I'm busy making a project which needs to be ran locally. It has to work on Firefox only.
I've ran into the problem I can't load local XML files from another directory then the html file is located.
When I try loading XML trough an ajax request with the url "content.xml" everything works fine. As soon as I want the XML to be loaded from another folder, e.g. "../../../content.xml" it doesnt enter my success function.
Here is what I'm trying to do but the problem is "source.html" is not on a server somewhere. I am running everything locally. $('#container').load(source.html #sourceContent) Is there a way to do this exact thing but with a local file?
I have set of html pages that are installed locally on machine. I want to make ajax call to local files. In Firefox everything works fine. IE is able to load html pages through ajax call but not able to load xml document.
Chrome doesn't support ajax call locally...and I don't care about it. I need it to work on IE & firefox.

Now I would like to have only certain elements however from this side, like DIV, SPAN etc. How can I make with the AJAX Request return in such a way best, which I can select these elements thereby? I've spent 30 minutes or so googling to find the answer to this question, and I haven't found it. I'd like to use JavaScript to get the contents of a URL on the same domain (locally). For that matter it will be within the same directory on the domain.I was hoping there'd be a simple "getURL" function that would assign the contents of a URL request to a variable. One that isn't terribly platform specific, either. Is there such a thing?I'm creating a script that will perform 3 different searches at my website, and place the results in 3 columns for easy comparison. It's somewhat of a metasearch, extracting similar items from 3 different websites. The local CGI script on my website (the one I'm hoping to call using Javascript) makes the query to the external websites. The problem is that it can take sometimes 5 to 10 seconds to finish all of this, where one site in particular can be fairly slow.
So rather than make the visitor wait 5 to 10 seconds to see anything at all, I thought a good solution would be to have the CGI script display a page quickly, showing that site #1 is being searched (and displaying results once it's finished), then site #2, then site #3. Ideally the results from site #1 would have JS that would trigger the search for site #2, and so on.I've done this before using frames, but I was hoping to avoid having to use frames.I'm not a JS expert, but I know how to use createTextNode to insert the contents of variable within the document.The only thing I need to know how to do is assign the contents of a URL request to a variable.
If I switch the w3schools' file with the same local file, it will not work with firefox.Does anybody know why the local file is not displayed correctly?
I have a php page which returns a table representing a query sent to a MySQL database. So far it has worked in every case except now that I'm trying to use it to call a stored procedure, in which case the readystate is staying at 1 and never completing.
I have logged the results of the php file both in an error log and looked at the response from the request using firebug, both of which show a correct result.
Why isn't this returning properly?

I have a .js file, we want to make it to load a html file right next to it, both files are on client system. I couldn't find any such examples and some posts talked about JavaScript security issues, I wonder if it is related to what I want.
Someone said .js file is not really JaveScript file, though Microsoft named it 'JavaScript'.
note that I am trying to "call" .html file from the .js file, not embed html code in .js.

I'm having an issue getting jQuery to load from a local file system. This works fine when served from my server via http. However, I want to load this entire site (including all linked js/css files) from a local filesystem for offline usage. When I move the project to a local filesystem, the browser throws a bunch of errors from the secondary scripts (like jquery-ui) which indicate that the main jQuery lib isn't loading (ie.ReferenceError: Can't find variable: $). This behavior is consistent across IE7/FF3/Safari4Mac.

The problem with this is the encoding of the localParam1 and localParam2 sometimes breaks the normal & delimeters. An even more problem is I sometimes haveupwards of 25+ local variables that I need to submit. These inline +s makes it feel, and look, like one huge hack - not to mention the encoding. One last restriction: I cannot use any jquery plugins due to the company's policy. So, I'm looking for something small and light as a solution - not a plug-in. Isn't there an easy way to do this? ONe thought I had was to create a new <form> on the page, and insert the variables as new <input /> fields - and then finally submit the entire form. Again, a big hack + css
i am making a request using Ajax (JQuery) and it keeps repeating the request, it almost seems like it is inside a loop even though it is not inside a loop.
XP IE6 virtual PC for test, latest version of jquery the browser hangs after an ajax request. $.get("/myurl", {random: $.random()}, mycallback); I read that IE6 hangs for some cache searching stuff, that is why I added a randomstring with my $.random() but keeps hanging the browser.

I'm writing a little application with JSF 2.0 + jQuery. My page contains a simple input form, a submit button and a div containing one div for each string that the user type in the input text field. i'm using JSF 2.0 ajax to send the request to the server and rerendering only the div-container, with the updated content. Initially the div contains a single div with a text example for the user. Every div inserted by the user has the style-class "user", so with jquery I manipulate all off them through a simple function.

But i've encountered this problem when I started using ajax: my jquery function doesn't work on the new content, so I started trying to resolve the problem with live() method as suggested in the FAQ and on several posts

This code doesn't work at all after the submit event, so for test purpose only i've changed the event to click and ,using the event generated from the mouse click, it's working.
But obviously i need to apply my jquery function right after the ajax request and without the user's partecipation.

I'm trying to update my page with either a yes or a no, I'm using Ajax for the request to the server. The request works perfectly, however when I try to update the DOM with the server response using $(this).text(response.waiting); and $(this).html(response.waiting);.
I've tried alert(response.waiting); and returns a valid response. So, the problem probably stems from the DOM.
