
How can I run code that attached my function to that event?

Is it possible to have an icon next to a hyperlink to a specific document, that when clicked would fire up Outlook's send mail window and automatically add that document as an attachment?? And if so, how?
There will be plenty of these on each page of my site, so the code would have to be small, preferably one line. Or, one script and all the docs could call that.
