JQuery :: Appending Content Based On Image 'src' Attribute?
Sep 8, 2011
I am running a random image script on my 404 page; each time the page is loaded, a random image will be shown: http://philrules.com/blarg (it's the main image on the page, not the little image in the top-right corner)I'm not new to jQuery, but I usually don't write my own scripts.What I'm trying to do is add text to the paragraph which hold the image that will change depending on the image that is shown. However, since each image is loaded into the same imgcontainer (class="shuffle"), I am trying to change the text based on the src attribute.After searching for solutions, I had pieced together this poop-stain of a function which, unsurprisingly, doesn't work:
$(function(){
if ("img.shuffle[src=http://philrules.com/new_images/404-04.gif]") {
$("p").append("<b>Hello, world</b>");

I can load content and update a <div> using the following code:
var auto_refresh = setInterval(
function()
{
$('#loaddiv').fadeOut('slow').load('mypage.html').fadeIn("slow");
}, 5000);
<div id="loaddiv"></div>
However what I would like to do is load the html into a variable and then append it to the <div>. Looking through the forums I see people have suggested using get instead of load. However when I use $.get there is nothing in the responseText or responseXML.
So how can I load my html into a variable, and then append the contents of the variable to my div?

I've got the following script to trace as far as defining the p variable, but then the script apperas to choke. I'm thinking my insertBefore logic is incorrect and wondered if someone can help me out.I'm basically trying to attach an icon inside the a tags within the 'content' container, in front of the a tag text to achieve something like
<a href=""><img src="icon.gif">Text</a> where as the moment the document just has <a href="">Text</a>
Code:
function createElement(parent, target){
var c = document.createElement('img');
c.src = 'icon.gif';

Please let me know if there is a better way of doing it, I couldn't find anything.

I'm pretty green to jQuery. I have a .load() calling in some content that has some links within it. After that content is loaded, am I able to change the attributes of those links? This is how I'm loading in the content:
$(".maincontent").load(pages[0] + '?' + tsTimeStamp + ' .maincontent');
Which contains:
<a class="table_button0" href="#"></a>
<a class="table_button1" href="#"></a>

I am trying to refresh an image on the page but it is not happening. I have a page with images and I need to update those images as required. To update an image I upload the image on a lightbox and then close the lightbox. The image on the page should update itself. Now, I tried $('#imageid').attr('src', newimage). I want to make a special mention here that the name of both the old and new images are same. And I feel this is the problem. If I hard code any other image it does appear as soon as the lightbox closes. But, when I try to refresh the image by putting the same image name for the 'src' attribute then nothing happens.

and I want to insert a new row for Sid the Snake, how do I find the right row so that when I insert, the rows will still be in alphabetical order? In other words, Sid should be inserted after Rick the Rabbit and before Vernon the Vole, as "s" comes after "r" and before "v"
I've been messing about with this, but I'm getting myself confused. I'm sure there's an easy way, given the power of jQuery's selectors, but I haven't worked it out yet.

I am a noob when its comes to Javascript. I used two different coda like sliders for two of my sites, one of them expands vertically based on the content, the other does not. This is the site I created that will demonstrate the effect I am going for. It is a more robust coda script [URL] This is the site I am creating that DOES NOT expand vertically as I would like. I would like it to behave the same as the site above. (had to use a smaller script to function in wordpress CMS) [URL]

Any way to change row colors of table based on content.
For example:
<span style="font-family: courier new,monospace;">+-----|-----------------------+</span><br style="font-family: courier new,monospace;">
<span style="font-family: courier new,monospace;">|acess| COSTUMER |</span><br style="font-family: courier new,monospace;"><span style="font-family: courier new,monospace;">|-----------------------------|</span><br style="font-family: courier new,monospace;">
<span style="font-family: courier new,monospace;">| 1 | joseph |</span>
<span style="font-family: courier new,monospace;">| 2 | mary |
</span><span style="font-family: courier new,monospace;">| 3 | john |
</span><span style="font-family: courier new,monospace;">| 4 | joseph |
</span><span style="font-family: courier new,monospace;">| 5 | joseph |
</span><span style="font-family: courier new,monospace;">| 6 | guile |
</span><span style="font-family: courier new,monospace;">| 7 | mary |
</span><span style="font-family: courier new,monospace;">| 8 | craig |
+-----------------------------+<br style="font-family: courier new,monospace;">
</span><span style="font-family: courier new,monospace;"></span>
in this table, the name Joseph and Mary are repeated, so, every "joseph" or "mary" row must have the same color (picked randomly or not). so as every "craig", "guile" or "john" row.
I don't want to use css class names based on the name of the "costumers" because I don't know how many costumers are and how many times they appear or repeat.

I recently had a request from a client and I'm not entirely sure this is possible. I'll try to explain it the best I can, as I can't share the development files yet...
We have a page with an image map of the United States. If anyone clicks on a state, it will bring them to a new
page. This new page contains a table that has named anchors on it, each row being a different state.
So, for example, if someone clicks on South Carolina on the map page, they will be brought here[code]...
The #sc anchor will scroll the new page down to the row in the table about South Carolina.
Is there any way to highlight the table row that the person is looking for? For example, if they click on South Carolina, they will be brought to this new page and the South Carolina row in the table would be highlighted.

To synchronize the vertical scroll of the following "left" and "right" divs only when the beginning and end of each "blahN " div is reached inside the left div. Both divs have a finite height, which basically insures that the scroll bar will be present. The left div outputs text-based content from various database procedures while the right div outputs images corresponding to the text. The text is nothing more than pages from the website and as you can see inside the left div, each is encapsulated within a subsequent div with an incremental class (i.e.- "blah1", "blah2", and so forth.) When one scrolls through each "blah" content inside of the left div, I would like the right div to output the image that corresponds to the text (again, this data comes from the website through previous transactions.) Here's an example: John Doe comes to the website and starts reading the various pages listed inside the left div.
There might be 2 pages loaded inside the left div, or, there might be 20, but in any event, when he loads the entire page containing all this, the first page will be displayed along with the first pages' image. When he scrolls past this first entry (page) inside the left div, the corresponding image related to it inside the MySQL database is then output as well over in the right div and so on with every other "blahN " piece of content. Right now, the jQuery I'm using has synchronized both divs to scroll at the same time, regardless of specific waypoints that might be reached per-scrolling.
Here's the basic markup I'm using right now:
<div class="left">
<?php
foreach($obj->field_page_objs as $k1=>$v1){
[code]....
few other websites and the responsiveness has been minimal-to-nonexistent. I'm sure this is because of both how I've explained the problem combined with the overall difficulty (or niche-ness) it introduces. In any event, I apologize beforehand if this carries over into this website.

i have found a possible bug in 1.4 but it's only in Internet Explorer 7 & 8.The following code does not work and completely ruins every peice of jquery on the page (that means everything inside $(document).ready and anyting else...
$("<div/>",{
id: 'tooltip-'+rand,
class: 'dock-tooltip',
[code]....
I cant see any syntax errors - i pulled the example from the 1.4 site. There is no trailing commas in the object notation and i really cant see any reason it would work in firefox and not IEx and more to the point not only not work in IEx but break any other jquery in the entire page....

I'm working with a large (and unweildy) ASP.NET application, and there is a lot of jQuery code that uses selectors like this:
[name=_aspnetControl$_withASubControl] And unfortunately, some selectors that also look like this:
[name^=_someAspNetControl$_radioButtonList].
In other words, the effort to remove the $ from the attribute selectors would be monumental. If it is possible to escape the $ symbols, I can do that easily enough, but unfortunately the situation right now means that I can't upgrade to jQuery 1.5.

I am trying to set the attribute for an image element.
If i run the following:
Code:
var imgMain = document.getElementById('<%=defaultImage.ClientID%>');
imgMain.setAttribute("data-zoomsrc", "tttt"); //not outputting
imgMain.src = url; //works
The url section works fine. If i check the source code, the attribute data-zoomsrc is never displayed. However, if i write it out in the javascript, i get the value i am after:
Code:
document.write(imgMain.getAttribute("data-zoomsrc"));
document.end
It's almost as though it's just never written to the browser.

I'm currently interested in displaying a quick line or two of copy if a visiter's IP address falls between a certain IP range. Do any of you have any resources or ideas of how I can go about it?
I'd like to use JS (maybe jQuery?) for this. I'd imagine I can use JS to detect the IP then use an IF statement to display said content.
